James Wong quits the Observer

James was rather vocal on Twitter about Catherine Bennett’s piece on misogyny in the Labour Party and complained to The Observer about her - no doubt she was being “transphobic” because … reasons.

Poor James didn’t get the LOJ misogyny free pass and instead got reprimanded about his Twittering so has quit.

Oh dear, what a shame, never mind.

Clymene · 25/02/2023 10:03

Haha. Couldn't have happened to a nicer wee misogynist.

RoyalCorgi · 25/02/2023 10:07

I bet they're devastated at the Observer to lose a writer of his calibre. Er, who?

My thoughts exactly!

Don't know him. And now.....I never will 😭

Helleofabore · 25/02/2023 10:18

Well I am sure he will be missed! Who was he again?

WarningToTheCurious · 25/02/2023 10:23

Pompous plant guru.

Who loves the sound of their own voice!

Pootleplum · 25/02/2023 10:29

Very good. james if you're reading - don't tell women what they can and cannot say about misogyny and don't publicly trash your female colleagues because they dont subscribe to your ideology.

nauticant · 25/02/2023 10:40

Would you like some whining with your morning coffee?

It's not going how he wanted it to and there are some harsh burns in the replies.

GCAcademic · 25/02/2023 10:42

I have no idea who he is, and I read the Observer. Obviously he’s quite the non-entity.

CallMeVal · 25/02/2023 10:45

Never heard of him and won’t be seeking him out now, that’s for sure!

Men who tell women what they can and can’t say about misogyny can DO ONE.

LizzieSiddal · 25/02/2023 10:45

We can only hope LOJ decides to emulate his stance. I mean, standing by your “principles” really is the right thing to do Owen.

MenopausalMe · 25/02/2023 10:51

He’s another gay man who went all in for trans male rights a few years ago and is utterly convinced of his own righteousness. Shame because he’s interesting when he’s talking about plants and gardening. On other topics he can be provocative but tends to research his facts and is not hateful, sadly on this topic he is just filled with righteous indignation on behalf of his fellow males.

the way he is on male rights.

JacquelinePot · 25/02/2023 10:54

I hadn't heard of him until last week, and the hubbub about gardens being racist, or summink.

My favourite response on the thread: Is there a charity to which we can donate to help you get over yourself?

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 25/02/2023 10:58

Maybe the Guardian will give him a job.

DismantledKing · 25/02/2023 10:58

Does Pink News need a botanist? I can’t think of anywhere else that’s have him

MorrisZapp · 25/02/2023 10:59

This is the guy who said herbs were racist

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 25/02/2023 11:02

He's very good on plants and gardens, well informed and writes about plants that other garden writers (in the newspapers) don't cover. I've also enjoyed his tweets about Singaporean planting and gardens - and don't actually doubt him at all about the racism he has encountered in the garden world (have seen some very iffy tweets directed at him). He was the only thing I regretted when I had to stop buying the Observer (couldn't afford a paper every day).

So this is disappointing. Misogyny is a toxic and addictive drug - though I'm surprised he's enthusiastic about such a homophobic belief system.

Gender identity ideology will be providing jobs for true believers for the foreseeable:

I'm afraid James blocked me about two years ago. I was a fan so was quite shocked. I didn't realise then how much he hates women.

Agree he has had some obvious racism directed at him.

He’ll need to see the homophobic side to back away but its going to be difficult as he sees this as a simple issue

Have no idea if this link will show the tweet or just appear as a link:

twitter.com/francesweetman/status/1629399198863958018?s=20

The tweet says:

"And is the institutionalised transphobia here in the room with us?"

Florissant · 25/02/2023 12:15

And nothing of value was lost. So long, Wong.
