If he's only picking cases belonging to fashion designers, then it seems that he's put some time into planning the thefts. That's more serious than an opportunistic one off theft.

Judging by the previous cases, Brinton chooses his victims carefully - going, it seems, on the style and price of their luggage.

BabyStopCryin · 04/06/2023 09:40

He could buy items, he could have them made for him (as the pieces he wears have been altered). I can only assume there is added excitement in stealing the cases.

The fashion designer was only one of the women Brinton stole from. There's no way to know what someone does for a living through their luggage.

Rather, as @Chersfrozenface noted, Brinton seems to go for expensive luggage, correctly guessing that the cases will contain expensive clothing and accessories.

Chersfrozenface · 04/06/2023 10:17

I'm sure it seemed like a win-win to Brinton. Acquiring high-end items without the expense of paying for them and the thrill of transgression in stealing clothing owned and worn by women.

nauticant · 04/06/2023 12:06

... and then the thrill of wearing the clothes in public meaning that everyone around him is pulled unwittingly into his activities.

There's nothing gender diverse about creepy men stealing women's clothes. It's rather typical male-pattern sexually-motivated criminal behaviour. He's a Benny Hill character, not the Che Guevara of diversity. Maybe his non-binary-ness made him too ladylike to clamber over a garden fence in the middle of the night so he went for the more brazen airport carousel option? Who knows?

There is one significant difference between clothes stolen from a washing line or shop and clothes stolen in a suitcase at an airport.

Washing line or shop - definitely clean or unworn.

Suitcase clothes - not definitely clean or unworn.

Not necessarily: it depends on if the person is arriving and departing. Very few people pack dirty clothing when they are leaving on holiday.

@BaseDrops said "not necessarily". I.e. might be or might not. Even bolded the not. In any case, it's clear this is a fetishistic behaviour and not just about possessing clothes he could have bought. Not that this would necessarily make it okay. But the fetish aspect adds an additional layer of skeeziness.

Note to self - don't replace tatty old suitcases.

He could have been looking at spying on women as they checked in their baggage. He could have seen who checked in a distinctive case. Say they had the same destination, you can view on the screens at arrival which flight's baggage would be on which belt. He could just have grabbed it first that way and sped away with his ill gotten gains.

Or maybe he just did pot luck sometimes (as he was a serial airport thief) and nicked something he fancied in order to mix it up. Or for a different thrill.

There really some horrible, pervy creeps out there!

He must have loads of suitcases containing clothes he's not interested in.

Unless Brinton is very clued up on luggage brands. Which isn't impossible - hours spent reading women's magazines would no doubt provide a wealth of information .

I've just found a US brand which retails a pair of distinctive cases (and not huge ones either) for nearly a thousand bucks. The clothes in those wouldn't come from Walmart.

Go for colours women would be more likely to pick - job's a good 'un.

BabyStopCryin · 05/06/2023 13:23

My mum used to travel with fancy expensive luggage- I’m not sure he’d appreciate her twin set and pearls look. My bags would possibly contain items closer to his style but my luggage is really bashed up.

Oh yeah he probably had a load of stuff he didn’t like, but there’s a lot of stuff he could’ve done with the extras- donate it, sell it, gift it to friends.

There’s been more than 1 serial killer, for example, who gave their wives, girlfriends or female friends items of jewellery they’d stolen from the bodies of victims. It gave them a thrill to see their families unknowingly wearing items belonging to the women they’d killed. I’m of course not saying that Brinton is a serial killer but it’s possible that he’d get a similar kick out of seeing other people wear the clothes or jewellery he’d stolen as he had from wearing it and being photographed.

Florissant · 05/06/2023 20:59

Brinton is too much of a narcissist to want to share. He's been photographed happily wearing stolen clothing and that says everything I need to know about his fetish.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 05/06/2023 23:58

I wonder if he's one of those people who elbow their way off the plane first, in this case to get to the baggage reclaim before his victims.

Rather risky if the person you're stealing from is also in a hurry. Or if the baggage is slightly delayed coming off the plane. Did he ever got caught and fake an apology for his 'genuine mistake'?!

Brinton doesn't need to do that - other passengers part like Red Sea waves to let Brinton off the plane first.
