Why do you have to be a Scot to care about Scotland?

I'm not ashamed to be a unionist.

LexMitior · 15/02/2023 19:03

Good bloody riddance. She has ruined a lot of what has made Scotland such a remarkable country.

It was a NYTimes notification as well - their second paragraph mentions the rapist and the gender ID as being a factor.

Well done, vipers. May I also note that despite doing the exact same as Sturgeon, we aren't seeing Biden or Trudeau capitulating, are we? Despite how she turned her back on women, it hurts to see a woman punished more than a man.

I'm not sure about Canadian history but with the notable exception of Nixon US Presidents don't really quit do they? Even if their rating is through the floor or they've been impeached. UK politics is a lot more revolving door as the Tories have showcased in recent times.

I would also say neither country has yet had their Tavistock or Bryson moment in the public consciousness. The swimmer Thomas was a bit of a moment as was fake boob guy in Canada but there's still a way to go and as someone else just said the size of the country will make a difference.

littlbrowndog · 15/02/2023 19:11

Scottish living in Scotland. Very happy she’s gone

Waitwhat23 · 15/02/2023 17:48

Several I know of, including myself.

And me.

Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP, alongside the lib dems and scottish labour oh and let's not forget Mad Maggie and the Scottish greens, have demonstrated in recent months nothing but contempt for the women in my country.

They had the chance in December to find a balance, and they chose not to do that.

They chose to put rapists and child molesters in female prisons, in changing rooms, in our hospital wards and in our refuges.

I will never vote Tory. But if you think I'll vote for any party who hands me over on a plate to some fucker like Adam Graham, you need your head examined.

I am not going to set myself and my female friends and relatives on fire to keep men warm. Fuck that.

I’m hoping the gender recognition bill will be the sacrificial lamb to try and distract from dubious financial management.

That gets my (non-Scottish) vote!

I'm sure I read this is a problem financially as well. And that they may not have enough £££ in the meter, to be alright.

To be honest, as a natural Labour voter, I'm hoping it doesn't finish them off and they come to their bloody senses of the ridiculous trans stuff. It'd be disastrous for democracy if they went bust and left the Tories with an open field.

George Moonbat has this to say:

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/feb/15/sunak-labour-keir-starmer-labour-party

The impact of pursuing this case could be massive. It is likely to come to court early next year, coinciding with an election campaign. The horrendous content of some of the messages leaked in the files, and the civil war within the party that the suit may reignite, could scarcely be greater gifts to the Conservatives. If the Labour party loses, it could be liable for an estimated £3-4m in costs – a figure Labour denies – perhaps sufficient to bankrupt the party.

Maybe this was it. Sorry as I'm behind on the thread now!

Cailin66 · 15/02/2023 19:30

Why is this not on the trending highlight given how it is top of the news and top of interest on here.

LexMitior · 15/02/2023 19:34

Fuckity bye, Nicola

RedToothBrush · 15/02/2023 19:41

Delphinium20 · 15/02/2023 18:54

@CryptoFascistMadameCholet good point. You're absolutely right. Most people voted for Biden because there were so many other factors that made him preferable over Trump.

Let's hope Sturgeon's fall will wake up other countries.

Biden could be in a lot of trouble if he is against anyone but Trump at the next Presidential.

Unless Trump also stands and splits the vote.

Id go as far as saying I think US is probably on track for a Republican presidency UNLESS it's Trump.

mrshoho · 15/02/2023 19:41

When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.
Arthur Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes

This phrase is what I thought of when Sturgeon was headbobbing, twitching and stuttering her way through the interviews surrounding the Isla Bryson situation.

The impossible being that Sturgeon knew that there was no way the transwoman convicted rapist could be housed in the female prison. Whatever remains must be the truth, is the fact that Bryson is most definitely Male. Sturgeon most definitely knew this but was unable to say it as she knew that would mean the end of the lie we have had to put up with all this time. Transwomen are not women. The house of cards is falling.

ResisterRex · 15/02/2023 19:43

Maybe this is what I read:

Labour wines and dines donors to fill empty coffers

"NEC members were told that party finances were in a parlous state due to £2 million-a-year legal bills arising from antisemitism lawsuits, disciplinary cases and data protection breaches; a bloated workforce throughout Corbyn’s tenure; and alleged “vanity projects” under his leadership."

"Party membership has also fallen by more than 100,000 to just over 400,000 since Starmer took office, although insiders say Labour has recorded a “mini-surge” in recent months following the scandal over Boris Johnson’s involvement in lockdown parties."

OMG12 · 15/02/2023 19:43

Has JKR said anything ( or has she been unable to stop laughing)?

Delphinium20 · 15/02/2023 19:45

Id go as far as saying I think US is probably on track for a Republican presidency UNLESS it's Trump.

I fear this too.

NicolaSturGONE · 15/02/2023 19:46

Scottish here.

And to the Guardian fuckwits - I work in the 'equalities sector'. I'm fucking delighted NS has gone. Maybe now Scotland can remember, and, pay attention to the other protected characteristics in the Equality Act (not just sex).

But speaking of 'sex' as a protected characteristic, I cannot count the number of times I've had to remind people I work with not to say 'gender' instead of 'sex' in their writings. The re-writing and misinterpretations of the Equality Act 2010 is extremely frustrating and I have to be careful when pointing out their errors so I don't get called a fucking TERF.

Wasn't there a complete collapse in support for the two parties in Canada that led to a surprise result no one expected?

If it can happen once...

user567543 · 15/02/2023 19:47

Yes another one who thinks the US democrats are in real trouble unless Trump is nominated - they'll go for that Florida Rep in his 40s...

Delphinium20 · 15/02/2023 19:48

I'm not sure about Canadian history but with the notable exception of Nixon US Presidents don't really quit do they? Even if their rating is through the floor or they've been impeached.

You are correct. Clinton was impeached but he stayed on as president.

By capitulate I meant change policy course or drop gender identity policies/executive orders/party directives. Neither have said, "we are wrong about this."

TheBiologyStupid · 15/02/2023 19:50

hongkongmum · 15/02/2023 13:31

You may disagree with her but she is trying to get this difficult issue right. A teenager trans girl was murdered this week. Isn’t it time to take some of the heat and the hatred out of this debate and focus on being kind and treating people with dignity?

NS's attempt to "take some of the heat out of this debate" involved calling anyone who disagreed with her as transphobic, homophobic, misogynistic and (possibly) racist. So much for "being kind and treating people with dignity"!

user567543 · 15/02/2023 19:53

Yes @hongkongmum I agree on the debate in general - but Nicola forced through legislation without any proper consideration of amendments. People are allowed to be happy that she in particular is no longer leading.

mrshoho · 15/02/2023 19:55

And to the poster who suggested we should take a break and try Haiku to calm down. I bet this was your placard wasn't it!

I almost couldn't believe it when someone at work told me Sturgeon was resigning this morning, had to check the news online for myself! YAY!

I can't remember where on Twitter I saw it a few days ago, but it does seem like word is starting to spread in Canada about male rapists/murderers in female prisons... and like in Scotland, when the general public find out that this is where 'TWAW' and 'be kind' lead, they are not happy.
There is still a long way to go obviously, but the little chinks of light are starting to spread I think, and Sturgeons resignation will speed that along hopefully!
