It's not on the Guardian site, even with a refresh, so this is definitely an unplanned development. Will be interesting to see what her reason is.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 15/02/2023 10:05

We’re going to miss you Nic (actually I bloody hope not. Surely the only way is up at this point?)

Datun · 15/02/2023 10:05

Just heard!!!

every politician in the country will be watching this.

Press conference at 11

Wow. I'm actually a bit emotional.

maddy68 · 15/02/2023 10:06

What a shame. She always stuck by her values whether you agreed with her or not.

CrkdLttrCrkdLttr · 15/02/2023 10:06

Radio 5 definitely giving the impression that choice of inmates for women’s prisons has been a deciding factor.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 15/02/2023 10:06

I always wonder what prompts sudden and unexpected resignations. Why now?

True, true. There are precious few politicians willing to stick up for the rapists in women's jails.

ILikeDungs · 15/02/2023 10:07

Women said NO in Glasgow, that helped send her on her way

There is also this, a police investigation into alleged fraud

Before we all start breaking out the champagne, is she just going to be replaced by another batshit genderist?

That was my first thought, too; what if her replacement is even more rabid?

puffyisgood · 15/02/2023 10:08

how does that old bay city rollers track go, bye bye something etc?

Thisisnotahotel · 15/02/2023 10:08

Thank fuck

Baldieheid · 15/02/2023 10:08

Good.

Although I'm not going to feel any relief till we know if her replacement believes in protecting sex offenders or their victims.

Farmageddon · 15/02/2023 10:09

mrshoho · 15/02/2023 10:03

No other option for her. Hope her husband steps down too. Wonder when though? Just wait now for the disclosures of what they have been up to.

I was thinking this - what is going to come out in the next while that they are ducking for cover from?

Resigning always sounds better than 'was fired in disgrace'...

SinnerBoy · 15/02/2023 10:09

FriedEggChocolate · Today 10:05

It's not on the Guardian site, even with a refresh...

I expect it to be along the lines of:

"Poor Saintly Nicola Driven Out By Anti-Trans Fascists."

WickedSerious · 15/02/2023 10:09

Good fucking riddance.

BeautifulDayintheneighbourhood · 15/02/2023 10:10

This has absolutely made my day. Thank God. I just hope no one worse takes over. Or equally bad.

Helleofabore · 15/02/2023 10:10

maddy68 · 15/02/2023 10:06

What a shame. She always stuck by her values whether you agreed with her or not.

And yet, as First Minister wasn't it her job to serve her national constituency? Not her own 'values'. But what is in the best interests of her constituency?

Maybe, just maybe, I have this entire elected leader of a nation thing back the fucking front. Maybe leaders are elected and should impose only their values onto the nation regardless of what the majority of the population want.

I think this will be what’s forced her hand.

Yeah, it’s been clear for a while that Sturgeon and her husband are financially dodgy as fuck. That’s got to have something to do with this

it’ll be a cumulative affect that pushed her over the edge

Floisme · 15/02/2023 10:10

Now watch and learn, Keir Starmer.
Watch and learn.

AutumnCrow · 15/02/2023 10:10

But will it be with immediate effect?

Or is it one of those 'not seeking re-election next year' tactics? Mind you, her limping on like a lame duck while the SNP's gender madness crashes and burns around them sounds quite good.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 15/02/2023 10:10

The only decent person in politics and she's been toppled by a bad choice on trans shit.

I hope so. None of the top politicians in England have anything like the established hold on power and position that NS had in Scotland. If it is genderism that's pushed her out of office it should serve as a stark warning to Keir and Rishi (and all those waiting in the wings).
