I work in the legal system and agree with you 100% on the threat of male violence towards women. But you can be concerned about that and also kind to trans kids and their families. That doesn’t mean allowing rapists into prisons but it means can we not navigate this issue with some empathy, on both sides and stop fuelling the hatred? How is that a controversial thing to say?

Are you assuming that none of the posters here have familial experience of trans people? Children identifying as trans? Partners suddenly identifying as trans? Are you really assuming nobody here has direct experience?

Mebbe read a bit more, get a feel of the lie of the land, before you start lecturing on here, huh?

It's a day for joyous celebrating across Scotland. The child sterilising conveyor belts in the Sandyford clinic is being shut down, and the woman who blocked amendments to keep male sex criminals out of women's prisons has resigned.

Can we start hoping that other politicians will take heed, and curb the instincts that have been leading them down the path towards destroying women's rights and child safeguarding.

It seems the only ones celebrating are ranger supporters in Glasgow , if you are like them you can join . I wouldn’t be very proud of it

Floisme · 15/02/2023 14:59

I would prefer it, Sundayvibes, if you didn't use my posts to make personal comments. Thank you.

ScrollingLeaves · 15/02/2023 14:59

Forgive this intrusion but, as a lot if people will be reading this thread, I wonder if in the wake of the gender confusion and chaos recent events in Scotland have revealed, including Lady Haldane’s ruling in the For Women Scotland case, anyone who has not yet done so might like to look at this Parliamentary petition to update the Equality Act to make clear the characteristic ‘sex’ is biological, not sex as modified by a Gender Recognition Certificate, and consider signing and sharing it?

Please ignore the Government Response so far, which is on the petition site, saying everything is fine as it is. The meaning of ‘sex ‘ has become confused. See Sex-Matters here:
sex-matters.org/posts/updates/sex-in-the-equality-act/

We need to get 100,000 signatures by 20th April so Parliament will consider a debate.

To sign and the petition,

Yes because finding someone else l be very easy !!

Doesn't matter if it's easy or not - they'll still have to be an SNP person not a Tory! She might ultimately be replaced as FM by a Tory but for now they just need a new leader of the SNP, easy or not.

Not what I've seen or heard, am not from Glasgow, not a Rangers fan at all (am Catholic not that it matters) and I'm happy with her gone.
Are you saying there is a big problem with them just because someone supports Rangers? A football team? Well you're clearly evidence of the sectarian issues in our country to hate or discount someone just because of the football club they like.

James Kirkup in The Spectator.

@CryptoFascistMadameCholet
Timely reminder.

This article is very relevant to Wales to. JK talks about how Wales is a small country, the public/ third sector is very small, left wing, everyone knows everyone else and wants to be seen as progressive, and so is very easy to capture. This is exactly what has happened in Wales. Lack of debate and dissent leads to really bad decision making.

Why you are all so happy about this is beyond me. If youvthibk the tories will do a better job for women’s rights you are deluded !! Not to mention she is highly respected abroad and I I’ll be very hard to find someone who can do the same . I guess everyone here is either English or really doesn’t care we stay under English rule for another hundreds of years . They treat us so well 🙄🙄🙄

Well the Tories could hardly do a worse job on women's rights.

I'm definitely not English but I'm 100% glad I was outvoted in the last referendum.

SNP have improved nothing in Scotland absolutely nothing.

hongkongmum · 15/02/2023 13:31

You may disagree with her but she is trying to get this difficult issue right. A teenager trans girl was murdered this week. Isn’t it time to take some of the heat and the hatred out of this debate and focus on being kind and treating people with dignity?

Nope, being kind has got women nowhere, especially with the ludicrous statements made by trans activists.I think the way they are behaving over a young person being killed and using it for political gain is horrendous. No one knows why this person was killed and for you to speculate is thoughtless and deeply disturbing

Wiluli · 15/02/2023 15:07

@Wiluli

Not to mention she is highly respected abroad and I I’ll be very hard to find someone who can do the same .

They like her in Russia. They call her Beluga.

Don’t be silly ! I actually based that sentence on facts . I travel abroad a lot , I speak and watch teh news on 5 different languages , most European leaders actuou respect her deeply .
Denying it or not liking it doesn’t change that . So unless you are one of those people who believes the U.K. , specially Scotland doesn’t need outside alliances then yes in that sense it’s a big loss .

Bitofhelpoverhere · 15/02/2023 15:09

The media reporting is linking her the GRR to her resignation, which is brilliant.

We really need to capitalise on this to make other parties take note, especially Plaid and Mark Drakeford in Wales.

Yes, indeed. There are upsides to having a small population - greater sense of community, for one thing - but the vulnerability to getting swept away by ideas without properly interrogating them is a clear downside.

I'm Scottish. I'm glad she's stepping down. She's a disgrace. Has super injunctions out against the press. She's was only ever intent on being a woman who gave Scotland independence. I'm always interested on these polls, no one I know has been asked no paper supports her or their readers or people in the wider public and I'm by no means speaking for everyone. Give junkies an extra £25 pw if they have a pet.

Why raise Brianna’s death but not Andy Wood‘s? Another 16 year old murdered the same day? Or the other teenagers stabbed to death this year, including Harley Barfield (16), Raymond James Quigley (18), Holly Newton (15), Ashley Wadsworth (19), and the young man who was attacked near Holyrood Palace only on Sunday and died as a result? Knife crime is a huge problem that needs to be addressed not deflected.

You must have a very poor opinion of the SNP if you don’t think ANY of them are capable of being First Minister! Are you sure YOU aren’t a Tory? 😂

Do you lot never long for a stress free afternoon, where your teeth aren't permanently lodged in someone elses throat?

It's like a tabloid comments section these days. Perhaps less daily mail reading and more haiku might help...

Not at all , but will take time .

They’ve had years! All party leaders have a limited time at the top. I’m amazed that you claim to support a political party and want them to lead an independent Scotland yet also assume that party has no competent leaders waiting in the wings. Both things cannot be true at the same time - either the SNP are good enough to govern or they aren’t.
