The Telegraph article is cleverly written in that it's focused on the policy issues and whether it should be reported as 'a 53 year old woman was arrested'. They have navigated around things carefully in order to print that.
The problem for the media is going to be the potential to prejudice a future trial, and there are strict rules around this.
Similarly in terms of the nature of the crime, if God forbid it is of any sexual nature, the identity of the victim must be protected (and also age comes into it here regardless).
Unusually we already know the identity of the victim so it will limit what can be reported.
There will be some strange wording around this if he is charged.
But we should be pushing our MPs for answers as to how a case should be reported in general terms if a person has been living in a different gender. NS should be pushed on this at FM's questions as it should be possible to answer that question without reference to a specific case.
