reduxx.info/scotland-crossdressing-butcher-arrested-in-case-of-missing-child/

Only source so far, but appears to be potentially corroborated by the Sun:

What does this have to do with transpeople?

As much as it pains me to click on and skim through a Sun article, it referred to the suspect as a man and doesn't mention trans anywhere.

He's an out outfits transwoman Marge. Read the other posts.

Boiledbeetle · 07/02/2023 21:58

Out and proud that should say

Here’s a partial screenshot of the above article for those who can’t get past the pop up

For those hard of reading, a repost. HTH.

kelsae · 07/02/2023 21:58

You have never met "him" clearly

He calls himself "Amy"
He advertises himself as a single woman looking to meet other single women
He dresses as a women , wears full make up and prosthetics to look like a woman

So just how exactly do you want to exclude him from the trans umbrella?

Vebrithien · 07/02/2023 22:10

The poor girl. I hope she gets all the support she needs

I wonder how widely this will be reported. Any thoughts?

Cailleach1 · 07/02/2023 22:10

At least it is reported on in Scotland; and there is outrage. Alleged perpetrator would probably be protected in Ireland and a court order banning people from discussing his 'identity'. Better to quietly shove him in with the trapped women in Limerick Prison.

It is difficult to come to terms with the fact that the current Taoiseach (PM) of Ireland, Leo Varadker, asked the IRFU to reconsider when they stated they wanted to protect women's safety and fairness in sport. And, on foot of that Varadkar was subsequently deemed decent enough to take the revolving shared premiership of the country. For shame. I think that is an an equally brutal hatred of women as the chappies who locked women up for having babies out of wedlock.

containsnuts · 07/02/2023 22:18

I find this really creepy and for some reason it's making me think of Buffalo Bill from the Silence of the Lambs. Poor girl.

ResisterRex · 07/02/2023 22:23

There seems to be a fair few parallels with Thomas Harris's classic.

Calmdown14 · 07/02/2023 22:23

The Telegraph article is cleverly written in that it's focused on the policy issues and whether it should be reported as 'a 53 year old woman was arrested'. They have navigated around things carefully in order to print that.

The problem for the media is going to be the potential to prejudice a future trial, and there are strict rules around this.

Similarly in terms of the nature of the crime, if God forbid it is of any sexual nature, the identity of the victim must be protected (and also age comes into it here regardless).
Unusually we already know the identity of the victim so it will limit what can be reported.

There will be some strange wording around this if he is charged.

But we should be pushing our MPs for answers as to how a case should be reported in general terms if a person has been living in a different gender. NS should be pushed on this at FM's questions as it should be possible to answer that question without reference to a specific case.

You're a wee bit behind the curve on this m'dear.

To be fair, your first post was pretty much correct.

BornBlonde · 07/02/2023 22:34

That poor child. I hope she and her family get support to heal.

I also hope justice is done and the perpetrator goes to a male prison

It is truly sickening seeing the state of what Ireland has become. The cheek of TRAs who hold up Ireland as proof of self id success. The lies and false reporting of criminal cases makes a mockery of any truth being reported. It is scary.

This is so grim. Have I got this right - a transgender butcher who publicly backed Nicola Sturgeon's self-ID law has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of the 11-year-old girl.

Where to even begin.

Don’t forget the JK connection! 😱

Zephirine · 07/02/2023 22:46

OP, cross dressing doesn’t mean he is trans. From all accounts he is a man. Glad the young girl is safe.

CCmumsnet · 07/02/2023 22:47

We're taking this thread down for a while, following numerous reports.

HopeMumsnet · 08/02/2023 09:34

Hi there,
We are reinstating this thread now because the story has been stood up.

ShireWifeofNigelFarage · 08/02/2023 09:45

Thanks @HopeMumsnet!

Mumsnetters were ahead of the mainstream news, as is often the case.
Sensible to pause the thread while the papers caught up with us.

MidsomerMurmurs · 08/02/2023 09:46

OP, cross dressing doesn’t mean he is trans

We’ve been repeatedly told it does. Especially in Scotland. The trans umbrella and all that.

ShireWifeofNigelFarage · 08/02/2023 09:49

I wonder how the courts will be dealing with the name/pronoun issue?

Guess we’ll find out later.

RhymesWithOrange · 08/02/2023 09:51

You are indeed behind the times.

Stonewall includes cross dressing as "trans" and in Scotland he most certainly would be accepted as a woman by the police and courts if that what he said he was.
