Queensland self-ID Bill is loopier than Scotland

Whilst the Scottish gender self-ID legislation founders, here in Queensland (AUS) the Labor state government is ploughing ahead with a Bill that is even more insane. www.parliament.qld.gov.au/Work-of-Committees/Committees/Committee-Details?cid=170&id=4219
This Bill will allow:

  • change of "sex" on birth certificate each year, up to 3 times
  • "sex" is not binary of course, and you can be non-binary, genderqueer, agender, or ANYTHING YOU LIKE, as long as it is not obscene and you can show that it is in use....so, gendermaverick, illusoboy, omnigender are all fine. To be listed as "sex" for God's sake.
  • a "developmentally informed" practitioner, who could be your child's physiotherapist or school guidance counsellor, can help a 12 year old go to court to change their name and sex on their birth certificate, against parental approval.
  • organisations working with children will no longer have any exemption from anti-discrimination law. Fetishists can queue up to be scout leaders and wear their prosthetic breasts to school.
It becomes interesting when it intersects with other laws. Strip searching in prisons needs two guards of the same sex as the prisoner. If the prisoner is illusoboy sex, this could be a challenge.

Spare a thought for us and please help publicise. The media has mostly not noted this impending law.

That’s horrifying and I live in QLD! I had no idea!

Rainbowshit · 05/02/2023 11:00

WTF?!?!?! 🤬🤬

Rightsraptor · 05/02/2023 11:01

I think you'll find most Queenslanders have no idea either, @EatDiamondsForBreakfast .

That's how this thing works.

ArcaneWireless · 05/02/2023 11:03

MarinaRhinella · 05/02/2023 11:05

They did "consultation" over the Christmas break, whilst most people were snoozing. Submissions are 50:50 feminists and 20 year olds saying how much better this will make their lives.

Fuck that. Hope is gets blocked before it's too late there.

StClare101 · 05/02/2023 11:08

Shit. I’m in NSW. Had no idea. Will go searching.

Sall Glover of Giggle was one of the people speaking against at the public hearing

Kat Karena of Active Watchful Waiting gave a very passionate submission at the hearing, that packed a punch telling the parliamentary committee some truths about the trans epidemic in young people.

It's hard to even know what to say to that.

Will gender recognition in Queensland be recognised in the rest of Australia?

How is the administrative cost being met? Is there a charge for changing the sex marker on your birth certificate?

Surely any parent who finds out about this will be outraged, quite rightly, by government over reach?

Do you have anyone with a big enough platform to raise awareness about this?

Shelefttheweb · 05/02/2023 11:27

Three times a year seems rather arbitrary. What if you gender shifts hourly? But also what is the point of recording that? Surely by the time you get to that stage just do away with gender on the birth certificate completely and just make everything mixed gender?

Of course there may be times it might be useful to know which of the two body types you have, for example for medical treatment, so maybe record that somewhere instead? It would be useful if we could agree a word for each type...

Rainbowshit · 05/02/2023 11:36

That last point is horrifying. Queer theory really is just about getting access to children isn't it?

Sorry for the confusion, they can only change sex once a year. So even more problematic for the poor gender fluid folks who may as you suggest need hourly sex updates. We could do away with paper certificates and have an electronic birth certificate with sex fluctuating on a sine wave, or even chaotically. As for "gendermaverick" not being a useful description for the hospital emergency department, I think it is being left to the medical establishments to decide if they need to know the type of wedding tackle an individual may have.

Hopefully it's so screamingly mental, it will peak the state

CryInToYourCornflakesNicola · 05/02/2023 11:53

Wow, and I thought the Scottish one was batshit. You need help, have you maybe tried to contact kjk or someone high profile in oz to help get this made public?

I dont know anything enough about your politics, do you have a second tier like our house of lords?

OriginalUsername2 · 05/02/2023 11:55

It would be great if the newspapers picked up this thread instead of some gossipy one today.

Will gender recognition in Queensland be recognised in the rest of Australia?
>Interesting question, but a couple of other states already have similar laws.

Surely any parent who finds out about this will be outraged, quite rightly, by government over reach?
>Yep they will. This state is pretty conservative. Hence the gov trying hard to keep this Bill quiet. Some of the submissions from trans supporter groups did not think it went far enough, and said that the government needs to supply funding to help the 12 year olds get to court to change their sex.

Do you have anyone with a big enough platform to raise awareness about this?
Not currently. Germaine Greer is here I believe, but sadly very much retired. Major media including the ABC are completely captured. They are ruled over by our Stonewall equivalent, ACON.

If you are a parent, do you get to change your name on your child’s birth certificate as well as your own? Or will birth certificates cease to link generations and only provide a record of the fact a child was born at time/date/place? Or if your parents no longer exist on official paperwork and you are changing your name too, what does it prove? How can you show it links to you? And if you can’t, what’s to stop other people changing your birth certificate?

Britinme · 05/02/2023 13:41

It's totally batshit. I note this tweet in response to what Rachel Wong said:

*82,000 men have sued the Boy Scouts of America for sexual abuse by scoutmasters

these were not scoutmasters that became predators these were predators that became scoutmasters,
Self Id gives predatory men access to male free safe spaces for woman.*

FrancescaContini · 05/02/2023 13:52

😧

Abccde · 05/02/2023 14:21

You've got to hand it to TRAs - how they have managed to convince those in power that this is progressive is incomprehensible.

I do imagine that there will be a massive backlash against this in the future - especially from those kids who will be most harmed.

This is essentially state sponsored abuse.

Casilero · 05/02/2023 14:23

World really has gone mad

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/02/2023 20:59

Kellie Jay Keen is going to Aus soon, isn't she?
Will she be visiting QLand on her tour?

Helleofabore · 05/02/2023 21:42

Queensland is my home state and I have been watching this from afar. It is very concerning. When I was back for a visit mid year last year, no one was talking about this really. Most of my family are simply are not aware.

I hope enough there is enough time for push back.
