I do also wish someone would also talk about the fact that Mulvaney was a fairly unsuccessful comedian with a tip jar before he began his public 'transitioning'. It has been the most spectacular grift. He's made a fortune from it and gone from nonentity to being invited to the White House.

I think this really gets to the point:

Maybe I’m making lazy assumptions but as more and more men speak publicly on this topic (on both sides) I really do suspect that the positions they take reveal a lot about their relationships with their own mothers.

I suspect, from snippets like the quote above, Brendan O’Neill loves and respects his mother and sees her as a complete person in her own right.

Whereas some of the writers on the other side of the debate (cough cough Pink News boss) see women as service and support for men, baby incubators to buy etc.

And yes, love the double meaning of FFS here! It probably won’t translate well for US Spiked readers mind you.

That's about right.

The lyrics usually going round my head are "come Armageddon come" (the Smiths) after reading anything about Dylan #FFS Mulvaney, but Brendan gives me hope.

Yes. It's good old fashioned western world colonization.

Hostile take over, silence and disempower the natives, ban their culture and language and enforce enactment of the obviously superior beliefs of the colonisers, hang a few as an example to the rest about any ideas of rebellions, and then take and indoctrinate the kids before they learn the old, backward, heathen ways of the indigenous.

In about fifty years come the official apologies and sad photos and Hugh Jackman will star in a film about it, and local authorities will try to re establish the old ways through teaching them in primary schools in special classes.

O'Neill's writing is crystal clear. So sharp.

And yes, Greer had the measure of this in the Female Eunuch, way back in the 70s.

As a relative newbie that article was brilliant in its simplicity. Although my caffeine deprived brain had mixed up Brendan as being Mrs Brown’s Boys Brendan which caused confusion 😀. I’ve got coffee now so all is good.

I may be in the minority here, but I still believe that it is still an act for this Dylan. Perhaps he's getting pulled in further into this thing, but a nose job isn't going to be much of a blocker to detransition.

its not like Dylan had an overly masculine face to begin with. He didn't start from looking like a rugged bearded 6ft 8 lumberjack.

So, I'm not convinced that a bit of facial surgery has more to do with his trans journey to womanhood than sheer vanity.

Very few men who transition have genital surgery. Under 10% I believe.

When people lobby for trans healthcare, they typically mean hormones and facial surgery for men. For women it means breast amputation and hormones

O’Neill is the furthest thing from a feminist I can think of. He’s jumped on this because he’s a cynical grifter, and he’s taking people that believe him like mugs. God I hate how easily people are duped.

You can have whatever viewpoint you like about trans, obviously, but for the love of God don’t blindly follow the likes of him. He just weakens, and cheapens your argument.
