The prof is on tomorrow's programme

I’ll be on BBC Radio 4’s Anti-Social tomorrow talking about pronouns, risk assessment and the issues around transgender prison placement policy.

Should be good...!

Shame WH are too chicken.

It will be interesting because Adam Fleming & co are very "mustn't frighten the horses" and take a dim view of anything that isn't hastening us on towards the Progressive Utopia.

nauticant · 03/02/2023 11:49

Here's your 15 minute warning before the start of the programme.

Don't be surprised to hear the BBC pushing back with Most Oppressed, hate on both sides, men can be safeguarded fine in women's prisons, and #bekind. However, chip, chip, chip, and the sunlight does get in.

It's on now. Lots of sher/her for rapists and fawning. The guests:
Steph Richards, founder of Translucent
Professor Jo Phoenix.

nauticant · 03/02/2023 12:12

Scotland correspondent talks about the BBC Editorial Guidelines and explains why the programmes is going with she/her for Isla Bryson because that's what she would prefer. Except when they decide to use "he". What a mess.

WarriorN · 03/02/2023 12:13

Listening now - reasons for pronouns in the press. Because court did... 🧐

"Last weekend another case [Tiffany Scott] emerged" like this was a completely unknown thing.

WarriorN · 03/02/2023 12:15

Scott - she argh.

Does Scott have a grc??

OP posts:
nauticant · 03/02/2023 12:16

Don't know. But Scott has "transitioned". With no indication of what that word might mean in general or might mean in the case of Scott.

nauticant · 03/02/2023 12:18

Adam Fleming skated over Sturgeon's use of "racist" to describe those who don't want rapists in women's prison very quickly. You could easily have missed it.

WarriorN · 03/02/2023 12:18

I need to point out that woman's hour did a big piece on a women's prison today, Eastwood I think, where there's been lots of failures.

It centred around unit 4 which seems to be a segregated unit for v vulnerable women. Mental health in particular. That went downhill hugely since 2016. It worries me that these are the units that might house males.

OP posts:
WarriorN · 03/02/2023 12:19

They didn't talk about men in women's jails to my knowledge but I missed some

Finally, some sense, the Scottish correspondent said that the Prison's Service is effectively using a form of self-ID and this is the basis of the problem. Thus indicating that "BUT THE GRR BILL CHANGES NOTHING" are obfuscating.

"Alleged trans" Shock

How very terfy.

nauticant · 03/02/2023 12:23

Prof Phoenix: this is the death of "it will never happen".

Steph stresses "alleged trans". The SPS have handled this remarkably well. There's a lot of controversy but it's fine because not one single woman in the women's estate has had an incident. The media are driving a moral panic.

AlliwantforChristmasisgu · 03/02/2023 12:23

It is getting to throwing things at the radio time…..

’Alleged trans’ is interesting.

nettie434 · 03/02/2023 12:23

Thanks for the shout out. Jo Phoenix has just made it very clear that this is something that has been going on for several years.

Here's the programme link. It will work while the programme is live, then as usual there is a gap of a couple of hours until it is up on Sounds.

AmigoDogs · 03/02/2023 12:24

What about Karen White?

AmigoDogs · 03/02/2023 12:24

"no incidents"
"no woman harmed"
"a moral panic"
All for clickbait?

nauticant · 03/02/2023 12:25

Prof Phoenix provides evidence about problems. Adam Fleming asks Steph to comment. Steph's comment is "I know nothing about this".

nauticant · 03/02/2023 12:31

Was that a statistic that half of the trans prisoners discover they're trans when in custody?

They did say that 90% of trans (people/prisoners?) have not had THE SURGERY.

Prof Phoenix responded to "but there are hardly any transwomen in prisons" with the issue of there can be a massively disproportionate impact.

Steph: we think all of the bad transwomen prisoners shouldn't be in the women's prison estate, it should only be the good ones.

AlliwantforChristmasisgu · 03/02/2023 12:33

I wish Jo had mentioned the proportion of male vs female prisoners.

nauticant · 03/02/2023 12:36

The BBC people seem to be thrilled with the terrible risks involved in transwomen being in the male estate and incredibly high percent of being sexually offended against.

But they did state that 50% of transwomen prisoners are there for sexual offending. With the figure for Scotland being 1 in 3.

AmigoDogs · 03/02/2023 12:38

DH is now commenting. Steph's "I don't know anything about that" started him off.

Shelefttheweb · 03/02/2023 12:39

Scotland correspondent talks about the BBC Editorial Guidelines and explains why the programmes is going with she/her for Isla Bryson because that's what she would prefer. Except when they decide to use "he". What a mess.

This should be challenged. Who wrote the guidelines that say the BBC must not tell the truth? That make people think these are women’s crimes? What assessment was made of the impact of false reporting on women?
