Mumsnet vibrator: for "mothers, women and people with wombs"

Amongst otherthings that stand out from the article:

"We knew from previous activations with our community that sex and motherhood is a deeply-rooted taboo. The lack of conversation and resources on the topic is leaving women and people with wombs feeling side-lined as sexual beings. At Smile Makers, we have been tackling taboos around female sexuality for over 10 years and that was obviously an important one to remove"

Where to start with the language mangling? Confused

I've just clicked the link. I'd kinda noticed the picture, but absent mindedly identified it as a green concealer for redness. Is that still a thing? I rarely buy makeup.

What other people with wombs other than women are there? I mean they obviously know these people are female as they talk about female sexuality, but I’m curious as to who else but women would a) have a womb b) be a mother? Why are mothers singled out what about aunts, sisters, grandmothers….

erm...... Errrr. weeeellllllllll....

Nope, getting nothing!

It your vibrator's in your womb, you've gone very wrong somewhere.

😂😂😂

Girls

Which is why this language gets awkward

BrutusMcDogface · 01/02/2023 18:17

Last time I checked, my womb was not a sexual organ. Ffs, @MNHQ.

Yuck! Mental picture of some weirdo with an extensive anatomy collection. I'm assuming they're trying to be inclusive (I'm starting to feel that can get in the sea along with 'be kind'). Don't many TM have a hysterectomy, either electively, 'cos dysphoria, or because of the baleful affect of excessive testosterone on women's bodies.

Well i know of someone who bought a cervix!

IcakethereforeIam · 01/02/2023 18:22

Don't remind me, Amazon have been sending me some very strange emails just for looking at them. If IW actually bought some, it might be the follow up marketing that aggravated the strangeness.

BellaAmorosa · 01/02/2023 18:23

It's appeasing the males who claim to be women. The deconstruction of woman. Wombs are another one of those random body parts that some "people" have and which are completely unconnected to their sex which we have no idea about anyway because we haven't checked their chromosomes....or something.

beastlyslumber · 01/02/2023 18:24

If they'd said "people with clitorises" at least it would be relevant to the product. Very low effort MN.

EmpressaurusOfWitchesBackFromTheDead · 01/02/2023 17:26

How about women who no longer have wombs?

You are clearly denied a manufactured orgasm!

abcdeg · 01/02/2023 18:31

How is sex after motherhood taboo😂

Advert is just saying anything at this point. Yeah, it is taboo to talk openly about sex, nobody needs to be enlightened on what goes on in your private life, like??

abcdeg · 01/02/2023 18:33

Also three different ways to describe women and you still won't appease people who believe in gender ideology by adding the womb bit

NewBootsAndRanty · 01/02/2023 18:33

Love how they're simultaneously tackling taboos and using coy euphemisms like "down there"

I’m wondering if it is aimed at people who own a womb which they carry round in a bag like some kind of fashion statement. But what sort of tote would one need I wonder?

FemaleAndLearning · 01/02/2023 19:17

DontAskIDontKnow · 01/02/2023 17:27

If it’s a vibrator, WTF has a womb got to do with it?

I was wondering this. You really shouldn't be poking a vibrator through your cervix into your womb.

FemaleAndLearning · 01/02/2023 19:20

ResisterRex · 01/02/2023 17:58

"The idea of anything entering down there after giving birth is enough to make you cringe."

Cringe?

"motherhood is a deeply-rooted taboo"

No it isn't.

"sex and motherhood is a deeply-rooted taboo"

The two together make a taboo? These days?

"people with wombs feeling side-lined as sexual beings"

Well the advert has certainly dehumanised these "people". "With wombs".

And apart from anything else, the first thing I thought when I saw the picture was that it looks like that slanty nozzle you use on the vacuum cleaner that makes a very loud sound and sucks very hard but seems to be for the skirting board?

We used to call the crevice attachment 'the groper' god knows why. Only later in life did I realise this was not it's name.

Forgotthebins · 01/02/2023 19:32

Smilemakers not making me smile.

VikingLady · 01/02/2023 19:32

Will it work for me if I only have a womb in a preserving jar? Does it need to be attached? Because honestly this language sounds like it's for serial killers with an interesting Jack the Ripper-esque collection.

If we're talking attached body parts, do I need to own the womb? I see I no longer need to own a vulva, which is good, since I'm pretty certain I never purchased mine - it came free at the point of issue. I don't think I own it as such. It's just a part of me.

And my friends who are mums talk about sex A LOT. Should I tell them that's taboo? I don't think they know.

nopey nope nope

Zireael · 01/02/2023 19:55

"sex and motherhood is a deeply-rooted taboo"

It clearly isn't taboo, otherwise why would women go on to have more children? And if it was taboo, why would family/friends/strangers ask when mothers are going to have another child?
