After so many years seemingly howling in the wind, FINALLY the MSM are taking the issues , seriously, it's on front page news, discussed in Westminster, BBC, ITV, C4,it's all over Twitter, even the bloody GUARDIAN is reporting on it, and, by the outrage over Adam Graham, the convicted rapist being put in a women's jail, it looks like we are on the right side of history after all...

What is there to be "gleeful" about? Wouldn't you rather the double rape didn't happen at all to begin with?

The decision of where to send transwomen was always decided on a case-by-case basis anyway, this isn't the first time a transwoman has been sent to a male prison. Also the 5 transwomen who are in women's prisons are there for non-violent offences. Nothing has changed, and this has nothing to do with Scotland's GRC proposals.

I think the cat is out of the bag. I think people might try to ram the cat back into the bag, people might try to ignore the cat, and the cat might get a bit stuck at times. But the cat is definitely getting the fuck out of that bag.

This is a glorious post!

Don't pretend you give a single fuck about those two women, or any women Marge, your posts make it perfectly clear you do not.

I can see the tide slowly turning in the UK and many other countries. In the US and Canada [which tends to define its politics in opposition to the American right wing], the trans stuff seems as extreme as ever.

I think political polarization is going to make it very, very hard for the North Americans to move past this issue. So we might end up with a very odd global situation where the US and Canadian left continues to be very very extreme pro-TRA, even as the rest of the world (Europe, the other Angophone countries etc.) gradually steps back and starts to tighten up safeguarding and adopt more moderate policies around trans inclusion.

Maybe a bit like the situation in COVID, where you would get American leftists screaming angrily about how awful countries like Denmark and Norway were, because they were opening schools fairly early, not forcing people to wear masks outside, and stressing that for children the vaccine was not that important and that it was up to parents to decide. I actually saw American commentators suggesting that the Europeans had obviously been influenced by the American Trumpist right. Er, no; these are Nordic social democracies we are talking about; I don't think they are adopting these moderate and common sense policies because they've been listening to Donald Trump! But as the tide gradually turns in Europe and the rest of the dev'd world outside North America, we'll probably hear all this again.

FWIW, I doubt very much that strictly Gender Critical policies are going to be mass-adopted anywhere in the world.

I do think that the vetting process for transition will be massively tightened up over the next decade in most countries (except the US and Canada, which will continue to be insane), and there will be a shift towards trans people being put into a sort of third-gender/"courtesy woman" category; like, sure, we'll address you as a woman out of courtesy, but there are going to be some single-sex spaces that you'll always be excluded from, and you'll have to be happy with some sort of special trans or gender neutral provision in those situations. That's OK with me, I guess.

NowDoYouBelieveMe · 31/01/2023 02:55

You can support trans rights and also not support caging women with a rapist.

Trans women are still women.

HirplesWithHaggis · 31/01/2023 02:59

They're not.

LOL nah! I don't believe you!

Trans women are women.

If they were, you wouldn't have to say it so much.

StalkedByASpider · 31/01/2023 05:19

If you believe that trans women ARE women, then they belong in women's prisons regardless of the crime they commit.

If you believe that trans women ARE women, you believe that rapists and those who sexually assault exclusively women belong in a women's prison.

Because a woman - regardless of her crime - does not ever belong in a men's prison. Women who have committed a crime against another woman don't get put in a men's prison. Because they're women.

So, what is it? Either trans women actually AREN'T women - or else they ARE women and putting rapists in female jails is OK. Pick which camp you're in.

If you think trans women really are women and you're supporting them to live their lives in exactly the same way as a woman, then you can't argue against a trans woman rapist being put in a women's jail.

For any sane person, very obviously a trans woman who sexually assaults, murders or attacks women should not be in a women's jail. Because they're male-bodied, and it puts the women in jail at risk.

Let's see how many of the TWAW crowd want to support rapists in female prisons. Because if they do, that shows how little they really do care about women's safety. And if they don't support trans women in women's prisons, then that proves that trans women aren't actually the same as women after all.

Checkmate.

Debbehthchosenmum · 31/01/2023 05:34

I am and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Obviously it's dark subject matter but the absurdity of TWAW is having light shone on it, finally. My worry is that the media already seem to have moved on but the timing of this was absolutely chefs kiss

NowDoYouBelieveMe · 31/01/2023 02:55

Trans women are still women.

Women are women, regardless of what crime they commit. Women who commit a crime belong in a women's prison, irrespective of the nature of their crime.

So you're either condoning putting a rapist in prison with women, or you accept there is a fundamental difference between trans women and women.

Pick one. Both cannot be true simultaneously.
