Elite sports people speaking up!

1000 replies

Signalbox · 30/01/2023 10:29

There seems to be an increasing number of sports people speaking up about the problem of males completing in women's sports which is positive. Thought it might be useful to have a thread of those who are risking sticking their heads above the parapet. Obviously the likes of Sharon Davies, Mara Yamauchi and Martina Navratilova have been bravely doing this for sometime but now we appear to have a few current athletes as well who are prepared to risk the mob to ensure women have fair competition. Is it too much to hope for that there will be a snowball effect?

A Man Utd player refused to wear an LGBTQ jacket so the entire team did not wear it.

Now that’s really interesting - did the management and team mates quietly agree with him or did they feel neutral about the cause and thus prioritised team unity over it?

The problem with forcing ‘acceptance’ via the display of symbols is that it’s not real, so has no longevity.

Stonewall’s overreach in work place policy has created a similar effect.

’Live and let live’ was going pretty well but the authoritarianism of activists has taken acceptance backwards instead of forwards.

”The advantages that accrue from being born male once puberty is reached is why I absolutely believe in bringing back the swab test. Those who are born male should only compete in male categories. And I feel the same way about our spaces in general. Yet, as soon as you speak out about this you get jumped on by some trans activists who will accuse you of being transphobic, which I’m certainly not.”

Judy Murray: 'Some activists will accuse you of being transphobic. I'm certainly not'

This interview came with instructions. “Ask her about doing Strictly,” I was told more than once. I sense though, that Ms Murray means business…

Another fantastic, powerful woman to have speaking up about this💪

lcakethereforeIam · 08/12/2024 10:09

Thank you for that link. First off, I'm glad Judy Murray called out the hyperbole in too many newspaper articles and, especially, headlines.

Also, I'd not seen this quote from Seb Coe before

Last month, Sebastian Coe, President of World Athletics, was unequivocal about protecting women’s sport. “It’s a very clear proposition to me: if you do not protect (the female) category, or you are in any way ambivalent about it for whatever reason, then it will not end well for women’s sport. I come from a sport where that is absolutely sacrosanct.”

He's been, iirc, a bit shit about protecting anything other than elite female sport. I hope this means he's seen sense.

I thought Billy Jean King was at least 'be kind' if not an outright tra. Either I was mistaken or her friendship with Judy Murray shows the two sides can get on. Either way it's good news.

It's not just about puberty, though. A puberty-blocked boy is out-throwing girls in West Virginia middle schools shot putt competition. Not the only case, either. All males, whatever their age or maturity, have male athletic performance advantage over females.

CAIS athletes don't go through puberty, but are 50 times more likely to be in women's sport compared to their incidence in the general population.

Using puberty as a demarcation line is worse than just allowing males because women and girls will still lose out but it will be far less obvious that they are losing out to males - even to the women and girls themselves.

GailBlancheViola · 08/12/2024 12:15

Yes BellaAmorosa the line has to be no males, full stop at ANY level of women and girls sport.

Cheek swab test - Y Chromosome compete in the male category, the end.

Yes, we have to draw the line at male, period.

Well, it’s not perfect LTA but it’s a start!

lcakethereforeIam · 11/12/2024 20:03

There doesn't seem to be any male puberty fudge either.

duc748 · 11/12/2024 20:04

Never heard of padel before.

Chip, chip, chip is how erosion works. It may take time for a mountain top to reach the sea, but it always does in the end.

Anyone see this, and think, FOTTFSOFATFOSM?

Those murderous medieval bastards who think (rightly, it seems) they can buy anyone and anything? In a sane world, they'd be pariahs like NK. I hope there's loads of opposition to this.

If Fifa was not so hypocritical and its administration not so venal, the prospect of hosting a big sports tournament could be held out as a carrot to get a country to improve its human rights or environmental record. But Fifa just care about money. The money they get personally and the money they control. So Qatar and Saudi Arabia etc get their prestigious tournament on the basis of vague promises.

duc748 · 12/12/2024 18:52

They've had golf tournaments, F1, snooker even. With no improvement to their record on human rights or the environment. That carrot is a dead carrot. But football is the biggie (and, I suppose, one of the most easily bought).

Third woman faces 10 match ban for calling a man a man.

https://x.com/compose/post

“Male footballer bites an opponent - 10 Match Ban

Female footballer calls a man a man - 10 Match Ban

The case of a THIRD female footballer punished for stating that a man is indeed a man has yet again highlighted the gross misogyny at the heart of the FA.

In the latest case, a female player reportedly received a 10-match ban for shouting ‘go on big man’ at the male footballer Blair Hamilton. Hamilton is the 6-foot tall male who has played on the England women’s university team, Hastings United, and Saltdean Women, and was also picked as substitute goalie for Sutton United Women’s team by their male manager Lucy Clark.

This third case of the FA punishing a female player for stating the truth has emerged in an interview with Hamilton on the 'Football versus Homophobia' podcast, which was broadcast in March 2024.

Hamilton describes a ‘red mist’ descending when he was called a man, which led to him making a formal complaint to the FA. The FA duly obliged by hauling the unknown female player through its disciplinary process and banning her from her sport, says Hamilton. This is the same punishment meted out to former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez for biting an opponent in 2013.

The latest case of female players being punished for stating the obvious follows the cases of two teenage girls, who were brought before the FA’s National Serious Case Panels and handed out match bans for saying what they were seeing – men on the pitch.

Despite FA charges, outcomes, and fines being published on a monthly basis, these cases don’t appear on the FA website. Why is that? How many other players, fans or clubs have been sanctioned for calling out men playing in the women’s game? What is being hidden from us?

The FA is discriminating against women and girls by allowing males into the female game. Then further discriminating by handing out excessive punishments when this unfairness (and the truth) is called out. It's a means to silence women and prohibit any further challenge. We call on the FA and Lisa Nandy, the Secretary of State for Sport to make football fair for females. No males in the female game.”

It is grim!

SinnerBoy · 04/02/2025 19:31

Good luck getting Nandy on board.

Ingenieur · 04/02/2025 19:34

Red mist

How manly of him

Truthlikeness · 04/02/2025 19:40

Once again hurty words from women are treated more harshly than actual violence from men. Getting very tired of this now.

duc748 · 04/02/2025 19:44

Appalling as this is, it would be almost pleasing to see Nandy put on the spot. Justify this!
