Elite sports people speaking up!

There seems to be an increasing number of sports people speaking up about the problem of males completing in women's sports which is positive. Thought it might be useful to have a thread of those who are risking sticking their heads above the parapet. Obviously the likes of Sharon Davies, Mara Yamauchi and Martina Navratilova have been bravely doing this for sometime but now we appear to have a few current athletes as well who are prepared to risk the mob to ensure women have fair competition. Is it too much to hope for that there will be a snowball effect?

This is very true - in fact you don't even have to register at all. You can run without a barcode and have the same non-competitive fun without registering yourself as male.

NotBadConsidering · 18/05/2024 10:11

Also I don't believe that there are only 2 genders- that belongs in the old testament. So sorry that Mumsnet has become hatenet.

You are correct, there are approximately 120 genders and counting. Funny how sports aren’t rushing to create categories for the neutrois gender people or the graygender people. How transphobic of them🙄.

There are, however, only two sexes and that’s how sport is categorised. HTH.

👏👏👏

"Wimbledon and BBC legend Sue Barker has backed calls for a ban on self-identified trans women competing against biological females in sport.
The TV presenter has revealed she agrees with fellow former tennis ace Martina Navratilova, saying that 'young girls' dreams' are at stake."

"When asked by the Telegraph whether she agreed with Navratilova's stance on self-ID in sport, Barker said: 'I just think you take away the young girls' dreams, so I am definitely with Navratilova.'"

Sue Barker: trans women should not compete against biological females

Nine-time Wimbledon singles champion Navratilova has long opposed allowing transgender female competitors to take part in women's sports - calling them 'failed male athletes'.

I believe Sue Baker has said she is retiring after this Wimbledon so I guess she doesn't have to worry about the impact on her career.

Why do these articles never make it clear than 'transgender athletes' aren't being 'banned' from anything, or prevented from participating in the sport of their choice? They are simply being asked to compete in a men's comp if they are men.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 23/07/2024 19:09

Like the accurate use of the word "hulking" in the headline😂

OttersMayHaveShiftedInTransit · 23/07/2024 19:20

Hmmm how ever can we tell? Well in cycling shorts it's pretty bloody obvious!
While I do like the use of 'hulking' we need to make it clear that it isn't height that is the problem - no 'case by case' short TW in women sports. No 'ahhh but X sports woman is 6'1" so Y TW should be allowed compete. Sports are separated by sex and humans cannot change sex.

Signalbox · 23/07/2024 19:37

I mean bloody hell I know it’s probably a bit uncomfortable to tuck when you are on a bicycle but one could put a bit more effort into hiding one’s manhood!

Womanhood! Bigot! 🤡

Codlingmoths · 23/07/2024 23:24

If you deplore competitiveness stay away from discussions about competitive sport maybe?? And if you don’t like doping you shouldn’t like male people competing in women’s races. Male people need to be told they can’t have anything they want. No one needs to tell this to female transmen, for obvious reasons.

I LOVE Deta’s forthright statements on this!

”I'm not playing against a man in a women's event”

Igmum · 30/07/2024 14:19

She is absolutely great. Come on World Darts, WTF are you playing at? #TeamDeta

Holy shit! The Angelina Carini situation!

Forfeited her Olympic final after being hit twice by one of the two athletes who failed a ‘gender test’.

She’s absolutely right to put her safety first. Shame on the Olympic Committee for putting her in this position.
