An urgent review is to take place. . The backlash must have been outstanding.

"Finally, our ongoing policy review will be independently assessed by experts in women affected by trauma and violence."

And I will believe that when we see it. I presume ‘experts’ will be selected by those groups with heavily invested interests.

I felt a slight optimism reading that - the first time women anywhere have been considered by the men who're removing our safety and rights. And then I read Helleofabore's comment and remembered that these men are in all the positions of power so they'll screw women over anyway.

Helleofabore · 29/01/2023 17:10

Sorry Mrs O…

This is wholly missing the point - all males have the potential to be a risk to women. This is particularly relevant in a custodial situation where the female prisoners can't get away from males.

We can't tell who is a bad yin - if we could then we could have mixed prisons for the nice people and then the one for bad yins.

Thhhhhiiiss!!!

no men in women’s prisons full stop

I don’t care if they’ve just nicked a pot plant, no men in women’s prisons! It’s not fucking difficult

WarriorN · 29/01/2023 17:16

Finally, our ongoing policy review will be independently assessed by experts in women affected by trauma and violence.

So, that would be rape crisis Scotland then? Run by a man who thinks he's a woman? 🤨

WarriorN · 29/01/2023 17:16

Edinburgh, sorry

Indiana2021 · 29/01/2023 17:18

Wonder if the representatives on the 'independent' expert panel will be made up of organisations directly funded by Scottish Govt?
Maybe a wee space on the end of the table for the all-knowing Susie McCabe too. She can be wheeled out to death stare and patronise anyone with concerns.
Alex Cole Hamilton and wee Patrick Harvey can stand and applaud.
What a time to be alive!

WarriorN · 29/01/2023 17:18

It will save a lot of time and money if they just listen to Julie Bindel on GB news earlier today.

Regarding any male in the female estate, she #justdontcare

Pot plant or not.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 29/01/2023 17:25

Go Julie Bindel!

Boiledbeetle · 29/01/2023 17:27

And...why the fuck didn't they deem any of the women housed with the men of such importance until one small dicked man in a vision of pink bright it all crashing down. I mean it's not like they aren't told. Repeatedly.

All the lies from Nicola. NoI ne had ever brought bad news to her. Well that's partly because Nicola wouldn't let them and bought the silence of women's groups through funding.

Apollo441 · 29/01/2023 17:29

They are hoping the storm will blow over and they can continue. Don't let it happen. The only acceptable outcome is no males in female prisons.

LakeTiticaca · 29/01/2023 17:30

Hallelujah someone is listening. I'm terrified for my granddaughters growing up with all.this crap

EvelynBeatrice · 29/01/2023 17:34

But… what about the women who don’t believe in gender ideology and see a trans woman as male …even someone lovely who has ‘ lived as female’ for twenty years and has no history whatsoever of violence . What about these women? If any born males are to be accommodated in the female estate , will they provide single sex wash facilities to spare these women from trauma, loss of privacy and dignity by being forced to be undressed with people they perceive as male? Surely both protected groups need to be accommodated. It’s not just about physical safety - I know my uncle George is zero risk to me, but I still don’t want to get my kit off in front of him…

DameMaud · 29/01/2023 17:35

"Predatory men are the risk to women. However, as with any group in society, a small number of trans women will offend and be sent to prison"

And good that this has been stated too.

For the love of god, they've probably have Mridul Wadwha on fucking speed dial.

Yup.

Shall we take bets?

AngeloMysterioso · 29/01/2023 17:38

ArabellaScott · 29/01/2023 17:08

What about the ones already in there?

That was my first question too.

PronounssheRa · 29/01/2023 17:39

The review would consider any history of violence or sexual offending against women, and any associated risk they pose

This suggests the prison service doesn't already have this information, or they do but have ignored it when deciding to place transwomen in the female estate.

So much for that robust risk assessment we keep being told about.

Exactly. I don't give a fuck if they feel like a woman, they aren't and never will be.

nilsmousehammer · 29/01/2023 17:57

Considering we were told that Bryson would bring the total of males in the Scots women's prison estate to 7: out of the other six...

One is Scott: at the end of a life sentence and too dangerous to be released, still multiply assaulting
One is Eastwood, who cannot be released, serving life for murdering a cell mate with a shoelace
One is Green, serving an 18 year sentence for murder, has been moved for inappropriate sexual activity with female inmates

It has come to light today that Dolatowski was one of those in the female estate (having battered a male inmate) with a history of sex offending against girls, and has been released.

These are the ones who have been 'risk assessed' as fine to pop in the female estate. Wtaf are the ones still in the male estate like?

Is this not creating a rather concerning implication that a lot of the males who are known to have been put in the women's estate were and are dangerous, violent and with a history of predation on women? We're not talking about the nice gentle one who's done a bit of fraud (and has had complete surgery) as the tv presenter talking to Julie Bindel was trying to paint a picture of.

"The review would consider any history of violence or sexual offending against women, and any associated risk they pose.

The spokesperson added: "Until the review is completed, any trans individuals, with a history of violence towards women, will only be admitted to the male estate, in segregation, when they first enter our care."

So they won't unthinkingly shove men in with women, they'll only do it after they've had a good think?

I'm sorry it would be much more efficient to continue segregating by sex, as has historically been the expectation. Save a lot of time and effort if you just put men in men's prisons!

ArabellaScott · 29/01/2023 18:11

nilsmousehammer · 29/01/2023 17:37

Sandy of Rape Crisis Scotland, who is most concerned about the threat these males pose to each other, but doesnt mention women.

Oh fuck not Mr Idul Wotnow!

BaroldNedmunds · 29/01/2023 18:29

It’s a step forward, but forgive me for wondering…….

The spokesperson added: "Until the review is completed, any trans individuals, with a history of violence towards women, will only be admitted to the male estate, in segregation, when they first enter our care.

…..why do they need a review? It’s seems quite straightforward. If you have/had a penis and a history of violence towards women, you can’t be sent to a woman’s prison.
