Evan Davis has just finished the PM programme. We had articles on the effect of Instagram on the restaurant trade, on Chat gpt and on wearing shorts in the winter.
Guess how long the article on Isla Bryson / Adam Graham ran for ...

I heard the item trailed and thought 'oh-oh..' but had to go out so missed it. Was it as awful as o suspect it was?

It was so bad that Evan Davis felt he had to get his excuses in quick before the complaints start getting picked up and reviewed:

He knew what he was doing. He needs to be sacked. He isn’t impartial. He is a complete misogynist. He is literally abusing women in a daily basis.

Some good replies on there! my god, it was a pre-recorded interview too so his excuse is pitiful. Definitely arse-covering as the complaints roll in.

CatOutOfTheGoldLameBag · 03/02/2023 00:05

I don't understand what he thinks he is excusing here: "tried hard not to debate JKR" Of course you didn't debate it, you took it as fact that she was transphobic you utter twat, and are now trying to cover your butt you lying asshat

Exactly. He wasn't trying hard not to debate her. He did nothing of the sort. No one mentioned even the smallest word that she's ever said or written. He just let those wankers baselessly call her transphobic.

There's no way on earth he would actually debate her. People might find out what she actually said.

Awful misogynist.

LongWhiteCar · 03/02/2023 00:14

Have just seen this thread.
I sent a complaint about Evan Davis to the BBC earlier this evening.
The segment was absolutely staggering in its bias.
Totally unchallenged by Evan Davis.
I hope JK Rowling is taking legal advice on it.

Nicky Campbell had an all male panel on his show yesterday with a bloke from the SNP spouting total tripe about the trans issue.
Sick to death of all of it.

inkjet · 03/02/2023 00:21

I remember him being just incredulous that someone might not consider a transwoman a woman and might call them he. I mean truly he couldn’t believe it and thought it was awful. It was a real wtf moment.

I think it doesn’t help that he always sounds so incredibly pleased with himself.

LongWhiteCar · 03/02/2023 00:31

I’ve requested a response to my complaint so I can hardly wait for those pearls of wisdom.
I used to enjoy having the radio on throughout the day and now I feel like I’m either shouting at the radio in anger, disbelief and frustration or writing emails of complaint.

Trust me, from my experience your response will be both unilluminating and infuriating. They will answer a question you did not ask, or reflect on a statement you did not make. But to be sure, the BBC will conclude with "this pre-recorded interview was conducted in a fair and duly impartial manner". The fuckers.

senua · 03/02/2023 10:10

I've had a reply to my original complaint about the lack of impartiality and failing to represent the diversity of their audience. They basically said:
-They have to make 'complex decisions' and they know that 'not everyone will agree with each decision'.
-It's OK because the story was 'featured prominently' elsewhere on the BBC. (Imagine the mental gymnastics involved in "we admit that we were the odd ones out but we still think that we are right".)

Translation seems to be:
-you are wrong, the BBC is right (listeners to Feedback will not be surprised at this common response)
-The PM programme is Evan's pick & mix. If you want full analysis of the news, Radio 4's early-evening current affairs programme is not the place to be.

Was that in the interview he did with Harry Miller back in 2020? That was a real wake-up call for me about Davis's blatant bias and lack of impartiality.

For those who don't recall the case, Miller (a former policeman) posted a series of tweets about reforms to the GRA and his belief that TW are not W. He was investigated for "hate incidents" and "transphobia" by Humberside police (who at one point turned up at his workplace).

The court found in Miller's favour, with the judge stressing "the vital importance of free speech". However, in Davis's interview with HM on 14/02/2020 he spoke to HM as if he was the guilty party, calling him anti-trans and obsessed several times. It was a truly dreadful interview by Davis.

Comments on this board from that time are interesting to read, particularly those from nauticant on 17/02/2020 at 11:29.

Davis has been sooo shite for so long. PM used to be a reasonably good news and comment programme. Sadly it now just utterly stinks of BBC bias.

Zeugma · 03/02/2023 11:58

Sorry, just interpolating to say to @ILikeDungs that my blood pressure also boiled over when I heard that interview…just wondering if you read the extremely good annihilation review of the book by Sarah Ditum? It was in the Times and findable on archive sites I expect.

There were also some cracking Twitter threads on the subject from the excellent lawyer Barbara Rich, which you can still turn up with a search. The truth of the matter became apparent very quickly once you got the facts straight.

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 03/02/2023 14:53

OMG, that Stacy bloke wanting a a competition of who gets called worse stuff! Bloody ridiculous.

On the plus side, one sure-fire way to peak casual listeners is to put transwomen on the radio and call them she/her. Those vocal chords haven't changed 'gender'.

A friend of mine, who I shall shortly be copying, nominated Sharron D for the leader women in sport thing and put 'because it will annoy Evan Davies' in the 'please give a reason' box.
Grin Grin

ILikeDungs · 03/02/2023 22:08

Thank you Zeugma and Clapham, will have a look.

I can remember an interview where Davis was faking (l hope) being utterly shocked and astonished not to mention horrified that anyone would say there were only two sexes. I bet he went home and chortled over that one that night.

ILikeDungs · 03/02/2023 23:36

No l may be misremembering, l think it may have been that he was aghast that someone said "sex is real". Whatever, still dangerous nonsense spoken as fact on national radio.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 04/02/2023 06:47

I see BBC have issued a non apology. Evan Davies ramming trans ideology down everyone’s ears whilst slandering a women deserves more than that. How much airtime does BBC give to this agenda??? More than 0.05% I imagine, totally pushing this agenda until mentally unwell girls cut their breasts off and mentally unwell boys become women haters and harassers.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 04/02/2023 06:50

Where is the apology?

AlliwantforChristmasisgu · 04/02/2023 07:45

I too remember an interview on R4, and I think it was with ED, when he expressed horror ‘are you really saying that [I can’t remember exactly but it might have been something like ‘people can’t change sex’]. I think it was to a politician, who played it back very calmly and said it is ridiculous that a scientific fact is made out to be the ludicrous choice.

All paraphrasing, but the general tone stuck in my mind.

ScrollingLeaves · 04/02/2023 10:32

*Where is the apology?

I was wondering too. Please would someone link the actual place where it can be found? Sorry if I have missed it.

senua · 04/02/2023 11:05

Not sure where the apology is but here is an article from the Scottish Daily Express which says "A BBC spokeswoman told the Scottish Daily Express: "This is a difficult and contentious area which we do try very hard to cover fairly and well on the BBC. However we should have challenged the claims more directly and we apologise that we did not.” "
Note the politician's weasel-words where they say that they try to "cover fairly and well on the BBC"; no mention of PM specifically, of their partiality.

ScrollingLeaves · 04/02/2023 11:10

Thank you Senua.
A better clearer apology needs to be put in a more widely distributed newspaper and on the radio.
