Evan Davis has just finished the PM programme. We had articles on the effect of Instagram on the restaurant trade, on Chat gpt and on wearing shorts in the winter.
Guess how long the article on Isla Bryson / Adam Graham ran for ...

Please sign and share this re: the Equality Act which needs updating to make clear the word ‘sex ‘ in the act is biological so exemptions in the act can be implemented to protect single sex spaces.

Everything is too muddied at present.

I have sent my complaint to the bbc and asked where the apology is as part of it.

Thank you for posting that. What clear article.

Missing Eddie Mair on PM. He'd have gone up one side and down the other of this issue.

Ugh me too. Come back Eddie!

Slightly off topic, but Evan Davis makes Dragon”s Den so frustrating to watch with his constant bloody mansplaining. Deborah Meaden will say something like ‘It’s not environmentally sound enough for me, so for that reason I’m out’ and then up pipes ED “the products lack of environmental credentials has put Deborah Meaden off investing’. I bloody know! I literally just watched her say that!

Well before he became so obviously disappointing on women's issues and single sex spaces I already was a bit cross with him about interrupting women he was interviewing. I haven't done a scientific study or quantified interruptions of men vs women, just sensed a mansplainy manner with female interviewees.

My email from the BBC:

"Thank you for getting in touch with us regarding the interview with Stacey Henley concerning J.K Rowling and a new Harry Potter game, broadcast on PM on Thursday 2nd February.

We do accept that there wasn’t sufficient challenge to the claims that were made and that we fell short here.

Clearly J.K Rowling has been at the centre of a lot of controversy for her views, and that has led some to call for the new game Harry Potter Legacy to be boycotted. We wanted to explore that debate among fans and it was not meant to be an examination of J.K Rowling’s position per se. Evan Davis has since tweeted that he should have made it clearer that Stacey Henley’s view of J.K Rowling is her own premise for boycotting the game and is heavily contested - ‘I think perhaps we got stuck because we were actually trying hard not to debate J.K Rowling or the substance of her views. We hadn’t intended or cast it that way.’ He did challenge the characterisation of her views being put forward by Stacey Henley, but we do agree this should have happened at an earlier stage during the discussion and could have been done more thoroughly.

This is a difficult and contentious area which we do try very hard to cover fairly and well on the BBC. However we should have challenged Stacey Henley more directly on her claims and apologise that we did not.

We do value your feedback about this. Senior members of the PM team have been made aware of your comments and we’ve included your points in our overnight report. These reports are among the most widely read sources of feedback at the BBC, and helps inform future editorial judgements."

It doesn't actually answer the point I raised as I didn't mention Stacey at all - my complaint was about Evan's bias and blatant misogyny - so I imagine everyone got the same cut and paste job.

faffadoodledo · 06/02/2023 16:29

Bingo! Same as my reply!

borntobequiet · 06/02/2023 17:00

And mine. Mealy mouthed tosh.
I’m going to complain about it.

nauticant · 06/02/2023 17:11

This is wrong. If they feel they made a mistake and need to apologise, this should be to their whole audience rather than confining it only to those who have gone out of their way to complain. They clearly feel they're in a corner and have to apologise but are doing it in a way which limits and minimises the apology. You don't do that if you're being sincere and are wanting to make amends.

senua · 06/02/2023 17:11

The man is gender ID obsessed. Apparently we are due another article today, about de-transition.

OP posts:
ValancyRedfern · 06/02/2023 17:45

Hoping (possibly in vain) the detransitioner interview tonight will provide some alternative views

nauticant · 06/02/2023 17:45

Here we go, Evan Davis does another trans segment on PM on Radio 4, this time on "detransition". Although I think the report might actually be about desistence.

nauticant · 06/02/2023 17:46

Evan Davis said: "we did trip up last week". And that was that.

Birdsweepsin · 06/02/2023 17:47

"Trip up" 🙄

lanadelgrey · 06/02/2023 17:48

Hey it’s bingo time but all the things we know about … peer pressure, autism diagnosis

nauticant · 06/02/2023 17:48

A young female clearly with ROGD, not long after a diagnosis of autism. At least she had a sensible mum.

Birdsweepsin · 06/02/2023 17:52

This mum's testimony is really good actually. Balanced. Thank god for sensible parents.

DoYouRememberTheInnMiranda · 06/02/2023 17:53

Really good and clear, helpful for someone in this mum's postition.

Awiltu · 06/02/2023 17:56

ED: "We tripped up last week and left listeners with the impression JKR is a raging bigot, but..."

The female detransitioner and her mother on now are incredibly articulate.

One can almost hear ED's clenched teeth as he attempts to question sympathetically.

nauticant · 06/02/2023 17:56

Blimey, Evan Davis has even invited the mum to comment on Conversion Therapy where, going by everything I've heard from trans activists, was clearly carried out on Ruby to Ruby's considerable benefit.

senua · 06/02/2023 17:59

I've missed the end of the piece because LW went to the shipping forecast.
Did ED say that they have covered a lot of Trans stuff recently including the effect of stuff on Trans' rights. No mention of the effects on women's rights.

OP posts:
lanadelgrey · 06/02/2023 17:59

Mum has raised all the big questions.
I wonder if ED was dragged to doing this piece by the editors to redress all the complaints of his bias. They can now hold this interview up as evidence of him being balanced

ValancyRedfern · 06/02/2023 18:00

That was actually great. Ruby and her mum had lots of time given to talk and they made so much sense. I'll be recommending listening to my affirming obsessed school!
