Why the current outrage about men in women's prisons?

BlueBooh · 26/01/2023 15:59

Don't get me wrong, it's about time the general public got angry.

But what about the rest of them?

I understand there is 168 of transwomen in women's prisons in England and Wales.

Why wasn't there this media attention about "Karen" White (England) or "Katie" Dolatowski. (Scotland). To name just 2?

What's changed?

Timing has changed, the UK have rejected Scotland's amendment.

Scotland aka Wee Jimmy Krankie said this was an attack on Scottish democracy, she was adamant there is no issue.

UK Government thought otherwise.

Then as if like a gift from God...rapist transwoman takes centre stage in Scotland, and was remanded to a female prison.

UK Government then oil the cogs of the mainstream media, get it to the top of discussions to prove their very obvious and valid point "there is a big issue, and here's why"

Senior Government officials couldn't have asked for better timing. All the noise Krankie was making, this has knocked the wind right out of her sails 😂

It's because the UK government has warned that it will overrule the Scottish parliament on gender self-ID. If Sturgeon gets her way, anyone will be able to legally change their gender in Scotland with virtually no effort. This of course will affect the rest of the UK too.

Sturgeon hopes the Scottish people will see this as Westminster oppressing Scotland, and rally to her party. But many Scots (nationalist or not) are appalled by her gung-ho genderism.

It's just chance that the rape case occurred at this moment, as a perfect illustration of why self-ID is a disaster.

Absolutely agree with this. I suspect this is the main reason for the media interest backed by Westminster.

The gags are slowly being lifted, people are allowed to talk about this now. It's still like wading through treacle but we're getting there. Just waiting for everyone else to wake up.

IwantToRetire · 26/01/2023 16:32

This is from an article in Inside Times which gives a bit more background on the figures re trans women prisoners (ie before this months addition)

" ... Out of 168 legally-male transgender women prisoners in England and Wales only six are in women’s prisons, according to the Ministry of Justice.

The figures highlight the impact of a rule-change in 2019 which made it harder for trans women held in male prisons to obtain a transfer to the female estate. The data was published in November, in the Offender Equalities Annual Report, but relates to the situation as it was in March 2022. ... "

insidetime.org/only-six-trans-women-in-womens-prisons/

But agree this is now being more publicly discussed because it fits the political agenda of some papers to make it headline news.

And lets face it, in terms of tabloids, this week's conviction of a (fe)male rapist is front cover gold.

😏😂

Why the current outrage about men in women's prisons?
NewFriday · 26/01/2023 16:38

Do we know what the others were convicted of?

No matter your view, the prospect of a rapist in a woman's prison is different to someone who hasn't committed violent crime against women. It's still all wrong, but it's not surprising that this case has received more attention, especially in view of what's gone on in Scotland recently.

Maybe this will be the turning point and the women involved can at least find that something comes from their suffering - though what a price to pay.

NewFriday · 26/01/2023 16:40

It's also possible that an opportunity to report on a possible NS downfall instead of what's going on within the Westminster government was too much to resist for some of the press.

I can give you a recent one!

6ft 5 “Katie” Dolatowski. Sexually assaulted a 10 year old girl in Fife. He's currently in Cornton Vale Women’s prison.

I followed some of the sexually assaulted female prisoner's case. I think l am remembering correctly that when the judge asked how many transwomen were in prison he was told the prison authorities did not know for sure, because if they had a GRA they were recorded as female.

Yes. this is it exactly.

It was outrageous but it was what really made some people take note. Because if the MoJ cannot track prisoners with a GRC for the purpose of protecting women, and cannot report these stats, then all the fucked up well meaning assurances meant nothing. Not a thing.

It was only then that it clicked with me, and maybe others, that a GRC seems to make these males untrackable and so many people were just ignoring the fact. And supposedly, males with a GRC are entitled to privacy regarding their GRC. It seems government departments including health cannot know the information, unless it is given by the person. That even there there is not interconnectivity with other government departments.

BlueBooh · 26/01/2023 16:45

“Sophie” Eastwood currently in the women’s wing at Polmont prison, Scotland. Murderer.

Want me to continue?

Jesus, why aren't journalists pressing NS on that one too?

Fuck knows @NewFriday! Fuck knows!

That's why I'm asking why the sudden media interest. Nobody gave 2 shits a few weeks ago!

"In response to a Freedom of Information request by the website Back into Society, the SPS disclosed that six trans prisoners have 'current or previous' convictions for sex offences."

Am assuming these 6 are the ones in women's prisons!

It's all smoking mirrors, no one seems to know!

This is what happens when you piss off the big boy political classes. The timing of this case is a gift to the Tory government and it is massively showing up Nicola’s hubris. I think she has made a misstep and I think there is about to be a perfect storm in awareness about the dark side of gender ideology.

Yes. Whilst I have no doubt about the sincerity of some MPs like Miriam or Kemi on this subject there's more going on here than just the government discovering how awful it is to put men in women's prisons.

Just as a reminder Crispin Blunt voted with the government re S35.

That would be Crispin Blunt who holds women who don't believe TWAW in the highest disdain and has always ignored any concerns raised over women's safety including in prisons.

BenCoopersSupportWren · 26/01/2023 17:24

Apologies if this was covered elsewhere in here, but the Lord Chancellor made a speech recently stating that national policy would be changed so that no transgender prisoner in E&W who retained their male genitalia and/or were convicted of a sexual offence would be placed in the female prison estate, without the express approval of the Secretary of State.

The SoS is Dominic Raab who, so far as I’m aware, is not normally minded to approve such requests.

MoJ policy is being updated currently and will be implemented over the next few months.

What makes it even worse is that Dolatowski was transferred out of Polmont after attacking a fellow male inmate there.

Sometimes a story just happens to have all the right ingredients at the right time and then it takes in a life of its own.

FigRollsAlly · 26/01/2023 18:47

Finally, a story the BBC, Sky etc couldn’t ignore. When it was “just” women prisoners being locked up with rapists they turned a cowardly blind eye for fear of accusations of demonising trans people but they had no choice but to report this one because of the massive political and constitutional implications.

TangledWebOfDeception · 26/01/2023 19:04

Gives me actual palpable rage. NOTHING’S CHANGED from a few days ago.

This should never ever have happened. The fact that it did, many MANY times, is an affront to humanity. Seriously.

Men are men, regardless of how they choose to identify. It does not change their sex. It cannot, it never will. They will always be male.

We told everyone it would happen, we told everyone this was going to be the natural conclusion. Over and over and OVER again.

As I keep saying: this is what we (the collective ‘we’) wanted, in real terms, so this is what we got. Nobody gave a flying fuck. Even now most people don’t know/don’t want to see/don’t care.

I hold every single politician, every single policy maker, every single lawmaker, every one of YOU in positions of power within institutions and organisations, personally, individually responsible. You perpetuated this, over and over again.

You, the CEOs of rape crisis centres, leaders of women and children’s refuges, ‘charities’, government bodies, the NHS. YOU DID THIS.

Yes excellent summary.

Like the PP it gives me the absolute rage too.

The poor woman who was raped in hospital, but gaslighted.

The young girls who have to go around in pairs or have parents pick them up from school because some old man likes to dress up in their school uniform as a school girl and hang round school gates. FUCK ALL IS DONE.

Media not particularly interested.

But mix it up with some politics and BANG suddenly it's everywhere!

CatherinaJTV · 26/01/2023 19:28

the outrage is engineered to distract from the fact that 99% of reported rapes never end in a conviction. How handy.
