Continuation of Thread 2.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

Have you guys seen this, from the beauty students thread in AIBU?

t.co/6R6FRhzHGg

I mean we know what happens, but to read it in the words of a woman put through it.

Any one who had a hand in this happening at any moment from conception of the idea to implementation should be in the cell next to Fucking isla and Fucking Tiffany! And on the other side the two 'women' those 40 ACTUALLY BLOODY VULNERABLE WOMEN had to be housed and showered and potentially beat, raped and murdered by.

Bastard Arsehole tossers

MavisMcMinty · 29/01/2023 15:31

Wow, those two GBNews interviews are brilliant, thanks! And I never thought I’d be saying that about GBNews.

CupofTeaAndsomeToast · 29/01/2023 17:10

Talking to my brother and he was telling me about a friend of his who was sectioned recently with mh issues. This friend told him that there was a young transman in the men's ward and the men were 'flocking to her'. Yeah, I bet they were too. The friend said there was no 'pee bottle' by her bed, which I'm guessing means no genital surgery. I'm appalled and wonder how this can be allowed.

Madamedefargelikescrows · 29/01/2023 18:37

The media who should be doing these interviews, etc are boiling my piss. I don't want to have to head to right-wing media, who I disagree with on the majority of their output, to get to see/read reality just because places like the BBC, in fact all terrestrial television and liberal print media refuse to face reality and at the very least allow conflicting opinions. I'm not saying that they all need to be TERFs now, but they need to accept that TERFs aren't bigots, that we don't hate TIMs and definitely not TIFs but that we are aware of the huge problems playing out right in front of our very eyes and we're scared and angry and want our media to acknowledge that and talk about our concerns. And, if a TRA refuses to debate with a woman then tough tit, they get no comeback, they don't get to be interviewed separately, they either play by the rules or they fuck the fuck off.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 29/01/2023 19:04

On the plus side, unlike Nancy Hopikns work 30 years ago, this was investigated openly and officially, and the results released.

On the minus side, nobody has actualy done anything about the problem in 30 years. www.science.org/content/article/women-scientists-famed-oceanography-institute-have-half-lab-space-men

Just a sec., I'm carrying out an experiment

Some experiments depend on the observer, but maybe that's what you're experimenting on.

I've had posts deleted, nothing of any consequence, so I've not really been arsed to chase it up with MN. I thought it was because of the Brook-Taylor acronym, but there are posts in this very thread that use it and seem to be fine. So I was wondering if the lowercase i was the problem.

Or maybe MN hates me and is trying to drive me insane!!

ErrolTheDragon · 29/01/2023 21:15

Read the guidelines, it depends on context. But mainly on whether someone reports a usage or not. Compare with terms like TERF or 'cis' - we can use them, by all means discuss them, but if anyone applies those terms to us and we report then they should be deleted.

IcakethereforeIam · 29/01/2023 21:23

No @ErrolTheDragon it's definitely the insanitySmile

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't an auto delete.

Gender Diverse Offenders in Canadian prisons, 44% of incarcerated tw are sexual offenders.

Trying to drive you?I

Thought you already were

I wonder what's going to happen in Canterbury at the next election. Will Rosie Duffield be de-selected and replaced with someone more "palatable" as a sop to the student vote? Because I think it was getting those voters out that got her elected. On the other hand, there's the non-student women's vote to consider.

I'm fairly sure I read that Rosie has already been re-selected by her CLP. With the wind very much behind Labour I can't see her losing Canterbury. Assuming she decides she wants to stay in a party that doesn't support her openly but where many do privately. I loathe cowardice. If they all stood together they'd be so strong but their fear really pisses me off. Yes I know they get horrible threats all the time I know that. But you can't let the bullies win you just can't. When you appease bullies they don't say thank you very much and go on their way. They demand more and more. There's no future in appeasement.

@Boiledbeetle insaner then, but I'm walking. Got to think of the planet. Because the Greens sure aren't. Amirite!?

well well well, Someone has been on a reporting binge on another thread . Someone is a hypocrite. Can't even remember what my first post this morning said but some of ones from yesterday are now gone. 🤔wonder who it could have been

MmePoppySeedDefage · 30/01/2023 12:39

Hmmm...

Here's a good example about why "risk assessments" are not (always) worth the paper they are written on. That poor girl:

https://twitter.com/stilltish/status/1619597737913204737?s=46&t=9__CcM41TnYt0tBqLGP-3A

Boiledbeetle · 30/01/2023 12:44

The report found that the authorities who decided to grant the man custody "over-relied" on old information which led them to believe that he posed a “relatively low risk to young girls”.

FFS.relatively low risk! That worked out well didn't it. Any risk and she shouldn't have been placed with him. Poor girl.

IcakethereforeIam · 30/01/2023 14:40

I've had a look at the Canadian Correctional thing I linked up thread. Like so many things in the Canadian justice system indigenous people are over represented, 47% of gender diverse. I know in this country 'looked after' children are over represented as identifying as trans. Perhaps if indigenous children are more likely to be from troubled families, abused or in care, that might be driving some of it. Clearly, I'm guessing.

Also, two bits that stood out. Don't know why the first is bigly.

What I'm taking from them is tw are very likely to have committed serious sexual offences against women or children. Some of the crimes resulted in the death of the victim.

There's a strong possibility that some of these tw have been moved to a women's prison.

They probably committed their offences when they were identifying as men.

No information as to how soon after being arrested that they discovered they were trans.

Canada is insane.

it strengthens the reason for the motivation behind prison onset gender dsyphoria

lifeturnsonadime · 30/01/2023 14:55

That Julie Bindel interview is amazing.

Nicola Sturgeon IS a disgrace to women.

As is Lisa Nandy of the Labour party has anyone managed to get her comments on rapists in women's prisons in the last week?

Tricyrtis2022 · 30/01/2023 16:12

Have we had this one yet? Almost spat my tea out when I first saw it.
