Continuation of Thread 2.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

I noted the BBC news (radio 3 version) has caught up with the 'police lose 700 sex offenders in 3 years' story. Never get much detail in that news slot but they did say that most of those who had fallen off the tracking system had changed their names.

Some seem to get through and others don't. I've not worked out the rule yet.

I think it's because it's not obvious from the irl what the link is, MNHQ want to check them out and may show the thread if they're legit. Which imo is an entirely good thing!

The marvellous Gender Pay Gap Bot is doing their thing on Twitter at the moment as just about every organisation in the UK changes their logo to pink for one day for International Women's Day. One particular example featured today was Sheerman and Sterling Law whose most recent reported gender pay gap is 52%.

I just looked at a Mumsnet census and saw this.

Why are they saying intersex? I thought even among people with DSDs, most are genetically male or female?

All intersex people with a DSD are male or female.

Indeed, many (most?) DSDs are sex linked - only 1 sex can have them.

Stonewall et al have a lot to answer for in terms of muddying critical thinking.

Steely Dan always reminds me of Brookside, and the late great Nancy Banks-Smith's wonderful assessment of it as "The Harrods, the Habitats, and the Hooligans'. There was a robbery, or something, and Mr Habitat wailed "They've stolen my Steely Dan records!"

Amen, mach. An original. Well, both of 'em, really. If you haven't seen it, there's a "classic albums" film on youtube about the making of Aja. I think it may be in several small bits, you how they do it. But it has some fab insights into their writing and, esp, their recording, and some of the dryest wit from Fagan. "Yes, that was in your very productive stylophone phase", deadpanned.

The twitter address atDaysGoByGoBy belongs to a detrans female (apparently moderates the Detrans sub-editor.

Have people on here realised that Vebrithien, who persuaded her daughter’s primary school to remove No Outsiders posters because it has ‘gender’ in place of sex, has now been turned on and threatened by the school for having started a What’s App Group bringing the whole matter to the group’s attention. It is very unpleasant. They say she has broken some school code; and seem to have threatened they could call the police for defamation.

Oh crikey that’s awful! Last time I looked at that thread it seemed like things were moving in a positive direction.

That's appalling. That said, while I'm sure they could call the police in for "defamation" I'm really not sure what the police could do seeing that there's nothing defaming about any of it. I doubt it would go anywhere but it's disgusting that they're threatening her. Her problem was never with the school but the stupid bloody posters.

Defamation is civil law, not criminal. Nowt to do with the police.

The courts won’t allow a defamation case unless the person or org defamed can prove that the statements made were untrue (and known to be untrue by the person who made them) and that the person or org has been seriously harmed by resulting reputational damage.
