Continuation of Thread 2.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

They introduced it as a topic the week before last and the week before that, but didn’t take any callers. Haven’t listened to this week’s yet, very disappointing to hear they’ve ignored it again.

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 11/02/2023 19:07

It does appear to be deliberate although obviously, I'm not going to go full-on conspiracy about it.

I was pretty annoyed with it today - not because I wanted to be part of the show but because I wanted it discussed - that they went with the fucking death penalty palaver which is s total dead cat story. Yes, you can get someone to ring up and be all "you bloody liberals, stop telling us that we can't want to murder people who are murderers even if maybe they weren't murderers, it's our right to do what we want and Lee Anderson speaks for us working class bastards, don't you know!" (and they did). They only had about five minutes of it which could have been given over to something far more important.

Of course, the majority of the show was taken up with fighter planes to Ukraine and that was hardly surprising because men really like talking about big bomby planes and blah but to not even give a few minutes to the whole gender recognition bollocks was hugely frustrating. I've decided that I'm going to put together a well-written and coherent response to the subject and have it ready to use every week that gender recognition or men in women's prisons or men in women's spaces or whatever comes up. If it keeps being pushed to one side then ... well to be honest I don't know what that means/what to do, but I'm going to keep trying.

CyanCrystalViolet · 11/02/2023 20:00

I’ve just listened and came here to say that the whole programme was essentially about men. Male wars, males and weapons, male leaders, male politician banging on about the death penalty (Brexit take two?), male caller patronising Anita Anand… who cares about the rights of women and girls eh? It’s not even worth a measly five minutes.

I really hope you get on next week @NotDrowningJustCrowing, you’re braver than I am.. I’m not good on the spot. I’m tempted to email the programme to ask why they haven’t taken a single call about the GRA despite introducing the topic three times now.

Today’s Times front page. The first one already has a thread, not sure about the second but putting them here in case anyone missed them.

I wonder whether the Guardian will review a book by a BBC journalist about a UK medical scandal. 😶

“None of the big publishing houses would take it,” she says. “Interestingly, there were no negative responses to the proposal. They just said, ‘We couldn’t get it past our junior members of staff.’ ”

When - and why - did become so scared of saying no to people younger and more junior than they are? It makes no sense.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 12/02/2023 10:04

some people prefer censorship to the truth if the latter conflicts with their ideology

I wonder who Hadley could be referring to there ....

They’ll leave it to the Observer.

That way it’ll be on the website, but the Graun staff will be able to bat away TRA criticism by pointing at the Observer.

Well, I had a look, but couldn't find anything on it, but did find a story about the elusive Giant Willow Aphid!

There seems to be nothing more recent than the piece from the 20th of last month, which was linked to on MN, on several threads.

I finally got round to watching Adult Human Female last night and it's even better than I thought it would be. I came away from it thinking that Stonewall are not just a bad faith organisation but verging on, for want of a less emotive word, evil.

It’s truly sad. From Brianna’s Instagram account it looks like they only transitioned 3/4 months ago. All the Insta stories are super heavily filtered and wearing tiny anime style skirts and knee socks.

Can we not?

ShireWifeofNigelFarage · 12/02/2023 22:28

Can we not what?

Not talk about the online culture that’s funnelling vulnerable kids into dangerous scenarios?

What destroyed this kid's life were the sick bastards who ended it. Being trans or not doesn't give someone the right to kill them, does it? It's really fucking sinister to suggest otherwise.

ExiledElsie · 12/02/2023 22:47

The killers are to blame for ending this life. Absolutely awful waste of a young life.

No, can we not pick apart the Instagram page and clothing choices of a poor kid who’s just been murdered? Jesus wept.

Kucinghitam · 13/02/2023 05:25

That is horrible horrible news. Poor kid.
