Continuation of Thread 2.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

He's dead now. (I didn't kill him.)

Death by wanking?

Rightsraptor · 10/02/2023 12:40

If where the prostate is 'is on a spectrum' I pity the surgeons & radiologists, and indeed the patients, who are dealing with prostate cancer.

Where to start? Should the surgeon open the chest cavity in case it's there? Should the radiation be aimed at the neck or one of the feet, just in case that's the location?

If only we had a way of telling.

Re:Rishi and changing the prison rules - that is a step in the right direction, but according to a Swedish Study men with gender reassignment surgery still had the same male-pattern violence as ordinary men. So not having genitalia, or not having committed a sexual crime would not on its own make a man safe for women.

Mightn’t the court of human rights challenge this discrimination on the grounds of genitalia? I thought that was why it was not made a requirement for a GRC.

This is deeply disturbing

I’m incredibly particular about tradespeople in my flat and will do my best to find a female. This man works for the council so the women he visits don’t even get a choice. My blood ran cold reading it.

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 11/02/2023 00:37

I feel a bit sorry for her because she can't see how awful this is. He is some serious crimes just waiting to happen.

Kucinghitam · 11/02/2023 06:46

Interesting, both for the anecdotes and for the apologists.

There’s a ratio developing for poor old Maggie Chapman who has chosen to tweet about Internationally Day of Women and Girls in Science. My favourite response so far:

Some very fragrant lady scientists there. You go girls!

The Metro post-transes another historical figure, complete with "they" proning.

metro.co.uk/2023/02/10/distinguished-soldier-and-spy-europes-first-openly-transgender-person-18237209/

Born male in 1728, Charles-Geneviève-Louis-Auguste-André-Timothée d’Éon de Beaumont...

Charlotte earned money through fencing matches in which they regularly beat male opponents.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 11/02/2023 10:08

I wonder what the gay men who repeatedly scold us for the 'homophobia' of GC views would make of this?

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 11/02/2023 10:09

(SEEN is a new staff network for the civil service and other public bodies.)

SqueakyDinosaur · 11/02/2023 10:15

I dont think it's fair to say that the Chevalier d'Eon has been retrospectively transed S/he (and I genuinely don't know which pronoun to use) appears to have had some physical characteristics of both sexes, which in the medical climate of the time can't have been medically induced. You can tell the story both ways - either a James Barry narrative of a young woman with pronounced masculine characteristics who eventually reverted to living as a woman, or a young man and vice versa.

SqueakyDinosaur · 11/02/2023 10:15

And I wouldn't suggest Metro as a source of historical information!

mach2 · 11/02/2023 10:17

Aye, true!

Ginmonkeyagain · 11/02/2023 10:52

Yeah I suspect the Chevalier D'Eon may well have been trans if alive today.

However it is always a fools errand to try and apply modern day sensibilities to the past. For example we cannot fully know the motivations of the men who took part in some of the rituals in Molly Houses in the Georgian period - eg cross dressing, mock births, adopting female names. Were they trans or just keen to act out a family life they could not have with the person they found attractive/loved.

mach2 · 11/02/2023 11:02

I think it's the they/themming of a figure from the past that annoyed me the most.

ShireWifeofNigelFarage · 11/02/2023 12:24

Do you think this means an identical thread could exists in chat/AIBU?

I've called Any Answers on the gender reform bill. I'm waiting to see if they get back to me.

ExiledElsie · 11/02/2023 14:04

I missed any questions this week, was there a question on it?

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 11/02/2023 14:56

Yep, it was in Scotland so it came up. Lots of "the most vulnerable group in society". I am surprised and shocked that the gender reform bill didn't make its way to Any Answers. Obviously I'm not. I'd have happily not been picked if they'd just covered it but it was mostly should we give bombers to Ukraine with a little bit of Lee Anderson and the nonsense about the death penalty at the end. It seems that gender reform just isn't important enough. Ever.

Probably Any Answers just wouldn’t want certain things to be discussed due to internal censorship. There was a thread a few weeks ago about a whistleblower in the BBC saying there is a LGBTQ board within the BBC with right to veto anything going out.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/02/2023 15:14

Huh. We had the radio on for a few minutes in the car and heard the intro to Any Answers, I'm sure it implied the ramifications of the GRR debacle re independence would be discussed.
