Kathleen Stock article about Jack Monroe

Kathleen Stock writes:

Monroe responds by blaming these critical points on Kathleen Stocks GC views.

I don't think that's fair. I think Monroe is using that as an excuse to try and avoid criticism.

Her publisher has had to release a statement about the dangerous tips in Monroe's New Book and Trussel Trust are refusing to hand it out over safety fears.

I don't think it's right or fair for Monroe to try and hide behind being Non binary or trans etc. She hasn't claimed those identities for ages has she?

It's worse than just not showing interest in taking him anywhere.

If we believe her account (I know, I know) he regularly reads her Twitter and at one point she was planning to make him her social media assistant- so he reads the plans of wild camping, of using her non booze money to take him on loads of trips including last summers plans.

if we don't believe he has access to Twitter etc then she's creating a parallel world where she likes to taunt imaginary Twitter accessible SB with what she could be doing for him - wtf?

and finally, he will at some point be aware of all of those tweets and her actual behaviour in action.

Teatime55 · 13/01/2023 23:44

Who knows as everything is literally a lie anyway. I very much hope he in fact lives with his dad.
Disgraceful if she has spent thousands upon thousands on nothing and not even taken him on a proper day out.

He also reads of her 6 hour sh*gathons with random burger delivery men , and about her spending the evening "giggling" because someone in her social group has referred to her boobs as "perky blinders". Should any mother want her child reading that sort of thing?

I really hope it's all performative BS, because this is incredibly damaging to him. I wonder what sort of a time he has at school, because other children will see this, too.

She reminds me of my ex. Regardless what evidence I have of his untruths, he is always able to spin it to have an alternative set of 'facts'. It's a true talent.

She is able, I believe, to convince herself of whatever she is saying in the moment.

This week we had: bath filled with coins / bath actually filled with foam & only a layer of coins; not able to get up the stairs in her 'bungalow' due to arthritis / it's a dormer bungalow, natch, so that makes sense; I'm buying my lovey LL a gift for her kindness - even tho previously I wrote she forced me to stay in a house I couldn't afford, that Jack described as a shithole / no, it wasn't a shithole, just Jack's life was shitty, and it wasn't the LL, it was the letting agent, and she said sorry anyway.

It's exhausting. She lies from morning to night.

AlexCabot · 14/01/2023 09:13

Jack claims that because of her (self diagnosed) autism she LITERALLY cannot lie.

So clearly it's everyone else who's wrong.

Emotionalsupportviper · 13/01/2023 21:32

I think she's angling for someone to offer her the use of their holiday cottage.

It was v thinly veiled and the offers have flooded in!

But, as a pp said, it's weird that no one has said, "you're sleeping on a sofa and can't do stairs because of your medical problems...you say a smaller space will help because mobility is so hard ..but you can also envisage wild camping, hiking on uneven moorland etc..."

Someone tweeted something:
It's not Jack, it's the Tory press.
It's not Jack, it's the trolls.
It's not Jack, it's the transphobes.
It's not Jack, it's the Homophobes.
When will people realise that's it's actually all Jack?

I have to agree really. I know she has a lot of followers, i doubt they're all real, but if there's a lot of people saying there's something dodgy and her stories make no sense, how can people still believe all those people are lying but Jack isn't?

It's like when one of your circle.of friends gets with a bad in and you all tell her he's a bad in but instead she believes him and not the 10 people saying be careful.

Yes.

My DS and DIL are young and very fit and have done wild camping - and it's far from just a walk in the park, particularly at this (cold, wet, horrible) time of year. It's physically very taxing even in good weather.

It always amazes me that someone whose bones are apparently visibly crumbling is able to haul sideboards from one side of the sh*tty bungalow to another.

I suspect that the one person happier than Jack about her moving into her (tiny, one-bedroom, pixie-sized) forever home is her LL!

knittingaddict · 14/01/2023 10:42

One thing I don't understand is how good her Amazon reviews are for her books. I suppose people who actually buy them are going to also buy into the idea that JM is a food hero. Maybe they also aren't buying the book to cook from, so don't realise how awful the recipes are. That's the only explanation I can think of.

Emotionalsupportviper · 14/01/2023 10:52

I imagine that all of her little Flying Monkeys are writing them, @knittingaddict .

She actually tweeted asking her followers to leave positive reviews because the trolls, haters and obsessives would doubtless be leaving "false" one-star ones. Cue, doubtless, a rush of sycophants praising it to the skies - probably without even having seen the book. (Her sales figures don't seem to be suggesting that even all of her followers are buying it).

MorvenOfMalvern · 14/01/2023 11:07

Where is this going? Where does it end?

It just has unhappiness and disaster all over it

I suspect some her 550k dropped £10 on it just to review it and they include words like 'cant wait to try the recipes' or 'useful hacks'
I also think a company as huge as Pan Macmillan will have people paid to leave reviews or they'll send free books in exchange for 5* reviews etc.

i generally try to only believe Amazon reviews with photos of the product tbh

I often leave reviews but never leave a photo. You can download a photo off the internet if you wanted to - it doesn't prove anything.

Latest update from Awfully Molly, condensing the latest. It's all the more shocking when put altogether.

She's such a disgrace.

category12 · 14/01/2023 21:24

It's a good read.

Caulidop · 21/01/2023 20:20

Sorry to jump in on a previous thread, but does anyone know what has happened to Awfully Molly? All content down- I went to share the JM blogs with a friend but nothing to share 🙁

TheClogLady · 21/01/2023 20:39

no idea but Brendan at Spiked wrote a blistering piece about JM - bumping this thread reminded me to add it:

Yes, she did put up an announcement post first to say she was going to close it all down.

She said it want due to legal action or threats but because she just didn't want to do it all any more. She explained that it took a lot of time and money and constant upgrades to website etc.

She shared some more info about herself and said she was not ashamed or secretive and that most people who knew her irl knew it was her etc.

Caulidop · 21/01/2023 20:56

Thank you for the update. I'd saw before that she had updated to address challenges but not seen that she was planning to take it down.
Thanks for the Spiked link too!

EarringsandLipstick · 21/01/2023 21:08

AM has archived the content on a Wordpress site - the link is on the original blog.

I did a search to find out more; on Tattle there's a fairly harsh critique of AM. I don't usually read Tattle but that's probably par for the course there.

AnonWeeMouse · 22/01/2023 10:24

I see Monroe has again hinted at self harm and locked her account for a few minutes before unlocking it again.

"I can't do this anymore" type tweets at first glance might seem to be her struggling etc, but when you look at all her behaviour, it's designed purely to get attention from the little yes people that follow her around SM. It works as well. People tag in Nigel's Lawson, Publisher and the police.. Jack just sits and watches, lapping it up.
It's disgusting and manipulative behaviour.

I feel like I’ve seen this exact scenario before. Gets criticism and then starts drip feeding about serious illness and suicide.
she’s a terrible person.

category12 · 22/01/2023 11:05

I don't understand why she doesn't just quit twitter (or alternatively start using it more professionally), if it's this source of terrible trolling and bad mh for her.

She barely promoted her own book. She said something like "can we discuss the recipes yet?" but never did.

If you compare her tweeting to other food writers, it's just a horrible mess. Whereas if you look at Nigella's, it's lots of lovely pictures of food. Jamie Oliver: food, media appearances, campaigns. I know they're more successful/well-known and probably have people managing their social media, but it's not actually that hard to post recipes or pictures when you've just brought out a book, so presumably have all the material at your fingertips.

She was complaining that she's "sofa-surfing" (in her own home), yet she's previously explained she's got bedrooms she's not using, (moved her son from his room into hers). All of it theatrically practising for a downsize. Does she forget she only confessed to a shopping/alcohol/tramadol addiction the other week where she bought tons of furniture? And we're supposed to just pat her on the head and say oh you poor thing?

Teatime55 · 22/01/2023 11:39

Yes you are. She wants a clap for doing basic adult things quite often.
I think Twitter is a huge source of income for her so she can’t quit it. I think she’s actually made quite a good income over the years, even if she pretends she hasn’t. She doesn’t use any other SM so if she quit she would have no engagement.
I mean she could use it professionally of course. I think to me it seems clear she has little interest in food/cooking anyway though. It’s just a career she’s been stuck with and she’s too lazy/disinterest to do anything else.

I think she has very few talents at all, but she feels entitled to be a celebrity. If her blog, which was based on lies to begin with, hadn't caught on, she'd likely be working at one of her dad's friends businesses.
