Monroe responds by blaming these critical points on Kathleen Stocks GC views.

I don't think that's fair. I think Monroe is using that as an excuse to try and avoid criticism.

Her publisher has had to release a statement about the dangerous tips in Monroe's New Book and Trussel Trust are refusing to hand it out over safety fears.

I don't think it's right or fair for Monroe to try and hide behind being Non binary or trans etc. She hasn't claimed those identities for ages has she?

Coming back to the tuna tin thing - the necessity or otherwise of egg rings aside - has she actually looked at a tuna tin recently? You can’t ‘open’ the bottom anymore. The bottom is now curved/moulded; you would need a hacksaw to cut the bottom off. Then there is also a sort of plastic lining which I guess isn’t suitable for heating.

There was another thread on here recently which got deleted at the OP's request where someone who knows about this stuff said that the coating of cans is massively toxic when you heat it.

So it's impossible, dangerous, difficult to get off (how do you remove a metal ring from a pan without burning yourself?) and pan ruining.

Plus entirely pointless.

I'm a very keen cook and own lots and lots of pretty esoteric kitchen equipment. An egg ring isn't one of them.

picklemewalnuts · 08/01/2023 19:08

I fancied one. I bought some, but they turned out to be far too small.

I want one so I can reliably get 4 eggs in a pan.

£9 and no fingers at risk?

Disclaimer - have no idea if it's any good 😂

I have 2 egg rings (I have no idea why). When I tried them the egg just ran out underneath, so I ended up with normal shaped fried eggs with rings stuck in them. Should get rid of them, but it feels as if they ought to be useful for something. Just not for cooking eggs

Could have a go at doing Jack's marmite crumpets in them like Andy Lynes 😂

I took a dose of 2 of tramdol once. I was given it after a miscarriage i think.

I remember how the fug was enveloping and cosy and calling me, and I basically didn't surface til the following day. Realised I could never ever take one again.

What taking loads must do to you is unimaginable, but it cannot be in any way compatible with a normal life and active responsible parenting.

I have read that they possess a street value, so they certainly are not harmless.

Tram became controlled drugs in 2014 due to being the third highest cause of OD; took me all of 30 seconds to find that out. Any meds she claims she takes for any ailments never match up with treatment protocols.

So either she was buying them illegally, and that’s why her child was starving and didn’t have shoes that fit, or she’s lying.

There is also zero chance she was Dx with ASD at 11 and “wasn’t told” - my own child has ASD and the process is lengthy, involves multiple professionals and appointments. She also claims an Ed Psych Dx her - untrue, they’re not qualified. Neither is the GP which she also claimed Dx her.

So that’s 3 variations of just that one ailment Hmm

She gives me whiplash.

Is anyone accusing him of being antifeminist? Or lowering himself?

He's pretty explicit in his criticism there!

I'm v inexperienced with any sort of alcohol or substances but have had both tramadol and codydramol once and known immediately from both that they had the potential to be addictive and affect you significantly.

I get that once reliant and addicted you can tolerate more than the average but even so.

Not with tramadol. It’s a controlled drug for that very reason.

Yes. Women are held to higher standards in so many ways. I catch myself doing that once in a while.

It says in the article she was diagnosed with autism at school. But who knows if that’s true?

The problem with her autism diagnosis is like everything else there are contradictions.

The first story is that she was diagnosed aged 12 when an educational psychiatrist came and visited her at home. Educational psychiatrists don't exist (if I was feeling generous I could just say she mistook it for an educational psychologist) and her parents kept the info from her.

Anyone who has had a child tested for autism know that the process is a long one involving multidiciplarian teams.

The second autism backstory is that she visited a GP in her 20s who said she had 99% of the signs of classic autism. Again, autism isn't diagnosed by GPs but either psychiatrists or psychologists and again it is a fairly long process.

The first mention of autism was after Greta had called autism her superpower and she then wrote an article in The Guardian saying that her autism is a superpower which means she has savant like abilities in the kitchen.

She uses the worst stereotypes of autism, the majority of autistic people find terms like savant offensive. She basically uses her self diagnosed autism as an excuse.

I do believe she does have ADHD because a lot of her behaviour patterns fit. She uses it as an excuse though for poor performance and being a general train wreck.

AnonWeeMouse · 08/01/2023 22:43

I am at a point now where I am horrified by her behaviour and horrified that she's so happy to admit that she was on drink and drugs and wasting thousands whilst her child was suffering and not eating as well as he should be.

I hope that the boy was at his dad's 99% of the time.

I'm also horrified how people can still defend her and still tweet about how great she is. They are defending and excusing and enabling absolutely appalling behaviour. I don't get how they can do it, it makes my brain flinch.

Oh good god 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I do somewhat wish everyone would stop giving her attention. She craves it. She doesn't care what lies she's caught out on or how she mortifies herself. It's all worth it to her for the notice.

Can you imagine that memoir?!?!

Yes. Women are held to higher standards in so many ways. I catch myself doing that once in a while.

Me too. Definitely.

I just find it interesting that there were several posters criticising KS earlier in this thread but the male columnists David Brown (Times) Simon Hattenstone (Guardian) and now Andy Lynes (Cookbook Review) have all been far cattier and outright accusatory but not received the same opprobrium. The general consensus is they have a point (or many) and the right to state them. But KS mild take was pulled apart far more (of course she is in the title so there's that too).

I really feel for KS - she's in a lose-lose situation a lot of the time. Even on a feminist thread.

A memoir? Will it be like a choose-your-own-adventure?

It'll be an odd book.

Chapter 1 A - In this version I quit school.
Chapter 1 B - in this version I was kicked out.
Chapter 1 C - in this version I was home schooled.

Chapter 5 A - I did sex work
Chapter 5 B - I did cleaning in a brothel
Chapter 5 C - I walked passed a strip club once, popped in for a pee.

It'll be a book with infinite possible combinations of timelines. Jack Monroe and The MultiVerse Of Bullshit.

It increasingly feels that the only people interested in reading it will be those wanting to spot and discuss the inconsistencies.

I wonder if the publisher is worried at all after the last few days

This is another wonderful review of the book. The poor author knows a lot about cooking and actually tried to make some of the recipies.

Patreon make it difficult to do so. I’ve had to click through 6 pages before, it said confirmed unsubscribed and then the next month, they’ve tried to take payment again (not JM), and it’s listed as active on my profile. Patreon don’t have a way for anyone to contact them to sort the issue out.

The point is, she attacks and blocks anyone who asks for a refund. I’d like to see Patreon mass refund everyone. But they won’t, they leave it upto the creator

That isn't my experience. I've had numerous subscriptions over the years and the unsubscribe process was incredibly easy.

Was it as easy as the creator pausing it?
