While critics shouted “shame on you” at the MSPs. One woman lifted their skirt and showed what initially appeared to be her genitals.

The woman shouted, “if you are not going to be decent, I am going to be indecent.”

However, it later transpired that she had been wearing some form of fake pubic wig.

According to the Scotsman, police did not arrest the individual immediately, however, the force has since received complaints and enquiries are ongoing.

Oh, and one more thing - women protesting by flashing their boobs (often with slogans written across their chests) don't stand there looking at themselves and jiggling them, caressing them in public like the bloke did recently, very pleased with themselves. Generally because security is trying to drag them away from what they're protesting.

Another difference between men and women's protests I guess.

Both are illegal as indecent exposure. That’s how they’re similar. I know you think the penis is “an instrument of power” but most people do not belong to a phallic worshipping cult.

My understanding is that power over the victim is the point for flashers. They want to shock, and have an affect. That's why they usually target very young or very old victims. (Think I heard that on 'It's a fair cop', so it must be true!)

Anyway, I was flashed when I was 14.

I'm lucky never to have experienced sexual assault. But of course I've been grabbed and jokily held (which pushed home that I could never fight off a man), groped, flashed at, voyeured when I went to the toilet, cat-called, wolf-whistled, and felt afraid when walking alone and seeing a man. I believe that most women have experienced most of those, but I don't really know because we just shrug it off - and don't mention it because it feels a bit shameful. And I genuinely think that most men have no idea, and so don't understand why we're protective of our single-sex spaces.

I have read bits of this thread over night. There is much fuckwittery here.

That is not the signs of a deranged woman delivering a failed or even ‘estoteric’ protest (as a poster on another thread tried to assert). This was part rallying call, delivered by a woman who wears a vagina suit or a vulva suit for work, and part protest of a woman who delivered a shock that was not actually indecent that would capture attention.

Or maybe, just maybe those who thought this was ‘indecent’ actually thought that she showed her ‘vagina’ or even her ‘vulva’ because they have not ever brought themselves to understand female anatomy. That someone would think that would be a woman’s natural pubic hair (still showing a lack of knowledge about the real female lived experience in this era of pornification) is remarkable.

Almost as remarkable as the article saying she exposed her ‘genitals’! Plus they seemed to have missed the multiple facets of this particular action.

The shock value was that she lifted her skirt.

That she was fully covered means people are talking about her words, not her arousal at the fact she urinated on herself while dressed as the opposite sex. Not that she stripped naked and played the piano with her fully exposed genitals. Not that people who will have been traumatised by being told to ‘suck trans dick!’. Not that she physically assaulted someone by violence. Certainly not a protest with a baseball bat painted with the trans flag. Or a group of people blocking access to a film or a seminar or a debate.

No. She, a woman and all the symbolism of women doing this in the past, actually lifted her skirt and showed the world …. a merkin! Then delivered a statement that was talking about how the government just treated vulnerable women.

By also symbolically making herself vulnerable! A fact that most women will have subconsciously picked up on even if it took time to process it.

No. As an adult human female, I understood her action, even if I didn’t know the historical significance. It is not hard to understand this.

Posters also seem to ignore that the women were checked at security for wearing the very hateful haberdashery. I doubt her known vagina outfit would have been allowed into the gallery.

A woman lifting her skirt is NOT doing this from a position of POWER as a man does to show their fucking penis!!!!

Fuck!! That this needs to pointed out on a feminism chat board.

There is the historical context of defiance.

There is also the symbolism here that this brave woman was absolutely reminding the world of the basis of women’s oppression!!

Her very female body!!!!

She was not arousing herself by doing it! There was no sexualised element here.

How bizarre has this movement become that this woman’s protest has been sexualised the way it has? That a woman showing a merkin has been depicted as a sexual act is fucked up.

That you (general ‘you’) might consider it crass, fine. That you cannot understand the symbolism is also more about ‘you’ as a person than about Elaine.

Yes, she did it ‘after’ the announcement of the votes!
FFS.
Who the fuck would think this would work as a protest BEFORE the vote?
That indeed would be a mistimed protest and the impact of anger at the vote would have been lost.

Maybe that is what some posters would have wanted though.

Only because of the anti female posters a) not getting it or b) sticking the knife in, as per.

Some people cant help seeing anything connected to female genitalia any other way.

That is, decent men - which is actually most men- genuinely have no idea. Because they wouldn't behave that way. They really don't like thinking about it because the whole idea of being aggressive to women is so uncomfortable to them - which actually isn't very helpful.

The problem is that a single sexual predator endangers lots of women. They have a really disproportionate impact.

It's why the argument that 'there are only a few transwomen in women's prisons' is such a dangerous false argument. Single sex spaces need to exclude all men, otherwise they don't work. Of course NAMALT. Neither are all transwomen. But it doesn't need to be all, it just needs to be some. And some are.

Exactly. You wouldn't argue that it was all fine because there are only a few supply teachers who are pedophiles.

On thank God@Helleofabore having returned from her Christmas travels, and hopefully well rested, has returned to save you all from my duck pics and opens with what she does best.

And........it's turns out @Helleofabore does most of her amazing posts on her bloody mobile phone. No CSI hacker multi screen, massive CPU, press one button to destroy everything if the perimeter is breached set up like we've all imagined.

Her phone! Just her phone!

Mind blown.

WandaWomblesaurus · 27/12/2022 09:56

"Maybe that is what some posters would have wanted though."

I think we know some of the posters here want fully intact rapists in women's prisons and for the rest of us to turn a blind eye and to be kind and definitely NOT protest with a bit of fake fur over some tights because they don't understand what the protest means.

Or they think that protesting can take another form (filling in forms maybe?)

I think the problem is Elaine didn't go far enough in the scale and size of the merkin. It should have been a giant rainbow merkin complete with muppet eyes.

Helleofabore · 27/12/2022 10:35

I have enjoyed the duck pics boiled. Not as much as your ‘Dino with tampons’ drawing though.

I think these recent ducks are far too tasteful, so I'm going to lower the tone by discussing duck-related current affairs. No merkins were involved, unfortunately, so you can see one protestor's genuine genitalia.

6th September 2022
Trans activists left over 60 bottles of piss outside the offices of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) on Friday afternoon to protest the government watchdog’s policy on trans access to public facilities.Masked representatives of the anonymous group Pissed Off Trannies (POT) ceremonially delivered the urine to the EHRC offices in Westminster, London and staged what they described as a “piss-in”.
One member pissed herself in her bejewelled gown, before pouring bottles of urine on herself and the pavement outside the building, all the while shouting: “The EHRC has blood on its hands and piss on its streets”.
The activist, speaking to VICE on the condition of anonymity, described the dramatic action as “an extreme version of the public embarrassment that trans people experience on a daily basis, using the toilet that either doesn't fit with their gender or using the one that does, and then facing the backlash of people's judgement”.From that beacon of trans-inclusiveness, Vice

That is a perfectly adorable transprotester pouring his and other people's piss over himself with his small, very small, package showing in the wet dress.

But that was perfectly OK because the protester was protected by the shield of the letter 🌂

FrancescaContini · 27/12/2022 11:08

They poured urine over themselves deliberately and publicly to protest at how “embarrassed” they feel at having to use the toilet that is correct for their sex? Does anyone else see the paradox inherent in their method of protest here?!

Quite.

I would be embarrassed to be stood there pouring urine over myself in the first place.

I mean…. Yuck

OmiOmy · 27/12/2022 11:10

What a piss taker.

Great story to tell people. "....and then I just tipped the bottle of piss over myself. Hahaha. Im mad, me". Cue silence.

The original was sacrificed. It was the only thing to hand as the cat started to throw up as he sat on the rug. I have perfectly good wooden floors that he can throw up on, but no always the rugs.

But I do always like a compliment, who doesnt? So for your entertainment

The poor people who would have had to clear away and dispose of the 60 bottles of these piss-takers’…piss, left outside in a public place. How disgusting.
