While critics shouted “shame on you” at the MSPs. One woman lifted their skirt and showed what initially appeared to be her genitals.

The woman shouted, “if you are not going to be decent, I am going to be indecent.”

However, it later transpired that she had been wearing some form of fake pubic wig.

According to the Scotsman, police did not arrest the individual immediately, however, the force has since received complaints and enquiries are ongoing.

What an intriguing thread.

I see mention of the police. Maybe it's possible that there will be more stringent measures in place as it took place in Holyrood rather than outside, but that's not what's worrying me.

No, I'm more bothered by Elaine's professional body taking action against her. I think she's had problems with them before and I suspect they'll be after her for this.

Very disturbing.

Boiledbeetle · 27/12/2022 11:39

@ArabellaScott ah yes the delightful and fragrant small brested gentleman "I'm a better woman than you, these hands don't discriminate, and his mate doing his look at me playing with my boobs in public, fuck yeah.

So brave. So stunningly wow what the actual fuck?!?

The original was sacrificed. It was the only thing to hand as the cat started to throw up as he sat on the rug. I have perfectly good wooden floors that he can throw up on, but no always the rugs.

But I do always like a compliment, who doesnt? So for your entertainment

I particularly like the slightly worried look on the dinosaur's face 😄

Yes because we women love playing with our naked breasts in public while yelling “breeders!” at other women 😳

Argh. I really did not want to see that rainbow penis monkey 🙈
Its going to give me nightmares.

How is that costume not offensive? It’s like a perverse parody of Sun Wukong from the Mahakapi Jataka.

As a devout Buddhist, I am actually offended. Sun Wukong was one of the lives of Gautama Buddha. This is making a mockery of my religion. (I’m not joking)

Cultural appropriation is a common theme within genderism.

We all know the USA is, shall we say, more tolerant of violence, hate, racism and misogyny?

Oh fgs. The enjoyment of these things by kids, and scatalogical humour, is because they're 'naughty'. Having the monkey 'out and proud', approved of by their parents and librarians ruins the fun and will probably make some kids want to up the ante and look for more extreme 'naughtiness'. Hmm

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 27/12/2022 12:43

This is not an American street. This is a British street, and there was a video of the monkey besuited people hassling women outside the library.

WandaWomblesaurus · 27/12/2022 02:41

@Onnabugeisha what would you have done instead? Were you actually there?

No, I was not present to witness the angry merkin in person.

To be honest, I find it humorous, but as a woman know that this will be weaponised by the TRAs out there along the lines of my initial sarcastic posts.

I also don’t approve of genitalia costumes or this sort of indecent exposure in spirit behaviour by adults for any purpose whatsoever. Education, protest, in fun for reading to toddlers….it’s all bad imho.

It’s a cultural shift that I do not like, & I know that may make me a prude. But honestly, if it becomes ok to be parading around with fake genitalia hanging out or dressed up as genitalia, then im afraid that will be the slippery slope that later renders the need for privacy and dignity in single sex toilets and changing rooms obsolete.

It’s only a matter of time before people start arguing “it’s nothing no one hasn’t seen before. You’re fine wearing pussy hats, dressing up as vulvas, flashing merkins, and dildo wearing performers reading stories to your toddlers, so who cares if a male sees your bush in the toilet or changing room or you see their penis? I can see this convergence coming plain as day.

Rightsraptor · 27/12/2022 12:50

Is it too late to file a non-crime hate incident against Rainbow Monkey for racism or insulting followers of Islam or something? I believe Rainbow's name is known. And anyone can file such a complaint.

I think Elaine's offence is chiefly because her merkin wasn't rainbow-coloured. Whole different ball game if it had been.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 27/12/2022 12:59

For non-American readers, this is a pussy hat. Image taken from a knitting pattern for same.

I'm struggling to understand how one uses women dressing up in any capacity (whether it be a slightly-cat shaped hat, a vagina costume, or flesh-coloured tights with a merkin stuck on) as a justification for forcing those women to see a naked man in their changing area, or as justification why men should get to see unwilling women nude.

I've been working on comprehending this for nearly 20 minutes and I'm getting nowhere.

They will try. I really think they will use the trend for fake indecency to argue this.

Rainbowshit · 27/12/2022 13:18

I do find it quite astonishing that some of the people who are losing their shit over a triangle of carpet are the MSPs, who voted to allow sex offenders free rein to get their cocks out in front of little girls in female changing rooms.

The merkin just looks angry. it actually identifies as generally happy but a few bad hair days

Its not “helping” them to point out we shouldn’t be joining them in using various degrees of indecency for shock value.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 27/12/2022 13:28

Fucking hell. I am missing the entire point of the thread here but I have The Fear. I always thought "merkin" was the genuine word for those fake fur gilet things (like the picture). Now I fear I have actually referred to these as "merkins" in conversation and people have either been too polite (or embarrassed for me) to correct me. DH must also think this as I have a pink fake fur hooded gilet thing and have often asked him to "get my merkin down for me" because I can't reach the coat hooks in the hall.

Please tell me merkin is actually the word for these and has just been appropriated as a secondary usage for fake hairy pubes. Is it a portmanteau of minge and gherkin or something?

This is written by a woman whose male spouse was in the process of transitioning. In other words, the author is most likely a straight woman, or possibly bisexual.

Headline: Yes, kink belongs at Pride. And I want my kids to see it.
When our children grew tired of marching, we plopped onto a nearby curb. Just as we got settled, our elementary-schooler pointed in the direction of oncoming floats, raising an eyebrow at a bare-chested man in dark sunglasses whose black suspenders clipped into a leather thong. The man paused to be spanked playfully by a partner with a flog. “What are they doing?” my curious kid asked as our toddler cheered them on. The pair was the first of a few dozen kinksters who danced down the street, laughing together as they twirled their whips and batons, some leading companions by leashes. At the time, my children were too young to understand the nuance of the situation, but I told them the truth: That these folks were members of our community celebrating who they are and what they like to do.

The kink community has participated in Pride since its inception — risking their jobs and safety to be authentically themselves in public. Still, every year as Pride Month approaches, a debate erupts about whether kink belongs at Pride at all. Those hoping to oust kinksters often cite the presence of children as their top concern. That was pointedly the case this year when Twitter users argued that kink at Pride is a highly sexualized experience that children should be shielded from. Thousands of users supported these posts, claiming that kink at Pride crosses a line because minors also attend events. I agree that Pride should be a welcoming space for children and teens, but policing how others show up doesn’t protect or uplift young people. Instead, homogenizing self-expression at Pride will do more harm to our children than good. When my own children caught glimpses of kink culture, they got to see that the queer community encompasses so many more nontraditional ways of being, living, and loving.
