Continuation of Thread 1

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

Or women who claim to think that they are men.

There's a few cases (unfortunately increasing) of males who claim to be females.

Watching that reminds me of "we are the borg. resistance is futile. you will be assimilated".

This afternoon I applied online for one of the post-Brexit GHIC cards, where G = "Global" to replace the terrifying word "European" in EHIC. It isn't "global", of course.

At the end, before you hit "send", you see a screen to check everything you've filled in. It all looked normal. Then I did a separate one for Sir, and HIS screen had a blanked-out section for "gender" as shown on his NHS record. Either I wasn't paying attention or that didn't happen for mine. Annoyingly, it was too late to check. I wonder if this is for the benefit of the Scots?

@mach2 - Thanks. It's worth signing. Oh, and @Britinme - I've signed government petitions from forrin many times and still use a Yahoo Italy account for things like that. They don't care, as long as you verify it. It's citizenship that matters.

@bignosebignose we have to tiptoe around the nomenclature here, because the moderators will delete/ban us if we use any of your suggested words for this group of men. 😡

I’m a relative n00b here and also merely a humble recounter of things I’ve read elsewhere - such as Doc Stock on Twitter - rather than necessarily an advocate for those things. It’s
very possible that I don’t think “men who think they are women” is a fair phrase to describe biological males who “identify” as women.

So I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

TBH the freedom to talk about this particular topic here is remarkable compared to other boards. Sounds like there is still a need to be careful to learn the parameters but so far a wide range of pretty direct opinions has been available to read here and I have to say that I really appreciate it.

It's funny really. After all the (for want of a better word) woke squeaking about casting authenticity in films and cultural appropriation, suddenly it's fine for men to advertise sanpro?

Going back to what I said upthread about my DH being desperate to avoid this topic.

This morning over breakfast I brought up the news about the Brit Awards astoundingly only having male people on their shiny newish gender-neutral Best Artist (or something) shortlist, which had been introduced last year for genderist "inclusivity" reasons. One of my DDs had recently written a school essay about sexism still existing in 2022, so I talked about it in this context.

DH looked horrified when I started talking - I think he was terrified I was going to say something correct rude about genderism in front of the DC and him. So I reassured him that the Guardian had reported the news in a hypocritically outraged fashion, therefore he was allowed to be outraged. There may have been a mocking glint in my eye as I said it... but I can't possibly confirm or deny this...

Oops, I got my heroines mixed up, that quote yesterday was Helen Joyce, not Kathleen Stock. Silly of me considering how much I've listened to her recently and can recognise her voice....

Now I will toddle off and read the Guardian's take on the Brits, sounds like fun.

The BBC also pointed out the complete absence of women Best Artist nominees under the new system.

I've called down a rabbit hole of Triggernometry podcasts, having followed the link to the recent Helen Joyce one. There's definitely some things that I don't agree with them, but I find their format refreshing - feels like there is proper questioning and dialogue.
