Continuation of Thread 1

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

When I read "18,000 (0.04%) wrote in a different gender identity" than trans woman, trans man or non-binary, I remember the number of people who wrote in Jedi for the question about religion last time and wonder how many comedy answers like "cat" are involved.

NecessaryScene · 08/01/2023 12:20

Surely we should be expecting the census to be publishing a proper breakdown, rather than just "other". That's the point of the operation, right?

This is our chance to finally get the full list of UK genders (2021 edition).

("Jedi" was properly counted in a number of censuses, for comparison. And yes, they outnumber transwomen+transmen+nonbinaries).

Note that it's quite likely a lot of protest answers are actually in the biggest-of-all 118,000 0.24% "no specific identity" bar, rather than the 18,000 0.04% "other identity" bar.

I like the randomness of bringing commensal bacteria into the equation. And the deliberately misleading wording of ‘most cells don’t have chromosomes (red blood cells)’.

CyanCrystalViolet · 08/01/2023 12:34

Oops the thread has moved on, my page hadn’t refreshed

Another great comment

It was this twee bollocks that grated me

having people go on a process of transitioning is just as beautiful as the process of making dyes into paintings or breath into song.

I imagine they have the above on the reception room wall at Mermaids.

And these are some of the people who are shaping public policy on this topic. How did these loons gain the ear of the 'great and the good'?

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 08/01/2023 13:05

If it were people copying and pasting bot responses, rather than pure bot, I'd expect them to leave out the 'I'm sorry, I didn't understand that' ones. But perhaps I'm expecting too much intelligence from the wetware component.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/01/2023 13:11

The "genitally induced coma" was one response that seemed like pure Twitter TRA.

Kucingsparkles · 08/01/2023 13:52

I really liked that thread and its OP for laying it all out to see. You'd have to be an especially dedicated BeKind-TRSOHer with head especially deep in the sand (or up your arse) to be impressed with the bot-ified non-responses and the realisation that it's a whole bunch of incel-males C&Ping to wind up women for knob-polishing thrills.

Of course, I would have to observe that the whole point of how BeKind-TRSOHers operate, is to have your head especially deep in the sand (or up your arse).

It's just been deleted, but I know it's been archived by people.

NecessaryScene · 08/01/2023 14:45

FFS, could have given a bit of notice. Missed archiving some of the page 17 fun.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/01/2023 14:45

They gave about 2 mins notice!

NecessaryScene · 08/01/2023 14:51

What's the justification for deleting threads like that? Deletion of offensive stuff, I can understand, but why delete for PBPs, bots etc?

The only people who want it deleted are the people breaking the rules themselves, surely?

MN do have the ability to just close threads - why is deletion the first resort?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/01/2023 14:56

I guess they maybe think it makes the site look bad?

NecessaryScene · 08/01/2023 14:56

Oh, for those who missed it, you'll find it at archive dot today by searching for

www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4715126-heres-why-need-to-stop-going-on-about-chromosomes

(so without the trailing ? from the previous link above) and you should be able to follow page links within that.

Kucingsparkles · 08/01/2023 19:25

Would it be naughty to speculate that the thread OP xemselves reported zir own thread in the hopes of hiding them's glorious battle for TRSOH from the eager eyes of all those undecided lurkers of MN? Wink

Wow - that thread! Odd how the OP disappeared immediately after the git.hub link was posted and the lack of an edit button discovered...

IcakethereforeIam · 09/01/2023 02:14

Someone posted a link to the archive somewhere on FWR. The last bit of the link accidentally posted, arg.mn, obviously stands for 'argument mumsnet', although IANACP. I think this is the first(?) of many.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 09/01/2023 08:17

ink was posted and the lack of an edit button discovered...

I loved the 'edit button?' post!

I'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall amongst the group at the time. I can imagine the expletives flying :)
