Continuation of Thread 1

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

I have spent 25 years working in the advertising industry at some of the most highly regarded agencies in the world.

Ha! I wasn't in the advertising industry, but my colleague did insist on telling everyone (at length) how clever, important and hard-done by he was.

A short article on how many people declared trans identity in their Census returns in the UK.

dailysceptic.org/2023/01/06/national-census-only-0-2-of-the-population-define-themselves-as-trans/

and a related Twitter thread

This possibly deserves a thread of its own.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 08/01/2023 08:08

I see it has one - off to peruse

Kucingsparkles · 08/01/2023 08:18

Here's one for the biologists (calling @BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn amongst others). I've noticed this is one of the latest talking points amongst TRSOH: X-chromosome inactivation means that males and females are the same at a cellular level, no don't look at that Y chromosome nothing to see here.

This sciencified complimacated wordification can be superficially convincing to average people, so I have posted my old SEX essay. But I just can't be arsed to explain any further.

Oh dear. I’m embarrassed for them.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/01/2023 10:04

It looks like this is a bot, or someone pretending to be one.

duc748 · 08/01/2023 10:26

The census issue was covered pretty well (for a change) on the BBC news the other night. There should have been a "I don't believe in all this gender bollocks" option, though.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 08/01/2023 10:32

Did the BBC really admit that there are only 48,000 transwomen in the whole country?

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 08/01/2023 10:34

I can't remember how the Irish census handled the question in 2022.

duc748 · 08/01/2023 10:48

They had a Big Chart with all the percentages in big letters, yes.

crabbyoldbat · 08/01/2023 10:54

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 08/01/2023 10:32

Did the BBC really admit that there are only 48,000 transwomen in the whole country?

That's enough to fill half of Wembley stadium!

angelico53 · 08/01/2023 11:14

And they're all the same, are they, these transwomen and men?

I don't suppose there's any definitions, segmentation, like that? I mean, is it possible to quantify the population? Or is that transphobic? I know I was pulled up a couple of times elsewhere by asking this question, because it could lead to a view of "good trans" and "bad trans". I wouldn't want to make a judgement here, of course.

However, I want to know, and I also want to know why that desire for knowledge is apparently unacceptable.

CyanCrystalViolet · 08/01/2023 11:14

A highlight from the ‘biology’ thread:

God made trans people for the same reason he made grapes not wine, and wheat but not bread. Being trans is a celebration of humanity, it's so sad that people here can't see that.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/01/2023 11:16

Another great comment

It was this twee bollocks that grated me

having people go on a process of transitioning is just as beautiful as the process of making dyes into paintings or breath into song.

I imagine they have the above on the reception room wall at Mermaids.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 08/01/2023 11:21

I'm very grateful to the person who pointed out that the OP on that chromosomes thread is an automated response programme not an actual human being. Interesting that the cyber bods are using Mumsnet as a training round for their gadgetsmes.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/01/2023 11:26

Thoughts are it's likely to be one or more real TRAs copying and pasting the bot generated responses, adding a few sneery gotchas of their own, according to conversations I've been having offline.
