If there one thing this has done, it's force the conversation into the national conversation

I agree. It's disgusting how it's been ignored by BBC and Channel 4 News. It's a dereliction of their duties to the people they are supposed to represent. I think they should be sued.

Rightsraptor · 23/12/2022 07:03

Thanks. Just switched on but probably missed it I think.

Bugger, I put 23 then adjusted to 22

Is it Justin or Nick?

Either way both are excellent on this ...

Ludicrous assertion by HB that laws are not made where the problem is a small one…and that women are violent too ( so let’s not have any laws preventing mens access to womens facilities) Legal matters being discussed shortly

WeAreGerbil · 23/12/2022 07:09

Thanks for the heads up. Helen Belsher being disingenuous and saying it doesn't affect the Equality Act. No, it doesn't change the Act, but it does change the implementation of the Act. Also, that there aren't many trans women in prisons, but missing the point that just one trans woman in a prison can affect the whole female prison population they come into contact with.

Justin said that a legal perspective is going to be on at 8:10.

Ramblingnamechanger · 23/12/2022 07:10

Quite rigorous interviewing but wish they would ask about what trans is and living as a woman etc, and why such a small groups feelings take precedence of this of a much larger groups lived experience.

Petrarkanian · 23/12/2022 07:12

"Women are violent too" sounded like a year 7 trying to pass the blame. So childish.

Justellingthetruth · 23/12/2022 07:18

@WarriorN

was all over the news yesterday.
i am a fan of people being diagnosed but I from reading the Scotland bill don’t see how it changes protections rather it just changed how people get the gender certificate.

yes with risks but t it fair and correct to say that they haven’t happened to any significant level in other countries so it seems not to be what some claim here.

ps not rants back at me please I just won’t listen and not point.

WarriorN · 23/12/2022 07:19

Yes it was all over the news but morning news, today prog in particular, is a prime spot.

NeedToKnow101 · 23/12/2022 07:22

Justin holding the line for women there. Thank you Justin.

Belcher saying 'no evidence.' That's their new 'argument' saying there's no evidence and the evidence mounts.

WarriorN · 23/12/2022 07:24

yes with risks but t it fair and correct to say that they haven’t happened to any significant level in other countries so it seems not to be what some claim here.

I can't remember where I saw it but someone's done some investigative journalism into stats - few would talk to her. Some said it's not recorded. It appears there's deliberate avoidance of monitoring this.

We will see women's offering rates increase, except it won't be a true reflection of sex.

It makes little difference whether the law will change this.

Glinner reposted his 122 it never happens article of examples of male offenders claiming to be women. We have the long running it never happens threads. It's happening.

And not having a grc clearly didn't stop the ceo of RCS.

I would estimate that the risk of having some women disengage from services that are supposed to be women only when a trans woman is present will be 100%. Other than prisons obviously where women have no choice, where women will be significantly distressed by male presence. I work with women who have experienced childhood trauma, sexual violence and domestic violence so I know this from first hand conversations, and also from my own experiences.

SallyLockheart · 23/12/2022 07:28

I listened to that bit and wanted to shout, ask Helen about safeguarding. Helen's view seemed to be that one or two incidents or the possibility of abuse of the system was ok "as unlikely to happen and/or TW not to blame - or words to that effect. But we have rigorous safeguarding in school etc on the basis that harm may happen to children and don't wait for it to happen again before measures are put in place.

NeedToKnow101 · 23/12/2022 07:33

Helen doesn't understand (or care about more likely) what safeguarding means.

waterwitch · 23/12/2022 07:35

Justtellingthetruth have a look at the UN report from Alsalem, including a very pointed note that sex-based statistics are often not collected, and where they are nobody will collate them
I saw a Twitter referenced on here from a journalist who said she had data, but as a freelancer, she’d been warned not to write the story
Also notice that Shona Robison saying both that personal testimony wasn’t enough, hard data is needed AND rejecting the need to collect data on the impacts of the bill
if data is not sex-disaggregated, or is not collected, obviously nothing can be proved wrt sex….

Really hope that’s not ranting, you’re right, it’s important to look at all the evidence

WarriorN · 23/12/2022 07:50

Helen also admitted that it had been an issue in prisons. She quoted more recent stats about fewer TW in prisons. And a case where rules weren't followed.

That's not safeguarding. That's demonstrating there is an issue

Birdsweepsin · 23/12/2022 07:58

May be a coincidence but they just had powerful personal testimony regarding the situation for women and girls in Afghanistan.

Argh! She mentioned rape crisis Scotland - want better care for transwomen. OF COURSE THEY DO! Due to the ceo....

nauticant · 23/12/2022 08:20

Baroness Kennedy effectively saying that the risk to women and girls is low enough not to worry about and this is a price worth paying because of the Most Oppressed Ever transwomen.
