Lots of references to it in other threads so I thought I'd put the link here for people who want to see it:

It was me that said that KJK merched and monetarised a phrase that feminists and other women had been using for years.

I also said that the ADH billboard campaign was excellent because it was the right thing at the right time.

If you want to believe that's belittling, reality-denying, telling KJK to STFU and making sarky comments about her hair, well, you do you as they say

I didn't use the term 'cashed in' because I don't think she has or that this was her motivation.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/12/2022 09:31

Is the general idea that the title Adult Human Female was used to remind people that this phrase was being used widely before Posie's billboard campaign? So its kind of retrieving ownership?

They can't "retrieve ownership", because it's literally the meaning of what a woman is. KJK doesn't own it but she promoted it to the mainstream more than anyone else. They don't own it either, and any claim to "take it back" from women they don't approve of is silly.

Shinyredbicycle · 21/12/2022 12:27

Quite. There's nothing to 'retrieve' or 'reclaim'.

It was never taken away from all women, despite the best efforts of MRAs.

Sazzasez · 21/12/2022 18:51

I helped organise a showing of it.
23 women & 2 men turned up, at different levels of peaking or information. There were gasps, groans & at the end applause.

It was clearly done on a shoestring - self funded, and I’m glad I was able to chip in towards it.

I don’t know what the budget was but it was low because they’ve covered it & can afford to let it be shown for free.

They started work on it last spring, before KJK announced her documentary, btw. I’m looking forward to seeing that, too.

its just very good to see all those stories in one place.

I also want to see a film about detransitioners. Can someone please fund that?

Goodness knows there’s room for it.

Nutmegger · 28/12/2022 01:52

My point was that the phrase AHF has been reframed as not only the meaning of a word but also a slogan that is now very much associated with Posie.
I don't think my point was silly @Ereshkigalangcleg or @Shinyredbicycle however I think your lack of understanding of how marketing and slogans work is a bit clueless

Shinyredbicycle · 28/12/2022 19:58

As I said earlier, Posie Parker used AHF because women involved in these debates and actions would know exactly what it meant.

Ten years ago, it wouldn't have had the same slogan power or marketing potential.

There is a Swedish documentary which sort of touches on it: The Trans Train

Regardless how you feel about Kellie-Jay Keen, it IS quite disrespectful from WPUK to name their documentary "adult human female" and use white lettering on a black background and not even mention or show Kellie-Jay.

Especially considering the smear campaign they have held against Kellie-Jay for years now which often felt more like a personal vendetta.

Her entire campaign is "Be the billboard" and it all started with black billboards with broad white letters " woman adult human female" and selling those black t-shirts. Though I am willing to bet KJK does not even mind. Unlike some she has her eye on the prize. She does not care for petty fights and it is one of the many reasons I love what she is doing.

Sure she does not have copy right on the definition of woman. But no matter how much some of the women who talk shit behind her back dislike it, when you see "adult human female" in bold white letters on black all you can think is Kellie-Jay Keen's billboard campaign and how amazing she is.

If they did it to ride the PR of her campaigns they should have at least acknowledged and thanked her. If it was to put a claim on it out of spite they shot themselves in the foot.

I think it's an ok documentary and it's good another is made. The more the merrier. Personally I like the one Karen Actually made by herself IN 2021 a tad more but I realise it's not to everyone's taste.

Shinyredbicycle · 28/12/2022 23:23

The film isn't WPUK's. It was made by a tiny production company of two people called 'Reality Matters'.

The white on black is their branding.

WPUK hosted the first public viewing.

Toseland · 28/12/2022 23:57

I do think it was a bit of a mean snub to Posie, I think they have used her footage. But however we could do with a lot more 'adult human female' films. Looking forward to Posie's and other perhaps other groups versions.

You completely missed the point I made. I acknowledged that KJK had done the most to bring it into the mainstream, so not sure what your point is.

You may all be aware of this already, but if you want to promote the documentary and fight back against the silencers then Reality Matters will send you pack of stickers and cards to place where you see fit for a pound.

Link here:Realitymatters

I just stuck one up in an Oxfam changing room, which was immensely satisfying.....Guerilla tactics....
