In reply to one of them, an 18 year old he/himmer, bragging about having stopped women watching a film:

Say whatever about Greta’s beliefs but you can’t possibly believe she’s never experienced misogyny!?

No, all women girls experience it IMO, but a relatively sheltered, western young woman will be more protected from its worst consequences (in general, obviously there are exceptions) and not see it as in issue. There are loads of young idealistic women supporting gender ideology and TWAW, even though it is regressive, sexist and harmful to women and girls. My point is they will become more worldly wise and aware of how misogyny works through more life experience and getting older - especially if they have kids.

Justme56 · 16/12/2022 12:00

The film includes working class women, women of colour and lesbians all talking about their own life experiences. Dylan’s actions show that Dylan thinks that only Dylan’s life matters and that people should only watch what Dylan thinks they should. Dylan seems to think that other far more intelligent people are not capable of making their own minds up about this issue. Dylan is a bully and Greta seems to think bullying is acceptable. Nobody likes bullies.

The Scottish government also think a women in a hoodie and jeans is a ‘boy’ and girls are transphobic for refusing to have lesbian sex with them. I suppose you thing girls should get used to that too?

I am surprised to think anyone who has read anything that corgi has posted would think anything like this.

Corgi, you are being too subtle again.

We need to get the sarcasm emoji working!!!

Imagine starting a thread to bash teenagers 😂

The person that Greta was sending hearts to is an 18 year old female I believe. Who chose to join many others to prevent the screening of this documentary out of fear and outrage from what I can see.

I have seen it and I don't think it is controversial but uses plain language that some people would consider unsafe in their heightened sense of being victimised by misgendering.

So, yes. I imagine that there will be 'teenagers' being 'bashed' (figuratively, in the emotionally manipulative usage of the word rather than 'literally' - because no violence should be happening at all) in these threads about this protest and other protests where these extreme activists are protesting, and some even attacking, feminist rallies of any kind.

MangyInseam · 16/12/2022 16:22

While I don't condone trash talking her, 19 or 20 is the age when young adults are normally going off to higher education, and where they should be finding their ideas robustly criticized and challenged by their teachers. They shouldn't be getting a pass at that age, it's what sets them up to become poor, reactionary thinkers.

As someone who has a pretty remarkable platform and public voice, she darn well should be challenged if she is trying to restrict the public discourse of others.

DdraigGoch · 16/12/2022 18:43

I reckon that she's a GC fifth-columnist. After all, she's brought so much publicity for this film by doing so, right into a new audience.

Keep at it Greta!

If you've been listening to Greta Thunberg lately you'll have seen she's shifting to anti-capitalism protesting. It looks like she's just taking onboard the complete set of accepted and unexamined beliefs.

The attitude that the planet belongs to us and we can do whatever we want with it is a core tenant of capitalism (and suspiciously masculine) which doesn't recognise communal wealth.

You will never seriously address climate change if you don't address how we got here.

Previously empires just expanded to steal their needs. Until they ran up against the inconvenient truth that while their appetites were infinite, the planet ain't.

thesis->antithesis->synthesis is how it goes, if I recall.

Andypandy799 · 17/12/2022 10:09

Seen her once wearing a disposable ask whilst on an iPhone. All these woke activists like her and stop oil or extinction rebellion are just a bunch of muppets and hypocrites. Pisses me reet off

Andypandy799 · 17/12/2022 10:10

Unfortunately I don't think they had been happening in universities for some time now.

Greta is a teenage autistic woman. We know she is exactly the demographic who gets drawn in to gender identity politics.

I don't really like the tone of much of this thread. I think she's a vulnerable young woman who was a vulnerable kid, who was (is still) a handy tool for other people's agendas.

Grimchmas · 17/12/2022 10:21

@Andypandy799

If you have to live a perfectly in alignment lifestyle 24/7 to be able to campaign for the improvement of the world, we're all pretty fucked.

Fenlandia · 16/12/2022 09:51

Greta hearts people who forcibly and successfully stopped women from lawfully assembling at a university. I was interested what other posters made of this, because I don't like bullies or anyone who cheers them on.

Greta is sending hearts to another teenager she has met up with in-person.

She will naturally take her friend's side, and her friend identifies as trans.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/12/2022 10:34

Nothing natural about that at all. What if her friend had committed a crime that had left someone else injured or deprived of their property? 'My friend, right or wrong' is like something from the primary school playground.

publicsafety · 17/12/2022 10:34

Talking of bullies I'm sure the gender critical activists who hang out here will be condemning the dogpile attacks on a young autistic woman for expressing her opinion.

I'll wait....

Is this the level of dialogue on mumsnet these days?

What are you suggesting she should do- knit her own mask and communicate by semaphore?

Parky04 · 17/12/2022 10:37

Clymene · 16/12/2022 07:23

It's about time people realised what a muppet she is

More like a puppet. Her parents have failed her miserably.

Wanderingowl · 17/12/2022 10:48

I feel incredibly sorry for her. She was just a kid when her head was filled with news that terrified her and that fear was stoked up for the benefit of others. I get the impression that when she speaks of panic and her future being stolen from her, her feelings are very genuine. But it's that the adults around her who have left her panic and terror to take hold for their own gain are the ones who have stolen her future.

And while I'm not a climate change denier by any means, I have read the UN's 2018 IPCC Special Report on Global Warming. And fuck me, if the actual report isn't drastically different to how it's reported. To the point that it's authors have repeatedly issued clarifications and stated that the report is being taken out of context. Anyone who actually reads the report will not feel panic and terror at the climate situation, as that is not how the report reads. It's very hopeful compared to what we are lead to believe. It gives us time, solutions and totally different consequences to what we are constantly told in the media.

Ooh, are we have a 'will you condemn-a-thon'? Excellent, just in time for Christmas.

I'll go first. Will you condemn the cannibalisation of the Guangxi Massacre of 1967-1976? Or do you just not care?

ArabellaScott · 17/12/2022 11:08

WanderingOwl I agree completely with your thoughts on GT. Away to read the report you suggest, now, that sounds worthwhile. I do seem to recall that there was a conscious decision to make that one more 'upbeat' though, as there was a fear that being too scary would lead everyone to abandon all efforts as hopelessly doomed.

OMG12 · 17/12/2022 11:20

Looking for womens rights charity to donate my “instead of Christmas cards” donation to. It seems increasingly difficult to find one not brought into GI that accepts charitable donations Any suggestions?

Have you got any information on it being made deliberately upbeat? Because all of the 2018 mainstream reporting on it was all constant dire predictions that do not reflect the actual report but claim they do. So why would there be a deliberate attempt to make it upbeat followed by mass reporting that everything was much worse than claimed?

The more and more I read up on climate science, the more obvious it becomes to me, that there is no massive scientific consensus we read about, is similar to the scientific consensus that allows biological males compete in women's sports. Climate change is real, humans are contributing to it, it will have consequences. But it's far from as terrifying as we are currently lead to believe. We do have to make changes to address it, but we aren't all doomed in the way that I think most people have as an ongoing fear due to how it's being reported.

Happylittlechicken · 17/12/2022 11:21

So at what age are we allowed to criticise someone’s actions @publicsafety? 25? 30? Why should people not be allowed to disagree with someone’s actions because they’re young? If you’re old enough to put things in the public sphere, you’re old enough to be disagreed with.

ArabellaScott · 17/12/2022 11:28

WanderingOwl sorry, it's vague memories I have from around that time!

Am trying to find references ...

This one is suggestive of 'tries to find hope against a backdrop of failure'

You'd do better to start a separate thread on this, but I'd suggest NIA, run by Karen Ingala Smith.
