In reply to one of them, an 18 year old he/himmer, bragging about having stopped women watching a film:

It's an hour and a half long. I thought it was excellent. Very clear, very accessible, good range of contributors, almost all women. Simon Edge is the only male contributor I can recall.

Imagine starting a thread to bash teenagers 😂

The Scottish government thinks that 16-year olds are old enough to legally change sex. It also thinks that they are old enough to vote and stand for parliament. In which case, they need to get used to being criticised.

The Scottish government also think a women in a hoodie and jeans is a ‘boy’ and girls are transphobic for refusing to have lesbian sex with them. I suppose you thing girls should get used to that too?

She’s an adult. Don’t be so condescending… infantilising a fully grown adult human female!

Sausagenbacon · 16/12/2022 08:59

Oh no! Saint Greta in "ignorant fucking twat" shocker.
This

ArabellaScott · 16/12/2022 08:59

I still think of her as a child. I think she wasn't properly protected as a child. I think she's since been used by various interests, and become a fetishised symbol of faux resistance.

So I have a lot of sympathy for Greta. I don't give her thoughts much credence, however.

Imagine preventing women from watching a film you haven't seen.

ArabellaScott · 16/12/2022 09:09

This film must be terrifying, eh?

No, I think they should fight very hard against it.

I hope that clarifies matters.

BlackeyedSusan · 16/12/2022 09:25

She's autistic, like a lot of the girls we want to protect. And still quite young. If we go on the about two thirds chronological age that is used for autistic kids (and young adults)...

AutumnCrow · 16/12/2022 09:32

Greta Thunberg will be 20 years old on 3rd January which is only a couple of weeks away, according to Wiki.

Then join a thread (or better yet start one) celebrating teenage women and encouraging them to have an opinion. Hiding on a forum bashing women from a far isn’t helping anyone. I know you know this.

Fenlandia · 16/12/2022 09:51

Greta hearts people who forcibly and successfully stopped women from lawfully assembling at a university. I was interested what other posters made of this, because I don't like bullies or anyone who cheers them on.

The criticism of Greta on this thread has been so far polite and measured. She has received all sorts of appalling abuse, death threats and the like on social media, whereas this thread is simply taking issue with a view she expressed to her five million Twitter followers.

Greta Thunberg has a huge public platform. She has addressed the UN. She expresses strongly-held views that reach millions of people. She can expect, therefore, that people will engage with them and criticise them. I'm sure she knows this, and I doubt very much that she has a problem with it.

It seems massively condescending to me to say that Greta Thunberg should be exempt from criticism just because she's young, when she is clearly mature enough to meet government leaders and address huge public rallies.

Floisme · 16/12/2022 09:56

I reserve most of my criticism for all those who promoted Greta Thunberg as a figurehead while she was still a child, and then retreated behind her childhood whenever she was challenged.

ArabellaScott · 16/12/2022 09:56

Same, Floisme.

WarriorN · 16/12/2022 10:04

She's been thoroughly ratioed.

This and what Floisme said.

I read much of the Twitter thread, I have a daughter the same age and I can’t get on board with any of the hostility towards Greta I read there however I also read many Tweets which were respectfully explaining her error of judgment to her. I hope that she is able to bring herself to watch the film and use her own judgment.

People don’t become fair game for nastiness just because they have had their 18th birthday in my opinion.

Love Luluchops. A rational, reasonable challenge. Looking forward to the reply.

MangyInseam · 16/12/2022 10:23

I'd be surprised if she wasn't on board with this.

She's never been one for subtle thinking or spotting actual, real problems. And she has always been inclined to throw around accusations that other people are doing things wrong.

Yup, Simon Edge is the only male participant.

This generation of teenage white male fanatics in UK/US/Canada who hate women and free speech are laughable now but it won’t be funny when they’re all in their thirties.

Afghanistan and Iran used to be really nice countries where women could wear short skirts, feel the breeze in their hair and debate politics.
