UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH

14 Dec 18:00 EUSA & Staff Pride Network are hosting a trans solidarity event at Teviot.

The same day, “Edinburgh Academics For Academic Freedom (EAFAF) will be hosting a screening of the film ‘Adult Human Female’ and related discussion. We believe this event will contribute to an unsafe and unwelcoming environment on campus for our trans members.”

I watched it this afternoon. I thought it was excellent.

Thank you @ArabellaScott for collating the posts in that thread

The childishness is just off the scale. And these are Uni students!

The childish level of reasoning in the comments I read after clicking on that Twitter link is truly off the scale. Post after post of smugly telling each other what terfs believe that is absolute bollocks and the repeated facile assertion that GC women reduce all women to just their wombs.

Childish thinking, childish language. And these are the people being listened to.

I tend to think that TRAs cynically spread mistruths about the GC position in the knowledge that people who aren’t overly invested will accept a lie told repeatedly. But I think this lot genuinely believe what they’re saying - and of course they get their information about ‘terfs’ from each other because to engage directly is harmful. Which brings us back to the film... when they close down all debate, not only are theirs the only voices allowed on who and what women are, but they will be the only ones allowed to describe what the opposing view is.

OnlyTheWeedsGrow · 16/12/2022 01:55

Are the arguments childish perhaps due to blockers arresting development, or due to complete indoctrination into an ideology that would devastate believers if they even considered reality?

Mmmnotsure · 16/12/2022 13:29

You couldn't have bought this kind of publicity.
Youtube - now been watched 28k times.

Oh noes, what if people accidentally agree with it? Crivens! Oh waily, waily, waily!

I have just watched this film all the way through (74 year old grey-haired grandma here). I am a Times reader and never watch YouTube but they did a piece on this yesterday so I googled it. This film should be made compulsory viewing in all schools and sent as a link to all senior management at the BBC, NHS Trusts, The Guardian and all those institutions who swallowed whole this pernicious wicked gender nonsense. Regarding the terrible things being done to children and young adults and those pseudo-medical people advising them, does no-one ask "whose making money from all this?" The answer = American pharmaceutical companies and their tame "researchers" of course.

I think it would be wonderful if every review had a link to the male declaring they are an adult human female at the protest.

It would solidify everything the documentary discussed. It couldn’t have been better delivered.

I think it would be even more wonderful if the online film has a short preamble added, consisting of footage from the Righteous protests and stating baldly "Transactivists prevented the screening of this film claiming it is harmful."

I mean, you couldn't buy better publicity for this film or for aiding the mountain-climbing of the undecided public, than the actions of the Righteous themselves.

Hope this link will work - footage of Robyn spitting here, shown on STV.

The whole thing was rather shocking. I knew about the de-platforming culture, but never realised it would come to physically blocking people from watching a film.

This is so unfortunate for the students who don't learn to hone their arguments by hearing opposing views and don't learn how to find good data to back their arguments because they don't allow data to be tested by criticism. But this will also hurt the future society they will be affecting. Very sad, in my opinion, even before addressing the topic these students wished to silence.

The tweets I saw about this later by students or young activists also implied that they wanted to ban the film as they had already pre-decided that it was transphobia. I'd argue that concluding that requires first watching the film.

I watched the film earlier. For those who have discussed issues here there was nothing new in it, but it was a nice summary of many of the issues (with some bad sound effects). Not transphobic, unless we use the definition that any and all criticism of transgender arguments is transphobia.

Dreikanter

It gets better. Robyn is a civil engineering student.

Spitting isn't very civil, to my mind.

I bet that he and his nasty mates haven't bothered to watch the film. I suspect that, even if they did, they'd come out with a load of counter-factual bullshit and the pretence that they are following science, whilst non cultist aren't.

Someone said earlier that it's a drip, drip drip campaign, of lying repeatedly and often, so people glancing at the subject will have the lies imprinted in their minds. And most people don't want to be labelled as intolerant and bigoted.

Robyn Woof has apparently been arrested and charged with assault.

Not sure what for, but good news all the same because he is clearly an aggressive and dangerous individual.

I'm in an all women Facebook group in Edinburgh which is a mixture of general recommendations and extremely personal requests for help and advice. This person has been allowed to join. I was angry when I first heard he was a member and now I'm absolutely furious.

DerekFaker · 08/02/2023 13:21

Oh god that's awful Jeannie!

RhannionKPSS · 08/02/2023 15:35

Having been in close proximity to the less than fragrant Mr Woof that evening, I am delighted that he has been lifted.
I think the film should have been shown anyway with the wee sods in the room. It might have opened the eyes of at least one of them, or better still they would have left the auditorium and let us watch it!

RhannionKPSS · 08/02/2023 15:37

As an aside there is a demo Keep Prisons Single Sex tomorrow Thursday at Holyrood 11:30 if anyone on here is available to join us.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 08/02/2023 18:47

@JeannieDark Robyn is in EGG?

Yup. Quietly so, I assume deliberately as he isn't as quiet in other Facebook groups. There's at least one other trans woman in there too.

FfS. That group had actually been creeping towards sanity in recent months. Several posts which weren't TWAW, then someone would tell everyone off for the "rampant transphobia" but it seems to be mostly mums and slightly older women (rather than teens)

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 08/02/2023 20:31

I thought Robyn was a non binary person. Didn't realise that Robyn thought Robyn was a woman.

Kylie will be in trouble. Once you give an inch you get, well, seven.

A similar group for another area in the Lothians had a post which mentioned the mixed sex changing rooms in Primark and which was deleted very, very quickly. It wasn't even a particularly incendiary post. I hear the Edinburgh group is much more in your face 'TWAW' but the group I'm talking about is quiet censorship.

Hmmm. Maybe you're right and I've misunderstood then, but....Robyn is a man... and so really shouldn't be eligible for a group for women.

Well Police Scotland have charged “a woman” with this assault. Presumably not Robyn, given the precedent set with yesterday’s events in the Galashiels case where “a man” was charged? Or have Police Scotland now got a special way of telling which male suspects are men and which male suspects are women? Did they ask Nicola to decide?
