Wow, WaitWhat! That's an extraordinary thread. A fabulous example of suppression and self censorship:
'Regarding tonight’s screening of “Adult Human Female” on [Ed Uni] campus. [The Student Paper] have taken the editorial decision not to cover the event as we do not believe in platforming the harmful rhetoric that will undoubtedly affect many of our student readership. 1/
We will instead be focusing on the Trans Solidarity Community event held at the same time by members of [Ed Uni Students] and [sssn edi] - we believe it is more important for us as a student publication to report on the ways our community looks out for each other. 2/
Our attention must be placed on the university’s response, as their refusal to cancel the event in the name of “free speech” is a decision that will incite further hatred against trans people and put many members of our community at further risk. 3/
I urge you to read the statement released by [ucu edinburgh] It is abhorrent that union members have faced racial abuse for speaking out against this and The Student stands in solidarity with all UCU members on this matter. 4/
The Student is a place where students can voice their opinion freely. Freedom of academic expression is important. Calling into question the human rights of trans people is not “free speech”, but is a targeted attack on the trans community. 5/
Free speech does not mean the freedom to speak without accountability. Tonight’s event is dangerous and harmful to our community. It is our priority to report on this and hold those responsible to account. 6/6'
But - what the fuck is this mysterious rhetoric you can't even bring yourself to reference, cover, or describe?! This is whack journalism.
War is peace.
Slavery is freedom.
Ignorance is strength.
