Gratitude from me too. I do my bit but not sure I could have stood up like that in such a hostile environment. Brave brave lady..gaun’ yersel’!!

Another applauding. To stand up to that room of privileged, po faced women celebrating the subordination of their sex class and covering their ears and averting their faces from the harm to the less fortunate of their sex.... that is courage.

No, no amount of evidence or sense will penetrate that little lot, that is plain. But shame might. Realising that there will be no safe space where they can hide from the harm to women and hearing about it that they are enabling and aiding might. And even more important is women outside that privileged little bubble of righteousness seeing that they are not forgotten, that there are women who have the guts to stand up for them and speak out even under the increasing threats and dangers for daring to do so? That they are not alone.

Bloody powerful.

This!

I'm having most unfeminist thoughts about those women in the room, sat stupefied by the smell of their own privileged virtue. I think I need to go for a run.

"Are you in Scotland, Marg?"

No, England.

Here's an article to back up what I said about other countries who have already implemented self-ID.

web.archive.org/web/20221201031857/www.thenational.scot/news/23158449.european-expert-dismisses-scotland-gender-reform-global-risk-claim/

"Dr Pieter Cannoot, from Human Rights Centre at the University of Ghent, said cases of abuse of the system “haven’t occurred” in Belgium or other countries where the policy is already in place.

There are eighteen countries where self-determination, the removal of the medical requirement and psychiatric diagnosis to acquire a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) to legally change gender, is in place across the world.

Denmark, Malta, Ireland, Norway, Luxembourg, Portugal, Iceland and Switzerland, are other European countries who already have self ID, while Argentina introduced the policy in 2012."

Igneococcus · 01/12/2022 16:23

So why do you think you know Scotland better than the people who actually live here?

ArabellaScott · 01/12/2022 16:37

Marge self identifies as knowing better.

Here's a closer look at the 'no evidence' arguments, from women who are perhaps slightly better placed than random internet bods:

nilsmousehammer · 01/12/2022 16:39

That's the fundamental issue with this whole ideology and those captured by it: now we're seeing Sturgeon and her followers try it.

"I identify as reality being this, and if you argue with me and show me evidence I shall deny it and tell you you're just being hateful."

You can't argue with batshit. People are welcome to follow their own religions. But some beliefs and religions are not compatible with positions of responsibility and office, particularly when an inability to cope with objective and impartial reality is the core concept.

She wasn’t on her own, we were outside the building with a banner but Sturgeon had been ushered in via a fire door. We were told that “ obviously you are going to be unable to be quiet & listen so I’m afraid, I can’t allow you to go in to the meeting”. But our wee ⭐️got in and let Sturgeon have it between the eyes from all of us.

She went in a group and delivered it's message alone, I'm humbled by her courage. Actually it makes me feel a bit emotional. Please pass on my thanks and keep up the good work.

Please make sure JKR knows who she is, I think she wants to send her a case of her favourite tipple.

This reply from Neale Hanvey's office.

With your permission, I would like to forward your email on directly to Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Housing and Local Government, Shona Robison MSP ([email protected])

The more people who express their concerns about the GRA Bill direct to Scottish Government minister the better.

Ah now, @MargaritaPie , I suspect that Dr Pieter Cannoot isn't putting much weight on the detrimental effects on the women who are forced to be housed with these males in prison. Even psychological and emotional. The housing of males in the women's section is in itself an abuse of the rights of the incarcerated women.

Paddy O'Gorman is interviewing the women who are put in that situation. I don't know if Pieter over there in Ghent is too concerned about these women. Or the effects it has on them. One of the interviewees said that there was a male paedophile in the women's prison, and the males have all their bits and bobs. And, that said males are shouting vile and disgusting things at the women and get away with it. Yet the women are reprimanded for factually stating they are males and shouldn't be in the women's section. I seem to remember that all three of the males in Limerick Women's Prison were sex offenders of some shape or form. It is great altogether that these males being in the women's prison is apparently not abuse of the rights of the women; according to yourself and Pieter anyway.

The whole thing is an abuse of the women. In an already overcrowded women's space.

sanluca · 01/12/2022 18:07

Argentina has reported 'incidents' and have also stated that they have done no follow up at all so they have no idea what the impact on women has been.
Ireland, well, we all know how that is going.
Norway: incidents and lawsuits plus an increase of 300 something % of women sex offenders. Lawssuits starting
Malta: yes, that beacon of womens rights....
Denmark: incidents and problems, case law until now is that transwomen are not allowed access to female facilities
Portugal, don't know really. Anybody know? Seeing as it is a catholic country, I am guessing womens rights don't feature high on their list of priorities though

US, New Zealand, Australia, well, fantastic, the men love it in womens sports and womens prisons.

No impact my *ss

I punched the air when I saw the video.if you can extend thanks from thousands of worried women in Scotland, unable to air our views.

she is a modern day heroine

Helleofabore · 01/12/2022 18:31

The statement about ‘no incidents’ is about as false as a statement as ‘males won’t abuse the system’!

Maycock found in his 2021 qualitative study that there were already males abusing the system.

Here are direct quotes from female inmates:

She’s been caught having sex and stuff in here, and I think that’s wrong. Well, supposedly, she had stopped taking her medication for a bit and, supposedly, something had happened.

and

There’s a transgender [wo]man (Susan). He worked in the...my work party. His views were totally wrong. He wanted to be in this hall because he wanted to have sex with loads of lassies.

and then he made this observation:

Several participants discussed transgender people who had transitioned in custody, but who had reverted to their birth gender following release. For example, Isla below outlines her acceptance of a transgender woman (Ruth) in her hall, reflecting on the hurt that this caused given the efforts she and other prisoners made to accept and welcome this person.

There were 17 trans prisoners in Scottish prisons at the time of the study.

Maycock wrote

The latest official figures indicate a fall in the average number of women in custody between 2011–12 and 2016–17, followed by a relatively static female average prison population of under 400 women since 2016–17 (Scottish Government 2020). At the time of ethical approval for the study (May 2019), there were 379 women in custody in Scotland, equating to 4.6% of the prison population, located in five prisons across Scotland. In May 2019 there were 17 transgender people in custody.

The majority of those were male. By Christmas 2021, there was 15 transgender prisoners, 12 were male.

So let’s assume that two out of every 12 detransition when leaving as per noted in the study, that is a pretty high chance that a male is abusing the system and will detransition upon leaving. That is NOT counting the known males who were having sex with female inmates uncovered by this study. That is abuse as well.

How bizarre that the government states there is NO incidences of abuse and harm to females because of self - ID.

That is why we know they are not being truthful. With just ONE study, we can prove that there are women being harmed.

Tell us pie, as well as dismissing violence against women, how many are you decreeing are acceptable collateral before the Scottish Government actually takes notice of what women are saying and starts protecting women?

n+1?

because I reckon we already have a few female prisoners who have been harmed. Or do you believe that a woman can have consensual sex in prison?

That a vulnerable, likely to be a victim of sexual abuse and MVAWG, prisoner feels empowered in prison to consent adequately to sex?

RhannionKPSS · 01/12/2022 19:14

Please can i ask as many of you who do care about women and children to keep writing to your MPs & MSPs from all parties.
I know the Greens are completely captured, as are most of the SNP & Labour but it’s worth your time to let them know how you feel anyway. They can’t say “ we didn’t know because no one told us” as we will keep telling them.

@Helleofabore and also, if I remember correctly, Maycock points out himself that the women he interviewed may well have felt restricted in speaking frankly about their experiences as he is a male, employed by the SPS itself.

It was only last week Eldur Deville shared that the chair of Icelandic version of stonewall (trans woman) has been exited from their position due to a fleet of CSA allegations.

To be fair I don't need to be told what to think by overseas government. Particularly when self ID has consistently slipped into govt policy by stealth rather than debate and credible evidence.

Ireland is now wrestling with the fall out of self ID.. which was neatly tucked away in same sex marriage legislation as per Dentons legal advice. This is well known by now. So it's disingenuous to imply other countries are so much more open minded.

And Norway isn't there something interesting pending in Norway? Ellie something?

Now that's 3 countries from your list currently having issues with self ID. That's just off the top of my head without research.

Frankly a lot of women are going to have issues with Malta being cited as leaders in human rights. So that's 4 of these oh so enlightened nations.

Also I do not agree my views are held by a minority...women are extremely polite and sometimes aftaid. It's foolish to assume that because women stay quiet does not mean they agree. I have yet to speak to another nurse (except EDI) who have no issue with self ID.

Do you know what monitoring these countries are doing Marg? What would be an abuse and how are they measuring whether they have occurred?
