I don't think this has been shared yet. In the Magazine section of today's Times, no comments allowed:

It was wonderful. Really made my day. Profile of a little known (she’s very unassuming) but important campaigner by one of our best journalists.
Thank you Karen for your work and Janice for writing this.

Ramblingnamechanger · 26/11/2022 13:25

Great article. She is doing such useful work and speaking out clearly. Thank you.

Second this.

WomenShouldWinWomensSports · 26/11/2022 13:31

This is a really incredible woman. I’m heartened to know that there are still refuges that hold space for women, and who refuse to be bullied. And the discussion of the statistics is clear, concise and very useful to refer to when trying to refute the line people often trot out about trans people being more at risk of death by domestic violence. Bookmarked.

TinFoilHatty · 26/11/2022 13:37

Thank you.

EndlessTea · 26/11/2022 13:42

Really great article. And thorough in being selective about the last decade and KIS’ background. You are really able to chew on everything and digest it as a reader. The thing about elderly women in burglaries and the sons. A shocking reminder that it is misogyny underpinning it all. And also about male dominance- how women are socialised to centre others - that is such a key point about requiring women-only things, and the irrefutable fact that men are a risk because they are bigger and stronger, so they don’t need weapons to kill.
Brilliant. Good luck with the book(s) KIS.

RoyalCorgi · 26/11/2022 14:24

Agree that this is a great article. So pleased to see Karen Ingala Smith given the recognition she deserves. She is an absolute force for good in the world.

pattihews · 26/11/2022 14:29

It's good to see Karen Ingala Smith getting some of the credit she deserves. Shocking that in 2012 the MoJ weren't logging the stats. Women really don't count, do they?

Joolsin · 26/11/2022 14:48

What a remarkable woman. Great article, thanks, OP. The evidence is so compelling for single-sex services, isn't it - there is simply no logical counter-argument.

Rightsraptor · 26/11/2022 14:51

Yes great article and I will definitely be buying the book. One thing though: it says 98% of rapists are male. But 100% of rapists are male, the crime of rape needing a penis in order to commit it.

EndlessTea · 26/11/2022 14:53

Yes. I think it is 98% of rapes and sexual assaults which are perpetrated by males. Possibly higher.

FrancescaContini · 26/11/2022 15:00

I have huge respect for Karen and her work.

EndlessTea · 26/11/2022 15:06

My favourite KIS moment was her giving evidence to the Women and Equalities committee. Referring to men as men and he, even with one who was claiming to be a woman sitting next to her. Really brave.

Was that the one who complained online about being unable to access porn via the rail company's wi fi on their journey to the meeting? 🙄

Karen Ingala Smith is a total shero, thank you for sharing the article OP.

That was indeed. I still can’t believe that this fucked up, male entitled, sexualised larping is tolerated.

Boiledbeetle · 26/11/2022 15:21

I'm going to be honest I was in tears reading that.

Hats off to her and the amazing things she does

I'm off to find some softer tissues and a cat to snuggle.

MenaiMna · 26/11/2022 16:01

Such a good article and inspirational woman.

AuntMunca · 26/11/2022 17:05

Karen was interviewed by Aasmah Mir on Times Radio on Thursday morning. Karen came over very well and I was pleased that Times Radio was covering the publication of her book because it hasn't had a particularly good record of covering challenges to gender ideology. The interview is 3 hours 40 minutes into the programme:

Thank you, pattihews. I assume you mean Ferdinand Mount's aunt, rather than Beatrix Potter's mouse. I found the search / disentangling of who she really was quite gripping!

VestofAbsurdity · 26/11/2022 19:20

and shockingly the Labour Party refused KIS membership.

I've never been able to get 12 foot ladder to work on the Times - it works on the Tel, though.
