It's Trans Awareness Week and I've just received a work email advertising these for free. 🙄

I could do with a haircut - do you think I could go and say that I identify as a woman and need my femenine gender affirmed?

What an absolute joke they're making out of all the advances women had made in moving away from all these stupid gender "boxes" here we are again back to being a pair of high heels and girly haircut ffs

You ladies can have any of these 18 affirming haircuts.

Being incredibly brave, unique and special, I cut mine in the style of 'drunk teenager with blunt scissors', which affirms my inner gender perfectly.

This week I have mostly been AmongusGender, I would be fascinated to see what haircut I would be given.

Oh hang on, I thought I was cool but I'm actually rocking the #8 on @ArabellaScotts chart. Dang it.

Are "gender affirming haircuts" hair styles that conform to the those stereotypically worn by males / females in a person's particular society?

They aren't gender affirming haircuts, then, are they? They're stereotype conforming haircuts or stereotype imposing haircuts.

ArabellaScott · 03/11/2022 09:50

<whispers> gender = stereotypes, don't tell anyone or the game's a bogey

After one too many ridiculous gender missives from my well-meaning but utterly befuddled with batshittery children I theatrically cut my mid back hair into an ear length bob (a mix of 1 and 2 on the North Korean Lady-Hair scale) with the kitchen scissors and asked if they were all going to start calling me ‘Dad’ now?

it’s been a great terfy conversation opener ever since…

’Oh wow, Cloggie, you’ve had a pretty dramatic hair cut since I last saw you!’

’Yes, I did it myself with the kitchen scissors because the kids had latched onto some regressive, sexist idea that a girl who has short hair and wears trousers to school is magically transformed into being a boy!
Kids are well weird on this 2022 timeline, aren’t they?’

Wanderingowl · 03/11/2022 14:52

I usually have a bob, I figured it was one of the stereotypical 'woman' things about me, even though I cut it myself because I can't stand going to a hairdresser. (I don't use a kitchen scissors though, I have a special haircutting one from Boots.) Now I learn that it's instead further proof that I'm actually an enby. I'm glad the internet could keep on educating me this week.

Trans awareness? Are they kidding?! We are all very aware.

I feel 'the North Korean Lady-Hair scale' should be taught in schools as an adjunct to the Mermaids GI Joe/Barbie scale.
