To feel incredibly sorry for Eddie Izzard

I don't want to pity Eddie but I felt a wave of sadness after reading that Rosie Duffield (MP) said she would rather be arrested than refer to Eddie as a woman.

What I mean is, is he even capable of understanding why this is so egregious to so many of us?

He has been cheered on and affirmed all his life and it seems to me the underlying trauma which accompanies so many of these transgender identities has remained completely unexplored because of it.

And laser like wit and intelligence often hones in on one area, leaving someone incapable of even contemplating anything outside of that sphere despite being an absolute expert within it - also common alongside transgender identities.

Being a very funny man requires a very different set of skills from being a politian, but Eddie is well known, dazzling to some and oh so progressive, right!?

And I agree with the disappointment. It's rare that a comedian can be as original as he was. His 'Lego' schtick was a delight.

It's soo lowering that he, in my opinion, centres himself just as much as all these other men do. To the massive detriment of women everywhere. For someone who appeared so aware, his self obsession is depressing. It's like, are there any men on the planet he don't do this, whether identifying as a woman or not??

Interesting to see Sharron’s reply is getting more likes than Lucy’s original tweet. People have had enough (and we might be able to get a proper gauge of the true opinions amongst Twitter users now that Elon Musk has fired some of the top brass).

I have about as much sympathy for EI as he has towards the women and girls he’s insulting.

What the hell are Labour doing? They've made it impossible to vote for them.

At least there's some comfort in the comments. The tide has turned for the majority but these fools at the top have just not got the memo.

Shame in some contexts is good, it's part of our social structure, isn't it? Shame for theft, for example. How many times are we told " the defendent feels real contrition" in court cases. Is there contrition without shame?

Eddie Izzard is a bloke in a frock. Even if he were to have extensive surgery and hormones, he'll always be a man. Chromosomes determine gender and thus cannot be changed

i used the terms girl mode and boy mode (which are the terms EI uses) and said that he was a just another self promoting opportunist who used whatever he wanted for his own benefit. (paraphrasing now as i cannot recall the exact term).

I was not misgendering either because EI says he is relaxed about pronouns. So good of EI.

I even double checked what i posted at the time and it was nothing more scathing than anything else as far as i could see. [shrug]

In the first sentence appears the word 'self-serving'. Pretty much sums up all this bullshit, doesn't it?!

I suspect that Eddie Izzard's starting point is "I am not a creep". A young man can wear makeup and it's kind of edgy and even a bit cute when he talks about it onstage but that doesn't last. A 60 year old bloke who has a "girl mode" and uses ladies' toilets just comes across as creepy. So, Eddie Izzard can't be a bloke any more, at least not when she/he/whoever is in girl mode. QED.
