Standing for women - Portland rally cancelled over violent threats

Not quite sure what's happened - seems there were credible threats to women's lives over these protests.

Now it seems a few women went ahead and met up and were attacked. (Nobody seriously hurt as far as I can tell)

Hoping everyone is safe and well.

It is why there is so much about was it a woman or a man. The original macing I saw was clearly of a woman, it is in the full-length video. But Hoch's own tweet of it extracted has been removed.
Interested in whether anyone else thinks that man was an undercover cop? The anarchists I know seem to be sure about it.

IcakethereforeIam · 31/10/2022 15:19

The guy with the skull and axes logo, was he the one believed to be an undercover cop?

The person in the red hat who suddenly darts forward, raises her hand with an aerosol in it and gets sprayed. Red hat had silly string? That happened so fast. Tubby guy in black, wasn't the target but got caught.

Would that be the man standing at the front who got the spray full in the face? I wonder what he is doing going to all these protests?

antelopevalley · 31/10/2022 15:22

The guy with the skull and axes logo is believed by some to be an undercover cop. I don't know by the way. But some anarchist friends say they all look and act like him.

deepwatersolo · 31/10/2022 15:35

In light of the history of US police, I think there is a good chance some under-cover cop provoked violence and then used some child as a human shield to protect himself from retaliation. ;-)
And I am seriously not surprised that the TRAs/‚anarchists‘ are on the same side as the police. They have been acting as the stormtroopers of the establishment for quite some time now, not just in the Trans-context. Reminds me of the SA. Fighting fascism, my arse.

IcakethereforeIam · 31/10/2022 15:37

Didn't s&a logo seem to try to mace someone, just after the smug spitter got blocked by a sign, but get maced himself. If I'm recalling that correctly. If he's uc (which sfw couldn't have known) is irrelevant. I'd've thought an uc cop would have made an effort to hide his face, considering all the cameras and strong likelihood of posts on sm.

Red hat stepped forward very quickly with her arm raised to spray something, the sfw person acted faster and didn't initiate the interaction. I don't see the significance of whether or not red hat was female.

I have some sympathy for people who got caught in the cloud. I know nothing about the short and long term effects of mace. I hope long term effects are unknown or at least very, very rare.

antelopevalley · 31/10/2022 15:38

It is gender-critical women who call for the police to protect them.
Tacoma is a place where there has been police violence, especially towards black people. They are not the naive ones about the police.

antelopevalley · 31/10/2022 15:40

Also here "jokes" about the high school students being fat and how they look.

IcakethereforeIam · 31/10/2022 15:47

Shocking! The 'be kind' crowd never pass remarks about the age or appearance of women who are gc. No sirree, no death or rape threats either.

antelopevalley · 31/10/2022 15:48

@IcakethereforeIam So that means it is fine to make fat jokes and criticise the appearance of kids?
I have teenagers 14 and 16, and if adults made jokes like that about my teenagers on twitter I would be furious.

deepwatersolo · 31/10/2022 15:52

Police refused protection, though, antilop and the alleged under cover cop was really on the side of the storm troopers. And even if he wasn‘t an oc, the Police took sides by refusing protection of women and their free speech against the storm troopers that were sure to show up.
The lay of the land is very clear. Imagine mimicking the SA and at the same time believing to be anti-fascist.

RoyalCorgi · 31/10/2022 15:55

But if your teenagers went out intimidating a group of women, would you be furious with the teenagers? It would be nice to think that you would.

My teenagers would be grounded and would have their social media privileges revoked, so they wouldn’t get to read what adults thought of their terrible, inexcusable behaviour!

IcakethereforeIam · 31/10/2022 16:04

@antelopevalley fwiw nope for either side, I think she looks good in that get up. Twitter is a cesspit. If she was my kid, I'd be more concerned about her spitting and screaming at people, grateful that pepperspray was the worse she got and hopeful that there would be no other repercussions.

antelopevalley · 31/10/2022 15:40

Oh I read that tweet as them thinking SPITTING GIRL'S outfit was rather unflattering. But you are of cause correct, people have the right to wear whatever they want whilst spitting at strangers.

Hurty words on the Internet are of cause much much worse than physical assault in real life.

antelopevalley · 31/10/2022 16:12

I am not defening spitting. That is wrong.

ScreamingMeMe · 31/10/2022 16:14

Criticising a teenager's appearance is not on imo. I thought we were all about protecting youngsters and concerned about the ones who hate their bodies? Remember what it was like to be a teenager and the insecurities it brought and don't stoop to that level.

How about both are differing degrees of shitty behaviour?

ArabellaScott · 31/10/2022 16:20

Surely we can all agree that spitting, insulting people's looks, and aggression are all undesirable things?

It all still seems to be somewhat unclear what happened. I hope that anyone (on any side) that was hurt is okay and recovers.

That's how it works is it? A child does something objectionable and the gloves come off? Pepper spray, offensive sexist comments about her appearance, what else becomes acceptable?

I sincerely hope you have nothing to do with children.

Helleofabore · 31/10/2022 16:45

Yes, red cap sprays silly string stuff at Jeanna and Jeanna sprays them back with that spray. Around 21.55

At 39.07 the person who tells us they are 14 is shown spitting. They have the same necklace as in the video they posted of themselves.

Helleofabore · 31/10/2022 16:48

antelopevalley · 31/10/2022 15:40

Yes. This is needless and no one should be shamed because of this.

I hope you aren’t excusing children spitting at others?

That’ would be assault under UK laws.

antelopevalley · 31/10/2022 16:51

It would under UK laws be far more serious to mace kids in the face.
