Sorry I don't have a share token but the article claims that Dr Jacob Breslow has links to an organisation that promotes 'induviduals who are attracted to pedophiles'. Mermaids have removed him now but it does show how lax their safeguarding procedures are (yet again).

Dr Jacob Breslow ... gave a presentation at an event for the US-based B4U-ACT in 2011.
According to its website, B4U-ACT promotes services and resources “for self-identified individuals . . . who are sexually attracted to children and desire such assistance”.Records show that the academic...became a trustee of Mermaids..in July this year.

Look at this! NHS Black Country telling their staff not to signpost to Mermaids.

Excellent. Let's hope lots more follow suit.

In 2013-14 Breslow gave a presentation at the university of Warwick on (in his words) “queer children” entitled “Too bad you had to grow up”.

He really was hiding in plain sight, wasn’t he?

deepwatersolo · 08/10/2022 19:38

Reframing sexually abused, traumatized children as ‚queer‘ is just vile.
These are scars that can have a detrimental effect on the trajectory of one‘s life but as it is a convenient condition for his sexual desires Breslow tries to normalize it.
I sometimes think of the actor River Phoenix, who by his own account was sexually abused from early childhood (from 4 to 8 or so, I believe), when he was basically a street kid in Latin America. (His parents were in some kind of cult, and the kids were expected to contribute, by begging in the streets and so forth.)
As a successful teenage star it seemed like he had turned his life around. But then he turned to (heavy) drugs again. That coincided with his role in ‚my own private idahoe‘. The movie is about street kids who work as male prostitutes, and it also featured actual such street kids alongside River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves. The story was that River tried to dive into his role authentically and started drugs. But nobody can tell me this wasn’t a result of him facing his demons again. (And I sure wonder whether Gus van Sant kept a professional distance during such a project). Phoenix overdosed in his early twenties.
And now tell me again about the happily ,queer‘ kid.

You really don't! I think I have just come across it!
There is another pic of this person doing the rounds. Major red flag.

landyland · 09/10/2022 22:19

I mean I don't know what to say except you'd think he'd have taken his socks off!

Should be nowhere near confused children though.

Another one as bad as that?
(I usually like collage art, but that one kinda ruined it for me...)

He's quit his job at LSE, here's a link to his statement.

I do wonder if he jumped or was pushed

Interesting. I wonder if the reference to ongoing harassment is in relation to Jo Phoenix’s case which I think will bring evidence about the LSE Gender Studies department. Perhaps he doesn’t like being called to account. All just speculation. But I wonder…

TheClogLady · 02/08/2023 08:49

Am I right in thinking he was off sick for a whole year before resigning?

Perhaps he just ran out of full pay? Lecturers don’t have the sorts of contracts that will let you stay on the sick forever, IIRC?

Any sign of who got his job or is the dept taking the opportunity to downsize?

TheClogLady · 02/08/2023 08:54

I wonder if his visa was a work one and he is now back in the US? His website says he is ‘independent’ so he hasn’t moved to another university (yet).

Much of his recent output has been critiquing British tervism so probably not much call for that in the US? And Grace Lavery wants that job anyway…

Rightsraptor · 02/08/2023 08:58

Harassment hmm? I wonder how true that is, using any rational or legal definition of the word, anyway.

TheClogLady · 02/08/2023 09:03

The people (women, mostly) ‘harassing’ JB were the same people he had defamed/misrepresented in his papers!

Words have no meaning at LSE Gender Studies Dept, so perhaps by ‘harass’ he meant ‘object to my bullshit’?

Hoardasurass · 02/08/2023 09:19

@TheClogLady he was on sabbatical whilst this all blew over, unfortunately for him not only hasn't it but its got worse.
I would guess that LSE are quietly shitting themselves and are trying to limit their liability.

PriOn1 · 02/08/2023 09:33

A non sequitur is a bewildering statement that does not logically follow from a previous statement or question.

The irony of accusing women’s rights defenders of this is off the scale.

DarkDayforMN · 02/08/2023 09:56

He turned “no one is saying sex isn’t real” into a paper?

FFS. At least when it’s in Twitter format you get the entertainment value of some other TRA on the same thread arguing earnestly that of course sex isn’t real.

IvyTwines · 02/08/2023 10:01

Rather telling about the state of things, if the LSE or Breslow genuinely thought they could just wait a while and then get him back to working with young people.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 02/08/2023 10:09

man alive

my heart sinks when presented with that kind of thing

285 words to say...what? saying sex is real is not a sensible response to 'but I feel like a laydeeee insiiiiiiide'?

seems like a fully relevant and sensible response to me fella

Manderleyagain · 02/08/2023 21:51

So LSE did an investigation and found nothing wrong.
