Trustee of Mermaids quits after speech to paedophile aid group Times article

Sorry I don't have a share token but the article claims that Dr Jacob Breslow has links to an organisation that promotes 'induviduals who are attracted to pedophiles'. Mermaids have removed him now but it does show how lax their safeguarding procedures are (yet again).

Dr Jacob Breslow ... gave a presentation at an event for the US-based B4U-ACT in 2011.
According to its website, B4U-ACT promotes services and resources “for self-identified individuals . . . who are sexually attracted to children and desire such assistance”.Records show that the academic...became a trustee of Mermaids..in July this year.

It really does make me wonder what would have to come out for these hateful misogynistic men to finally say, 'hang on a minute'. Clearly the bar is much lower than a bloke who talks about ejaculating on kids.

The first mention of Mermaids in the last few days was his tweet today to whinge about the 'abuse' that Mermaids are receiving.

'A transgender charity has reportedly been banned from contacting a family after the mother forced her seven-year-old son to live as a girl.

Mermaids UK has also been criticised for advertising ‘same day’ cross-sex hormone treatments for children – a treatment banned by the NHS, because it causes irreversible changes and can compromise fertility later in life for anyone under 16.

In a High Court case, reported last year, Mr Justice Hayden removed the child – known only as ‘J’ – from his mother after finding she had caused him ‘significant emotional harm’ and ‘pressed [him] into a gender identification that had far more to do with his mother’s needs and little, if anything, to do with his own’.

After the judgement, the Sunday Times reported, the charity Mermaids attacked the ‘horrific decision’ and insisted that J did in fact identify as a girl, and said there was ‘no evidence at all to support this judge’s views’.

However, it has now been claimed that the charity has been ‘ordered to have nothing to do with this child following their removal’.'

I reckon from the statement from mermaids they are panicking whilst they run proper DBS checks on all their volunteers and paid staff. Is it true that anyone has been ringing the helpline giving abuse?? Or have journalists been ringing asking searching questions??

Owen Jones actually makes my blood run cold he's so revolting.

Given that so many of their activities pose a safeguarding risk - mixed age groups 13 - 16, sharing children's emails with other users, data breaches, giving "medical advice" to children below the age of consent, recommending struck off GPs to the same children, advocating children keeping secrets from parents and much more, it's hard to see what activities they can undertake that aren't a direct risk to children?

I can guarantee that whatever abuse they are getting it is not from women concerned about safeguarding. But no doubt we (particularly Mumsnet) will be blamed.

It's also worth noting that everything will now be framed "as a result of transphobic abuse" rather than "we recognise our failure to safeguard so many vulnerable children. 🙄

She claims it was men who were abusing the helpline volunteers. Firstly, surprised she is assuming someone’s gender? Surely just because they sound like men, doesn’t mean they are. According to her own view.

Secondly, how is she claiming it’s men so confidently?

Thirdly, that doesn’t fit the narrative that GC women are to blame

Who knows if there is any truth to the claims of abuse. Hopefully not, nobody should be subject to abuse.

Unfortunately there is a bit of 'the boy who cried wolf' going on, with hyperbolic claims of 'transphobic hate crime' which we all know can be basically fabricated out of thin air, or amount to someone 'misgendering' someone by accident.

I went to LSE. This makes me mad. Jacob Breslow has been a constant presence there since 2011 (shortly after I left thankfully). Why are they pretending they've only just heard about him and what his area of research is?

And how does a young, attractive, obviously clever guy get to a place where he's clearly a MAP, has tattoos of young male angels with penises and is advocating for paedophillia? And also, wtf is he studying and listing one of his specialisms as feminism!! I think every gender studies department in every university needs to be heavily scrutinised going forward. I am about to send my kids to UK universities. We are finding these people.
