Long twitter thread here. She's had her electronic devices seized too, and has been accused of being certain posters on Kiwi Farms and Mumsnet

@BernardBlacksWineIceLolly and @BreakWindandFire sorry to tag you but she's been accused of being you!

We all know who this will be, but as Caroline says, please don't speculate/discuss them.

What the fuck is going on here?

I thought the police had procedures to counter malicious and unfounded accusations?

'I said “do you have a warrant”, they said we don’t need one and this 6 foot 3 bloke forced his way in' - 😮

Quitelikeit · 04/10/2022 09:25

Actually I must be mistaken. I see this is the CPS stance as it’s taken from their website

^^^

RoyalCorgi · 04/10/2022 09:26

This is terrifying. Part of the reason it's scary is that you can be taken into policy custody for posting something nasty online. But even more scary is the fact that you can be taken into custody for something you didn't post: the police are treating a clearly false allegation as true, without any evidence whatsoever.

The College of Policing recently issued guidelines that outline "new safeguards to ensure people are able to engage in lawful debate without police interference."

Quitelikeit · 04/10/2022 09:22

May I ask what this is all about? I just read the Twitter feed.

is it about criticising the Trans community or something?

I thought a court had decided that free speech was allowed over beliefs regarding sexual identity?

Yes, I'd appreciate a summary as well if anybody has a spare two minutes and the inclination?

I do lurk on the feminism boards but not enough to recognise usernames so I don't fully understand what is happening.

Presumably Caroline is a regular poster, who is against TWAW? And somebody, a trans rights activist? is targeting her and has reported her to the police?

Quitelikeit · 04/10/2022 09:29

Actually I was correct new guidance was issued as posted above by royal corgi.

I guess the police believe they have met the threshold of ‘hostility’

FOJN · 04/10/2022 09:33

"I asked to see evidence of lots of allegations. The police said “we don’t have any yet, that’s why we are talking to you, to get your side.”

Apparently the police think they don't need a warrant to enter your home without consent and they don't need evidence to arrest you. Terrifying.

I wouldn't open the door to the police nevermind let them in my house.

I hope We Are Fair Cop are all over this.

beastlyslumber · 04/10/2022 09:33

This is utterly terrifying.

I hope Fair Cop and the FSU are on the case. Who is defending and protecting Caroline? This is disgusting harassment and bullying.

The police officers should be ashamed. I'd imagine most of them joined up wanting to fight crime. Now they are spending their days bullying women.

ArabellaScott · 04/10/2022 09:34

I hope she sues them to the arse end of time and back.

Hi there. Caroline has been explicit in asking people to not speculate or discuss anyone else, and the explanation we would normally give might involve a name or some names, hence no explanation forthcoming from me, sorry to be a bit cloak and dagger.

aweegc · 04/10/2022 09:42

Just coming on to add to the support - for what it's worth.

And I'd like to know who alive could have experienced what she has and not have feelings of self harm or more. It's a proper situation of a normal reaction to an ongoing, abnormal situation. I'm trying to be circumspect with my vocabulary here because I'm sure if I said exactly what I think the "abnormal situation" it, it could be used by someone else for a false claim of victimhood.

Dreikanter · 04/10/2022 09:43

I think that this has been coming down the pipeline for a while, hence CF posting in particular places under her own name and keeping receipts of her own activities and certain other posters’ activities on those specific places.

Surely it can only be a matter of time before vexatiousness and wasting police time means that this comes to an end?

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 04/10/2022 09:44

BorgQueen · 04/10/2022 08:40

I hope she gets fair cop involved and sues for wrongful arrest.
Why aren’t the police bothered about being used for malicious targetting and all the resources being wasted?

Absolutely this. SP I know was also challenging the police for keeping blacklists of people who had never been tried or convicted of any criminal offence.

A country with lists of personae-non-grata, and where people are now reaching a state of fearing a knock on the door. Have we really arrived in such a place?

I'm genuinely horrified.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 04/10/2022 09:50

The police are wasting their own damn time. Bad actors are always going to exploit the system, it’s on the cops to be less exploitable.

At the least, someone needs to develop a human rights and free speech training and make it compulsory for all the police forces that have been Stonewalled. (Actual human rights, not the human rights extended universe.)

I’d like to see punitive measures directed at cops that enable this shit but large scale retraining would at least be a start.

ImherewithBoudica · 04/10/2022 09:56

Surely it can only be a matter of time before vexatiousness and wasting police time means that this comes to an end?

As seen across multiple current issues being discussed on this board, there are boundaries and limits and checks and gatekeeping everywhere for some. And others who can do whatever they choose without the faintest boundary anywhere in sight.

This political lobby have successfully created a two tier society. The servers and the served. And the police have been very helpful and very stupid in enabling it.

Would our bloody government like to get a bloody grip please?

ArabellaScott · 04/10/2022 09:58

The policeman threatened to section her.

Am I the only one who thinks this sounds like targeted harassment by the police at this point?

Dreikanter · 04/10/2022 09:59

I see a barrister has also been subject to poor treatment by the police (all linked) and has been awarded damages from the Met. There’s a thread from a few days ago on Twitter.

picklemewalnuts · 04/10/2022 10:00

Sounds like misogyny. Classic, old style misogyny. Lock her away in an asylum, she's disagreeing with men.

cemma · 04/10/2022 10:01

In England the police don't need any prior authority or a warrant to enter and s32 search your house if you are to be arrested and present at the address..

heathspeedwell · 04/10/2022 10:02

I hope Suella Braverman steps in. She's already made the police apologise for wasting time on genderism.

All that Stonewall training has been a waste of our money in ways we'll never be able to calculate.

RoyalCorgi · 04/10/2022 10:03

Presumably Caroline is a regular poster, who is against TWAW? And somebody, a trans rights activist? is targeting her and has reported her to the police?

I'm hoping to answer this without revealing any information I shouldn't.

Caroline is a gender-critical campaigner. Politically she tends to the right, and she is married to a Catholic priest (a vicar who converted after marriage). They have five children, one of whom has autism. Over the years she has been targeted by trans activists many times - this is not the first time she has been interviewed by the police for comments she has allegedly made on social media. She has also in the past received threats.

This time the person who reported her appears to have decided that a handful of pseudonymous accounts on Mumsnet and Kiwi Farms are actually Caroline, though there appears to be no evidence for this. These pseudonymous accounts posted material that is allegedly offensive/hateful/anti-trans, though again the exact posts haven't been identified publicly.

I hope all that is OK - it's just to give some background for people who aren't familiar with the history.

SlagathaChristie · 04/10/2022 10:03

Useless police. Worse, actually: very useful to bad actors.

AlisonDonut · 04/10/2022 10:03

Caro has given enough info in her tweets to enable anyone to go to the forum in question and read up on the sustained harassment aimed at her by the persistent person and his GP friend, who was suspended from GPing due to his behaviour.

Make several coffees if you are genuinely interested in doing the research.

No, you're not.

People are seem to think that the police are naively allowing themselves to be used.

No. They are perpetrators and abusers.

RoyalCorgi · 04/10/2022 10:08

Is there anything we can do to offer our support?

Helleofabore · 04/10/2022 10:08

ArabellaScott · 04/10/2022 09:58

No. You are not the only one at all.
