Long twitter thread here. She's had her electronic devices seized too, and has been accused of being certain posters on Kiwi Farms and Mumsnet

@BernardBlacksWineIceLolly and @BreakWindandFire sorry to tag you but she's been accused of being you!

We all know who this will be, but as Caroline says, please don't speculate/discuss them.

Surely the police have to investigate though? The allegation could have been made ages ago. Maybe they’re only getting round to it now.

I’m not sure what a gender critical campaigner is but I’m interpreting it as if you are campaigning against trans then under the hate laws quoted above surely it would count as being hostile towards a protected group?

BloodyHellKen · 04/10/2022 10:11

So let me get this right, someone has posted something online that someone else has taken umbrage to. There were no threats of physical violence involved and no attempt to start any violence/terrorist activities. It is merely someone posting an opinion that someone else disagreed with and they have been arrested and have had their devices seized?

I'm struggling to comprehend why the police are wasting their time over an online disagreement. Aren't they supposed to be short staffed and paying more attention to proper crime ?

This is very sinister and I really hope Carolyn's story gets the press it deserves. I agree with a PP it is misogyny and it is appalling.

IcakethereforeIam · 04/10/2022 10:15

Has she been arrested by the same force that Suella Bravaman (sp?) got the apology off the other week?

Believerinbiology · 04/10/2022 10:17

Even worse than that Bloodyhellken....offence was taken to posts online and the offended person just decided a person they don't like posted them with no evidence. And the police acted on them pointing the finger.
Like when you are kids and tell on your sibling for something they didn't do just cos you want to get them in trouble, but unlike the police, your parents usually have the cop on to see straight through it.

Campaigning against enforcing people to pretend gender is factual rather than a social belief isn't against trans.
It's equivalent to saying campaiging against forcing everyone to pretend to believe in and follow the rules of a certain religion eg Catholicism is against catholics.
People wanting freedom to have their own beliefs and rights isn't against a certain group. To the contrary its supporting freedom of belief rather than enforcing pretence of belief to avoid persecution.

According to Caroline's tweet, the police officer told her that she had allegedly "written some insulting messages on the internet."

The word "insulting" potentially covers a very wide range of content. But I don't think there are any laws against being insulting.

Investigate what? They said they had no evidence and they barged into a woman's house, took all her equipment including IT, all her passwords, arrested her, held her, threatened to section her, searched her for drugs - for a meme?

omarcoming · 04/10/2022 10:21

This is terrifying.

CaveMum · 04/10/2022 10:22

I read the Twitter thread this morning. Utterly horrifying.

Believerinbiology · 04/10/2022 10:23

When actual threats of rape and other violence are made towards women under posters actual names/readily identifiable, women are told by police there's nothing wrong with it/ they shouldn't spend time online/ must have done something to warrant it. But if somebody else complains about a post made by an account with no evidence of who it belongs to they just have to point their magical finger at somebody for the police to be running to arrest them. Odd that.

Someone who doesn't like Carolyn claims 'she said something mean'. So the police are investigating.

Carolyn thinks she didn't say the mean thing (though can't be entirely sure what the mean thing is).

'Mean thing' could be that people can't change sex, so people mustn't invade single sex spaces by claiming to be that sex, if they are not.

That shouldn't be enough to get you arrested.

A disabled woman in wales was arrested for putting up stickers that highlight the rates of domestic abuse against women.

omarcoming · 04/10/2022 10:24

KF are documenting this in their thread this morning.

Dreikanter · 04/10/2022 10:26

TBF, given the meme involved I rather think it’s the Queen that has been traduced.

FlorettaB · 04/10/2022 10:26

I’m so pleased that the police have decided to investigate social media. Can we assume that they’ll be investigating all the threats of sexual/physical violence towards women made online? As those definitely break the law.

I don't think so. That was a Sussex force. She's Surrey I believe so it will be Surrey (or possibly Hampshire) police.

I'm in Surrey. Where at my local police station (mid sized commuter town, fair amount of crime) you can't even speak to a police officer anymore at the local police station, despite about 9 rainbow police cars being parked outside as I look now. Nor at any of the stations in 5 neighboring towns, as I discovered recently when I tried to report a road rage incident and get a crime reference. I had to drive over the border to London in the end, report it to the Met and get them to tell Surrey. Pathetic service. where is Lisa Nandy the P&C commissioner that I vot d for, despite her politics, because she told us this police harassment and gas lighting wouldnt happen anymore?

MsRosley · 04/10/2022 10:31

GCAcademic · 04/10/2022 08:25

That’s how I feel too.

Threatening to section her too. The police are vicious, power-crazed, misogynistic bastards in the pockets of MRAs.

Yup.

ImherewithBoudica · 04/10/2022 10:31

She also campaigns against abortion and same-sex parents

Having views you do not like is not justification for the police to enforce a political agenda and not the actual law of the country.

I am beyond tired of this childishness. Not agreeing with someone is not an excuse to behave badly.

You could probably just call CF a right leaning Christian who (along with a very large proportion of people) doesn’t believe anyone can change sex.

MsRosley · 04/10/2022 10:34

I hope that Caroline sues the arse off those bastards.

Sonnex · 04/10/2022 10:34

AlisonDonut · 04/10/2022 08:54

It does exist, I've just been looking at the memes.

She said helpfully.

That's why I said supposedly doesn't exist anymore. According to twitter keffal 'took down kw' remember?

Yet more ridiculous nonsense we're all supposed to go along with.

Hugocat1 · 04/10/2022 10:36

Is this Surry Police again 😱

Ive been reading Caroline’s feed this morning. This is outrageous and surly illegal?

Sonnex · 04/10/2022 10:37

Lisa Townsend not Lisa Nandy!

littlbrowndog · 04/10/2022 10:37

Just read Caroline Twitter. feed

And? Those are pretty mainstream views within Catholicism. Is the Catholic Church a hate group which should be outlawed?
