There is going to be a women's rally outside of Holyrood (Scottish Parliament) on Thursday 6th October. Gather for 11.15am for a 11.30 start. It's the one delayed from Sept 15th.

The focus of the rally (and the timing, during what is normally First Minister's Questions) is the Gender Recognition Reform Bill that is currently going through the Scottish Parliament and the impact on Scottish women's rights.

The following speakers will be there so do come along and listen, mingle, network and then come for a drink :

Cllr Alison Dowling
Elaine Miller ("fanny physio", Gusset Grips)
Lisa Mackenzie (Murray Blackburn Mackenzie)
Rhona Hotchkiss (LGB Alliance)
Helen Joyce (Sex Matters)
Maya Forstater (Sex Matters)
Johann Lamont (retired Labour MSP)
Caroline McAllister (Scottish Feminist Network)
Kate Coleman (Keep Prisons Single Sex)

The rally is organised by For Women Scotland and all are welcome to attend.
If you are coming from out of town, or even from within Edinburgh, and would appreciate some company walking into the rally (which might sound a bit intimidating if you haven't been to one before) then get in touch as there will be a couple of meeting places organised.
Looking forward to seeing you there.

Michael Matheson Is wrongly listed as Labour - he's SNP & I am properly shocked & delighted that he was there. I have been speaking & writing to him about this for years (& he stopped writing back over a year ago!!)

WHAT?

was he lost?

BetsyM00 · 09/10/2022 02:38

Think that was a mistake, it was Michael Marra from Labour who came outside.

Glad to see Daniel Johnson was there, always thought he was a good 'un and he will continue to have my vote despite some of his colleagues' best efforts.

Well done to all who took part and made it happen.

Very interesting that Euan McColm suggests that legal action by those who believe self ID is not the way to proceed is likely to halt (delay) progress of the Bill. Does anyone know what this is likely to be and will there be a crowdfunder?

Not being in Scotland is frustrating because unsure of what to do to help (apart from backing FWS). Watching out for this opportunity.

This is all so depressing as it it is so predictable that the bill will go through despite the consultations, the protests, the letter writing, they just don’t care and I think that a lot of their voters will get a shock once the full implications of the SNP’s “progressive “ politics are realised.

There was a legal challenge against the Named Person law @SerotinaPickeler but I can't remember any details of it now, like who or what organisation contested it.

seXX · 09/10/2022 09:00

Apologies if this has already been posted but here's a video with all the speeches

Sorry, don't think last link worked:

That makes far more sense!

Ahh well it was a nice moment of thinking he'd grown a backbone.

I think the details will be here

I've just done my email. I wasn't even aware of the existence of the writetothem website before I came onto FWR - it's brilliant and so easy to use.

I've got a couple of MSP's who reply in a positive way, one or two who reply to basically say 'progressive and TWAW' and a few who simply ignore my email.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 10/10/2022 09:24

Also sent my emails and I am grateful to FWS for the draft. They are amazing
