“Subscribing to a narrative which concludes that trans women using women's toilets has a deleterious effect on women's rights is wrong headed and offensive.”

Wrong headed and offensive to who? Men? Fuck women and girls though eh?

Once you allow male bodied people into women’s safe spaces - whatever they ‘identify’ as - you allow ALL men in. What don’t you get about that? Are you so ‘wrong headed’ you can’t see the obvious threat to biological women?

If men wanted to attack women in women's toilets, they would go ahead and do so and not stop to apply lipstick and heels before they did so.

Do explain the reference to "lipstick and heels"? Sounds a bit transphobic to me.

Not to mention sexist. A woman is someone who wears lipstick and heels?

BloodAndFire · 02/10/2022 17:34

@babarandceleste
If men wanted to attack women in women's toilets, they would go ahead and do so and not stop to apply lipstick and heels before they did so.

If men wanted to abuse children, they will do all they can to do so. So shall we not bother with DBS? Safeguarding policies? Chaperones? Social workers? Any of the practices intended to reduce the rate of child abuse and to make it more difficult for abusers to target their victims?

Deliriumoftheendless · 02/10/2022 17:39

You’re right bloodandfire - I have to be DBS checked every time I start a new job and it’s very hurtful to me for people to assume I’d hurt a child. I absolutely should not have to go through the humiliating process of applying for a piece of paper that proves I’m not a predator. I know loads of school staff and they’re all lovely, they just want to help children and bad people will be abusive anyway- oh and kids do it too!

(clearly I’m being sarcastic, I’d never get rid of DBS checks, child safety is too important to put an adult’s feelings first).

Sorry I was being sarcastic. I should have put transphobic in " "

babarandceleste knows that in reality TW = man + lipstick + heels (or + some other feminine stereotype). Otherwise why would a man have to apply those items to pretend to be a TW?

I love how you had to make it clear you were being sarcastic. But you did have to. Because babarandceleste, along with the rest of the "rape happens so why bother trying to stop it happening more" brigade are actually deadly serious when they say it, so we can no longer assume that people realise or care about how absurd, offensive and dangerous the statement is.

Subscribing to a narrative which concludes that trans women using women's toilets has a deleterious effect on women's rights is wrong headed and offensive.

Oh don't be so silly. Nothing has to be dressed up all the time in this pretentious claptrap - 'subscribing to-'.... no. For goodness sake.

There are pages and pages and pages of threads here of women explaining, in detail, exactly why this does not work for them, negatively affects them, excludes them.

If you think it's more important to pander to male wishes than that females can have equal access to spaces and resources, own it.

If you think its more important to make political speeches and shame women than to listen to and care about female voices, own it.

If you think it's important enough to service your politics and feel good about how very cool you are that you don't care that many females cannot use mixed sex spaces, that this is not a fixable situation for them, and that they are excluded, harmed, subordinated, cut out of public life? Own it.

Face up to the bloody problem love. Women are telling you the facts. Look them in the face and either say 'I hadn't bothered stopped to listen to you or realise the problems' or 'I hear you, but I don't care because males and politics matter more to me than females'. (Which would be the modern version of male supremacism if you want to play silly games with 'just sayin'). Have the bloody guts to own your own convictions. One or the other. This silly scolding stuff is getting beyond tedious.

terryleather · 02/10/2022 18:25

Personally, it's about the very concept of a 'solution'.
The men who want to use women's spaces are using the women in them. It's not the space, it's the women in them that validate their 'gender identity'.
And for many, it's a paraphilia. And even those for whom it isn't, it's still a boundary violation. And a sense of entitlement that means they can use women's spaces, set up to address sexism, for their own ends. It's sexism on steroids.
So I'm not happy even being asked to consider the concept of solving that problem for these men.
The very most I will offer, is telling them to keep out of women's spaces. And I will simultaneously campaign to expose the sexism underlining the ideology.
My 'solution' is to dismantle the ideology. Not provide a means to make it more acceptable, or accommodate it.

Well fucking said Datun.

TheKeatingFive · 02/10/2022 18:37

Why are you so threatened by anyone transitioning?

I don't think anyone here is threatened by someone transitioning.

They're threatened by male bodied people in their single sex spaces.

Hope that clears it up!

So good it needs saying twice.

And yes yes to the stupid, faux-breezy "just saying, peeps" which quickly shifts to the pompous "subscribing to a narrative...." drivel. Pick a shit, insincere rhetorical tactic and stick with it.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 02/10/2022 18:42

babarandceleste · 02/10/2022 16:29

Don't shoot the messenger but transphobia is this century's equivalent of homophobia peeps. Just saying.

No, it isn't.

LGB people have merely campaigned for exactly the same rights as the rest of society has taken for granted since time immemorial. To live without discrimination, love and marry a partner of their choice, and legally order their family affairs. Not one of these eminently reasonable expectations impacts negatively upon other people.

The campaign for trans rights - trans people in any case already having all the above rights - is something different entirely. It involves the ceding over of protected spaces, sports in which natal male bodies have a material advantage, even the eroding of language used to refer to natal females, to people who are not female. 'Inclusion' is designed to make such people feel comfortable, to the detriment and exclusion of women, who if they raise even mild objections surrounding their concerns are labeled 'bigot', doxed and threatened online, and in extreme (and less extreme) cases are even losing their livelihoods.

That this has the potential to socially, materially and physically harm women isn't in question. So how does wanting a rational discussion about the issues this poses to in any way resemble homophobia?

TheClogLady · 02/10/2022 18:46

Subscribing to a narrative which concludes that trans women using women's toilets has a deleterious effect on women's rights is wrong headed and offensive.

Yeah? Well…
Female people making and maintaining their own boundaries has always been offensive to male people.

The best way to resolve this age-old conundrum is for male people to stop being offended.

Happy to help!

Abhannmor · 02/10/2022 18:47

Just so.

p.s. grow up

Datun · 02/10/2022 16:44

Women wanting to uphold their rights isn't 'transphobia.'

Absolutely. And trans activists redefining "same-sex attracted" as "same-gender attracted" is real and actual homophobia.

I also see that Stonewall still hasn't condemned the attack on Fred Sargeant, who was present at the very same-sex rights riot that the organisation is named after. We know who the real homophobes and haters are, thanks very much, babarandceleste.

Fortunately no one took photos of anyone using the ladies lavatory (nor the gents lavatory or any unisex provision) so there is no bog-photographer TO cheerlead outside of your own fevered imagination.

I’m marvellous, thanks for asking!

Eddy Izzard uses ladies loo in Sheffield.
TheBiologyStupid · 02/10/2022 21:34

lemmein · 01/10/2022 15:46

Eddie Izzard is transgender. She uses female pronouns, and I would have no problem using the loo whilst she or any other transgender woman was in there. I usually lock the cubicle door

If these magic locks on toilet doors prevent sexual assault and intimidation why can't TW just use the locks in the male toilets? 🤔

Absolutely!

Sparagmos · 02/10/2022 21:35

I remember Izzard when it was all 'equal clothing rights', nothing about gender. I don't understand how it could become then so pressing to 'identify as a woman' in his 50s. Also 'girl mode'?! I have found him intelligent and entertaining in the past, but this seems narcissistic in extremis.

You're about 8 pages too late, it's already been established that the door to that toilet opens directly on to the main room of the venue, no toilet-stalking required.

Ah yes, of course. The 12th rule of misogyny.

  1. Women’s ability to recognize male behavior patterns is misandry.

We cant have women recording men violating women's boundaries, can we?

Women warning each other about male pattern behaviour? Whatever next.

Tut.
