Transwomen in women's prisons - what's the problem?

This is one of the many fraught conversations I've had with a friend recently. She acknowledges incidents happen where a TW harms a female inmate, and agrees that is terribly wrong. However, where I say the problem is that the TW s claimed gender identity is prioritised over their sex, she says the prison system should be better at screening prisoners as often these incidents involve a TW who has previously been a risk to women, so, why were they housed with women?
She does have a point, but I think that gender identity based policies makes it hard to put this kind of screening in place... I'm finding it hard to argue it though, so maybe I'm just wrong. Thoughts?

Real life examples are "anecdotal" evidence and usally havent been tested in court. MY evidence is real academic scientific evidence. Yes of course people want things personalised but we cant form public policy from it. EWe only have transwomen in female prisons because of this individual cases of transwomen killing themselves in male prisons. Had anyone looked at it with their brain they would have said, Im afraid suicide happens in prisons and let us compare those numbers with the numbers of sucicides of gay men, men with special educational needs. I 'get* that indvidualised cases make it human but POLICY and LAW must be based on HARD SCOIENTIFIC evidence.

Did you know about the other suicide in a male rpison?

WQe do not know WHY they killed themselves but there are TWO very reasonable possibilities:

1. they discovered they really were not man enough & couldnt tell the prison authorities that tthey really did need to be in a female prison after all.
2. they were raped
