Labour Party Conference

I know that there is a hell of a lot going on elsewhere, but what's happening with Gender Issues (for want of a better phrase) at Labour Party Conference?
Last year, it was an enormous issue, and the year before that. I'm assuming that Labour are forging ahead with Self-ID and hoping that voters are so desperate that they will put up with it.

You're right. Joan Smith describes the situation better than I could.

TooBigForMyBoots · 26/09/2022 14:48

I'm not sure it matters at this point. By the end of this parliamentary term women will have lost the right to single sex spaces. Con MP Jamie Wallis is "becoming a woman".🙄 The day he walks into the HoC women's toilets wearing his best twinset and pearls, it's all over.

IcakethereforeIam · 26/09/2022 14:54

If the Labour women's meeting gets protested/attacked, Starmer should stand up and condemn the protestors.

MaMaLa321 · 26/09/2022 15:25

Thanks for the Unherd article Imnobody4. I've subscribed on the basis of that.
And, yes, it does matter. Jamie Wallis is an outlier. The significant thing is that Labour is on record to say that it will amend the GRA, and support Self-ID. The Tories, for all their faults, halted the amendment of the GRA.
Last year, the volume of push-back against Labour was immense, and it seems to have dwindled to nothing.

This is rubbish.

The EHRC have issued new guidance and the gov are updating the Statutory Code to align with the new guidance. Service providers have much more clarity. do listen to the Attorney General's recent speech.

Do you often catastrophise like this? Too much of it can lead to depression.

TooBigForMyBoots · 26/09/2022 15:42

This government is trying to abolish the ECHR. I have listened to Suella Braverman. Pretty words, but soon after a teacher was fired for refusing to use preferred pronouns. Just as Priti Patel made a statement about male bodied folk in women's prisons. A few weeks later another man in women's prison issue.

Actions, not words. The Tories unleashed the Conservative policy of Self ID on us and cba putting the genie back in the bottle.

JW will wear a nice frock, buy his GRC and that's it for women's rights to single sex spaces. What makes you think he won't @Hepwo?

Hepwo · 26/09/2022 15:59

I haven't said anything about what the guy will or won't wear, I simply don't share your catastrophic perspective.

TooBigForMyBoots · 26/09/2022 16:17

I'm not catastrophising, I am addressing the elephant in the room. An elephant camouflaged by a blue rosette.

You are basing this on nothing, as usual.

They have made it very clear they will not institute self ID. They've made it clear that schools must have separate sex facilities. They've started having government organizations withdraw from SW schemes. They closed the Tavistock.

They also have made all kinds of moves towards walking back on other policy elements. It is filtering down to the civil service and other state organizations like schools, but this takes time as they are not controlled directly.

You aren't convincing anyone at this point, you just look increasingly desperate.

MangyInseam · 26/09/2022 16:29

And it's clear you goal is to stop people talking about the Labour Party and what they are doing on this subject.

MaMaLa321 · 26/09/2022 16:33

So you don't remember the Tories actively making a decision not to amend the GRA last year? You think it didn't happen?

Jamie Wallis has taken no steps to transition as far as I can tell.

The Labour Party does have form at constituency level for appointing women's officers with male bodies. The LP also investigated longstanding member Anna Ruzylo following accusations of transphobia made by the charming Lily. The way the LP handled things resulted in the entire executive committee of the Battle and Bexhill Constituency resigning in protest and support for Anna Ruzylo. Lily has also faced multiple accusations from female acquaintances of sexually inappropriate behaviour.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lily_Madigan

Eddie Izzard also thinks he's in with a chance of selection in Sheffield. Good job Eddie shares Labours views on how unimportant women are. Miranda Yardley was treated like a pariah for disagreeing with them on trans issues which was slightly awkward as Miranda is a TW, can't remember if he (MNHQ these are the correct pronouns for Miranda) left the party or was kicked out in the end.

I wonder how Labour Women's Declaration are getting on at the conference? Silly me, I forgot they had their booking for a stall cancelled. KS will probably probably speak to them in another four years time.

TooBigForMyBoots · 26/09/2022 16:41

If the Labour Party still exist in 4 years time.

TooBigForMyBoots · 26/09/2022 16:44

Back in April, JW said he was beginning his transition as soon as possible. Do you know him @FOJN?

No I don't know him, do you?

I know what he said in April but the green leather mini skirt and high heels have yet to make a reappearance. He also said it would probably take years for him to transition. He won't need any medical intervention for his wardrobe so what's stopping him?

I share Old Crones scepticism.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 26/09/2022 17:18

Oh look - the stand that LWD wanted wasn't allocated after all. So they used it to make a point. Quelle surprise!

FOJN · 26/09/2022 17:32

That is terrible PR for the Labour Party. Well done to the women (or men) who took the initiative there. The Casual Vacancy reference in the tweet is a nice touch.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 26/09/2022 17:38

It makes it very clear that Labour are determined to lie and deny in order to silence women. Zero concerns for child safeguarding and women's rights.
Idiots.

BlackForestCake · 26/09/2022 21:19

I just want to make one point among all the rather pessimistic posts on this thread.

At the last Labour Conference the feminist fringe meeting (WPUK I think?) was besieged by a howling mob. Several delegates expressed support from the conference stage for the mob. Only one solitary Labour MP, Thangam Debbonaire, dared suggest that trying to shut down a feminist meeting by intimidation wasn’t great. Nobody else spoke up for the political freedom of women.

This year’s meeting two MPs spoke at it, and at least one other sent a message of support.

The dam is breaking.

We will win eventually because no matter how many laws are passed, men still won't really be women.

MaMaLa321 · 26/09/2022 21:55

who were the MPs who spoke?

OP posts:
TooBigForMyBoots · 26/09/2022 23:53

I'm delighted to see LWD highlighting Labour's attempt to shut women up. It takes bravery and commitment to make a stand against your own and left wing feminists have it in spades.Grin

Am I coming across as "desperate" @MangyInseam? Maybe I am. Today, another fucking sex offender was put into women's jail by our Tory government. The party who brought us the Conservative policy of Self ID. The party who haven't stopped it. And the party that will deny us our rights to single sex spaces forever as soon as one of their own dons his miniskirt.

That's on top of the Tory policy disasters that will see more women poorer, more abused and sexually exploited women and children in the UK. Labour aren't the problem right now, hopefully groups like LWD will be able to get through to them before they get into power. The Tories are the problem.

Seriously, I feel like June's ma in the Handmaid's Tale.

MangyInseam · 27/09/2022 00:04

We all know your goal is to distract from discussion of the LP conference. Start another thread if you want to talk about something else.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 27/09/2022 07:17

I strongly suspect that Starmer wishes the whole issue would just quietly disappear.

Sausagenbacon · 27/09/2022 08:04

For the nth time toobig. Are you aware that the tories halted reforming the GRA, and Labour, in their manifesto, have committed themselves to reforming it and bringing in self-id?
