Men in women's changing rooms

Just been into Marks and Spencer's changing rooms and there was a man sat outside the cubicle waiting for his partner. Right next to the big mirror where you come out and look. I didn't feel comfortable at all and wouldn't come out of the cubicle to show my friend the dress. I spoke to the member of staff and she said it was a recent change and men can go into the what was ladies changing rooms now because a few men have kicked off recently when refused entry. I feel pretty angry about this. Interestingly there was a sticker inside my friend's changing room as attached. Not put there by Marks. What do others think?

Ignoring the meeeeerail 🙄

the video of that poor young girl is a perfect encapsulation of how bad the problem is. She blames herself for her feelings & absolves primark of responsibility because she’s had beeee kiiiind force fed at her for years. She doesn’t understand that her feelings at having 2 men walk in on her while she’s undressing are entirely right! Of course she feels scared, of course she feels violated and mostly she feels confused. She’s been taught there’s no problem with men in women spaces and even been told that men presenting as women are even more vulnerable than actual women. And yet look at how she feels….The cognitive dissonance must be of the scale for her

BirdinaHedge · 24/09/2022 18:02

Excellent analysis @Theeyeballsinthesky

Musomama1 · 24/09/2022 20:45

I'm sure it's a maturity thing. Young girls often blame themselves when things go wrong. We need more young girls to get angry!

Moggyd · 24/09/2022 23:13

"Are you happy with it?
Are you going back?
If not, trust me we will and we do spend a lot of money there as our local M&S staff are great and we don't want it to close down.

My wife has never felt uncomfortable"

@JamesBondOO7 you crack on then.

So I used to use individual cubicles to try on clothes but come into the main bit to see what a dress looked like in the big mirror or get the attendants view or a friend. It meant I was more Likely to buy it. I don’t see why men have to sit in the changing room area and they shouldn’t be alllowed to. If I needed to show a male friend what I was trying on I would go to the entrance to the changing room.

@Stopsnowing this in a nutshell!

@JamesBondOO7 why is this simple concept so difficult for you to understand! Many women on this thread have said the same so why are you being so disrespectful by telling us we shouldn't be feeling this way. Oh wait, you're a man who goes into changing rooms and makes women feel uncomfortable and you just don't care.

Thank you though because you are perfectly demonstrating the male view that led me to write this post.

Why do I suspect Mr Bond’s wife gets every moment of every day mansplained to her? She’s probably completely brow beaten.

properdoughnut · 25/09/2022 08:45

I didn't feel unsafe in changing rooms before but I do now! I think I've been terribly naive and hope I haven't been caught by a perv with a camera phone.

No, thank you for allowing me a male and women her to demonstrate that those that shout the loudest like you are not in the majority

I've made clear in some of my posts we are of Indian vulture and my wife, and other family women have no propeblem with it nor have millions of other women that frequently use M&S and other retailers that have mixed hanging rooms.

Not everyone agrees with everyone but I know for a fact the millions that vote with their feet and still shop at M&S and the like

Thanks

well no

lots of people don’t know that they are mixed sex changing rooms….and lots of people order online and don’t use the changing rooms

so not a fact

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 25/09/2022 09:14

And your wife hasn’t demonstrated anything

in the same way my husband hasn’t

Stopsnowing · 25/09/2022 09:20

I still don’t understand why men think they should be in women’s changing rooms or why m and s allows this and puts chairs there rather than outside like they used to.

Howdoyoulikeyourtea · 25/09/2022 10:14

Personally I find the fact that @JamesBondOO7 feels a thread of women saying they feel unsafe/uncomfortable by men in a womens space is a good place to put themselves in, especially to tell us we are wrong, is an excellent example of how bloody entitled and uncaring some men are.

LovinglifeAF · 25/09/2022 10:56

BirdinaHedge · 24/09/2022 17:16

And now this on Twitter/TikTok

https://twitter.com/SusanMee9/status/1573682979464937473

Can we all boycott Primark? This poor lass - in tears after twice being harassed. by men in a Primark unisex changing room. Her cubicle curtain was drawn - absolutely a sign that someone is in there.

She tells us that the security guards knew this was going on.

So, Primark, how many more women are to be harassed before it is too many women?

I saw this last night, absolutely heartbreaking. And still the poor woman presumably felt the need to say that she supported the mixed sex changing rooms.

I don’t get why any men need to be there. Sometimes you might come out of a changing room when a zip doesn’t fasten etc to get the assistant who wants some random guy sitting there like a lemon when you do that? Why is it even necessary for guys to be there? Can’t their partner walk out of the changing area to show them the outfit if they want their partner’s opinion?

What's that meme?

"At last, a man enters the room to tell us his opinion."

Please stop misrepresenting my posts as I've clearly given examples of my wife, other ladies in the family using those rooms with no concerns and millions of other women that happily go to M&S and buy clothing as well as other retailers with a similar policy.

Additionally, as the rooms are for Males and females I have a right to respond as well and on behalf of my wife and daughter whom I've asked and they said they are not concerned.

So why has M&S and others using the same practice not back tracked? NB: This is a rhetorical question.

A massive pat on the back to M&S staff and the decisions making people!

OverTheHillAndDownTotherSide · 25/09/2022 12:27

You’re actually making me feel sick now. I’m sure it’s not “millions of women” shopping at M+S now. Their shopper base is falling.

My daughter will be fighting against this - with her voice and her feet. She’s 11 and already understands this is wrong. Are the women in your life allowed their own social media accounts or do you just speak for them regardless? Are they aware of the risk to them of being recorded undressed? Raped? All things that have happened in mixed sex changing rooms.

as ive already said

lots of women don’t know that the changing rooms are mixed sex, many women buy items and try them on at home and many women order online and don’t go near a store

your ‘millions’ has no basis in reality

You’re outnumbered on this thread, JamesBond, on this site, and in real life. Your sample of 3, if we believe you, isn’t statistically significant.

Take it to M&S. I'm happy with their stance and if you are not take it to M&S and other retailers.
I'm sure you already have, so why is the policy still there?
