M&S Changing Rooms

It seems from these threads that M&S have decided that people can 'choose' which changing rooms they wish to use at their stores whilst not actually clearly marking them as mixed sex:

Glad I’ve chosen not to give M & S any money for a while now. They, H & M, Primark , John Lewis etc are a a disgrace.

ParvuliThankYouDebbie · 24/08/2022 14:15

Why are they concluding all of their tweets with, what sounds like, a suspiciously sarcastic ‘Thanks’ ?

nauticant · 24/08/2022 14:45

It goes deeper than that for M&S:

We've been boycotting M&S for a couple of years now - glad others are catching up.

Foxglove22 · 24/08/2022 15:12

I feel really angry - sorry, I'm a bit late to the party on this. I expect this sort of shit from shops like Primark and H&M because they're pandering to the younger generation, but M&S - what the heck? I was trying bras on in one of their shops the other day and thinking about it now makes me feel sick.

Those messages are the only ones without a named sign off. All other queries get a 'thanks, Sian' etc.

DOBARDAN · 24/08/2022 15:32

I gave M&S the elbow a long while ago, for this very reason, along with a few other stores who have declared an open to all system for their changing rooms.
The link which nauticant provided is another good reason never to set foot in an M&S store again, or from them online.

TooHot2022 · 24/08/2022 15:44

I stopped using the changing rooms in the lingerie dept of our local M&S after a grim discovery of a creamy white substance dripping down the mirror (think egg white... not).
Reported to a member of staff who rolled her eyes saying 'not again' and retrieved a spray bottle and cloth from under the counter - looked designed for the purpose and used regularly 😬

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/08/2022 15:54

Didn't Marks and Spencer advertise themselves as a safe place for women who felt worried someone was following them? It was in the wake of Sarah Everard being murdered on her way home.

RHOAD · 24/08/2022 15:56

Well, all stores are doing it now so I guess they needed to join in as well. I was shocked when I saw a full grown man in the ladies changing room in Primark.

movingcastle · 24/08/2022 16:06

I had a temp Xmas job at m&s years ago when I was a student. They didn't let the young female staff manage the changing room in the lingerie section, leaving it to the much older and more experienced women who could keep out the w*nkers (apparently there were some repeat customers). I had no idea that was a thing before that.

Yes, they did.

This policy can only happen if women finance it.

As long as women shop in shops that let men in the womens changing room, they keep making money & they'll keep letting men in.

If every woman in the country boycotted the womens section of M&S, they'd soon remember what a biological woman actually is.

I haven't been in there since their changing rooms became mixed sex & I won't be.
I also don't use them online.

If you don't want to need a uv light to check the clothes & cubicles for biological deposits when you try them on in their changing rooms, don't spend money there until they show some respect for their actual customers & keep biological men out of womens spaces.

Nothing they sell is so special you can't find it somewhere else.

Brideandpredjudice · 24/08/2022 16:58

This is atrocious. They just don't care about people from other cultures. I'm a gypsy and this excludes me too.

Any suggestions of places to shop that haven't given into this?

HardRockOwl · 24/08/2022 17:26

John Lewis partnership are the worst for all of this. I couldn't move in Waitrose the other day for the rainbows everywhere - from lanyards to till dividers.

They're just so desperate to display their woke credentials

Ffs. Any male, however he identifies should be changing in the male changing room. Let the men in there deal with that sort of stuff. Unpleasant as it is for them, they will be less intimidated.

Marks & Spencer is really showed their true colours. There is absolutely nothing stopping them nominating one changing room as a gender neutral one. The amount of times it will be used is minimal.

And once you stop the opportunity to be validated, or wank in a female environment, the changing room won't matter.

And yes, , it's been going on for years, now. As a result of transactivism.

M&S don't care about the protected characteristic of sex, but they might care about the protected characteristic of religion.

I can't imagine... I don't know...

You win the Internet.

I stopped buying from M&S years ago when I realised they allowed men into their changing rooms. Stopped buying online as well. Don’t even visit the cafe. Only time I buy anything from M&S is occasional food from motorway service stations where there is no other choice.

Plasmodesmata · 24/08/2022 17:57

I think they should be honest. When you go to a public toilet where there may be a male cleaner present, there's a sign on the door to warn you. M+S should put their "we allow people to choose which changing rooms they'd like to use" policy in big letters on a poster as you enter so that women are aware.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 24/08/2022 18:05

They’ve getting ratio’d to fuck but I diy f it’ll change anything

funny how 1 or 2 men complain and a whole policy is changed but thousands of women saying “no we don’t want this” is easily ignored

it’s almost like we live in a world where men are listened to over women 🤔

MrsOvertonsWindow · 24/08/2022 18:14

Many of us cancelled our accounts when M & S made their changing rooms mixed sex but were too cowardly to admit to it to their customers. Presumably because they knew that women didn't want to have their bra fittings alongside men, but lacked the integrity to be open about their obsession with Stonewall and all the other dodgy groups.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/08/2022 18:14

I expect zero effect. How many of their regular clothes shoppers are on twitter? What are the chances that an M&S store in Reading will sell fewer Per Una women's jeans this week because of the twitter threads?

Boke 🤢

BeenHereAWhileNow · 24/08/2022 18:29

I have stopped shopping in M&S, except occasional food but that is much reduced as well.

I buy all clothes for my husband and sons as none of them are interested in clothes so M&S & John Lewis were mainstays so not using either is a pain in the arse. However M&S and John Lewis clearly dont care about customer retention so I have been finding alternatives.

Handsoffmyrights · 24/08/2022 18:30

I also stopped shopping at M&S when this made the news.

Also, I would not want my bra fitted by a man, which was/is the case at a London branch of the store. I'm confident enough to say I want only a female to fit my bra, but as the bra fitter in question self identifies as a woman, then no doubt there'd be some TRA drama around that.
