They're a bit thick if they haven't worked out they can just write "Mixed-sex toilets".

WolverineBluey · 22/08/2022 16:58

This makes me furious. It was realising that women have every right to contest this bullshit that took me over the mountain. This is not fair. "They know better than you", put up and shut up? No.

Choconut · 22/08/2022 17:10

What they don't seem to understand is that bathrooms are for different sexes, not different genders. I don't care what their gender is - but yes I do seem to know better than them what their sex is if TW are using the female toilets.

Hoardasurass · 22/08/2022 17:16

What about my safety being taken away?
Why should I protect a man instead of protecting women

Wellies54 · 22/08/2022 17:24

If the toilets are unisex, just say that. And maybe do a survey to find out how many women support unisex loos. Alternatively, if they say male and female, this is what they should be. To try to divide toilets by gender identity is meaningless. Why can't someone artistic come up with a sign for male toilets with a lovely rainbow and symbol welcoming men, transwomen and non- binary males. Put up lots of posters in there about respect, a mirror, space to do make up and nice, fragrant hand soap - and ensure they're clean! Surely that's inclusive and clear and then women and transmen and nonbinary females can feel safe in our own toilets.

oviraptor21 · 22/08/2022 17:28

Awful. Just awful.
Just knocking another university off my list for my MSc. Probably none that aren't captured though.

PeriodBro · 22/08/2022 17:30

The worst thing about this is the coy euphemism 'rest rooms'. I mean, you don't go in for a lie down, do you?

applesandpears33 · 22/08/2022 17:32

Not very inclusive is it? What about women who have been victims of sexual abuse, or who don't want to share toilets with men for religious reasons?

BlackForestCake · 22/08/2022 17:34

I think the people behind this spend so much time in an American internet bubble that it doesn't even cross their minds to translate "restroom" to "toilet".

That 'they know better than you' is just so condescending. And not necessarily correct either!

Quite. Nothing is more likely to make women spend a few pounds buying some resistance stickers, really.

Believers in this have no fucks to give, and will tell those females (not 'women', they will always know who are 'women' and who are the females to be really foul to) to reframe their trauma, get over it, care about male traumas and prioritise those over their own needs, abandon their faith, culture, family, beliefs etc because yucky and stupid, and just do what male people want them to or deal with that they can't have access to toilets any more.

It's not inclusive. The word 'inclusive' is merely thrown about in a childish attempt to manipulate away from the over ablism, racism, sexism, misogyny and downright bloody awful attitude towards others. It's appalling behaviour.

Btw don't just blindly believe me, go and check the evidence first hand for yourself. It's easy to find. This is not an echo chamber, I am bloody dying for someone to come up with evidence that this is not really happening to females and this political movement is not truly endorsing the exclusionary, ugly and female-loathing misogynistic mess that it's caused. Please bring on the evidence, bring it all on, I would dearly love to be wrong about this. Show me where there's any care at all or consideration or provision for these females who cannot use mixed sex spaces that parallels the care for male people's wishes, feelings and needs.

Helleofabore · 22/08/2022 21:43

Remember one of the universities published a list of things that would be considered micro aggressions and therefore were a sign of hate and phobia.

including moving away from the male in question. …

The fragility of these males is everything apparently. The needs of females is never important.

serendipitea · 22/08/2022 21:54

I've always worked in environments with mostly men - just as I assume the ATI is (I know many people who work there).

I remember going to the women's loo when I first started working at a lab and running into a guy coming out of the loo- and feeling so vulnerable and upset. I never felt comfortable going to the loo there after that episode. I used to go to another floor when I needed to use the toilet. Luckily I didn't stay in that lab long.

I can only imagine how the women at the Alan Turing must be feeling.

It really does come down to the good old 'everyone with a vagina is my mum' misogyny. No needs of her own, no life of her own, no existence of her own outside meeting baby's every need, that's all she's for. And if she doesn't do it right she's a Bad Mummy.

Helleofabore · 22/08/2022 22:07

Yep artichoke. They no longer try to hide it.

Artichokeleaves · 22/08/2022 22:08

Which by extension means until we get past the whole thing of one group get scolded about microaggressions and excluded and told the exclusion's their fault and they don't matter, and another group get head tilted sympathy and made everyone's priority? I won't be entering into any discussions about 'but you can't tell the difference'. Because bloody obviously everyone can. This is all binary sex based thinking, without any doubt at all what the hierarchy is and who belongs to which group. I have yet to see any TW or NB person accidentally screamed at for not mummying properly on demand.

WeeBisom · 22/08/2022 22:22

I heard a story recently where a man was jailed for indecent exposure. He was caught going into a female toilet at the local uni, and he was exposing himself and masturbating while young women were in the stalls. He was found with a professional looking sign which said 'unisex toilets', and he attached it to the door so that he would appear less suspicious. The judge condemned his pre-planning and maliciousness. So this dude, who was just a garden-variety predator (and who eventually escalated to exposing himself to young kids) knew damn well that if he took advantage of this zeitgeist he would get easier access to women and girls. He knew that his presence in a female only toilet would be questioned, but in a unisex toilet he would be granted much more leeway. He wasn't trans or confused about his gender. And yet according to this sign, if I saw this perv in the toilet it's "none of my business'? Are these people insane?

PeriodBro · 22/08/2022 22:36

You've got to wonder how, when, at what point, we are allowed to call an unclothed male in a space for females indecent exposure.
